Emails: Clinton aide arranged meeting with foundation donor
2016-08-23
[The Hill] The conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch on Monday released a trove of Hillary Clinton’s email exchanges, some of which the group says show high-dollar Clinton Foundation donors receiving special access to the former secretary of State.

In 2009, top Clinton aide Huma Abedin coordinated with Clinton Foundation executive Doug Band to arrange a meeting between Clinton and the Crown Prince Salman of Bahrain, which was requested by the crown prince.

"Cp of Bahrain in tomorrow to Friday[.] Asking to see her[.] Good friend of ours[,]" Band wrote to Abedin on June 23 of that year, a Tuesday.

Abedin replied several hours later that the crown prince had attempted to arrange the meeting through "normal channels," but that Clinton "said she doesn’t want to commit to anything for thurs or fri until she knows how she will feel."
A bit under the weather was she ?
She was drying out...
Two days later, Abedin reached out to Band and said: "Offering Bahrain cp 10 tomorrow for meeting woith [sic] hrc[.] If u see him, let him know[.] We have reached out thru official channels[.]"

Salman in 2005 established a scholarship program for the Clinton Global Initiative, committing more than $32 million by 2010, according to the Clinton Foundation website.

The exchange was part of 725 pages of State Department documents released by Judicial Watch on Monday, 20 of which the group said were not previously turned over to the State Department.

Long-serving Saudi oil minister replaced
2016-05-08
[AA.TR] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s long-serving oil minister was removed from his post Saturday, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Ali al-Naimi, 81, had been a leading opponent of lowering oil production in the face of falling prices.

He was replaced by Khalid Al-Falih, chairman of state oil company Saudi Aramco, the world's largest petroleum firm.

The removal of al-Naimi - who served as oil minister from 1995 - by royal decree came three weeks after an oil summit in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
where oil producing states agreed to freeze production levels to raise prices.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the deal collapsed when Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, an increasingly influential figure in Saudi politics, insisted the country would not cut oil output unless regional rival Iran did the same.

Oil prices have dropped sharply since mid-2014 due to a glut in supply, severely harming the budgets of oil-dependent countries such as Saudi Arabia, where oil accounts for around 80 percent of state revenue.

According to the decree, al-Naimi will become an advisor to the royal family with the rank of minister.

Prince Salman recently announced a plan to wean the kingdom off its oil dependency. The proposal includes selling Aramco shares to generate revenue for a $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund.

King Abdullah dead, Crown Prince Salmad new king of Saudi Arabia
2015-01-23
The Magic Kingdom gets a new King - farewell to the one pictured to the right...
The confirmation immediately following the announcement of the death of King Abdullah that Crown Prince Salman was to succeed him settled one question in the minds of many in the Middle East.
King Salmon, eh? Something fishy in all this...
There had been mutterings that the succession was not secure, and that on the death of King Abdullah, who had managed one of the world's most perplexing countries for two decades, anything could happen. The new King Salman then went one step further: he confirmed deputy Crown Prince Muqrin as his own Crown Prince and heir.

Prince Muqrin is seen as the closest to King Abdullah of all the surviving royal brothers who control Saudi politics. At a relatively youthful 69, he will presumably have some years left to him both as Crown Prince and then King to ensure that his mentor's legacy of gradual - very gradual - reform is honoured and even expanded upon.

Those questions are answered for now: many more mutterings remain. Despite its apparently monolithic politics, debate about Saudi Arabia's future is more widespread than it appears.
Speculation about impact on oil prices commences - hope you enjoyed the cheap gas while it lasted....

Bahrain Arrests Suspects Linked to Syria Extremists
2015-01-17
[AnNahar]. Bahraini authorities tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
suspects who have returned from Syria and are allegedly linked to "terrorist" groups, the interior ministry said Friday.

Bahrain, home to the U.S. Fifth Fleet, is among the countries that have joined the international coalition against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria and Iraq.

Bahrain's interior ministry announced that authorities have arrested "a group of people who were recently in Syria and are suspected of contacts with terrorist groups abroad."

It said that investigations were ongoing, without giving further details in the statement carried by the official BNA news agency.

The Syrian conflict "has attracted some Bahraini citizens," the interior ministry acknowledged in February last year.

But it did not clarify whether it was referring to Sunni Islamists or to Shiites accused of links to Leb's Hezbollah movement which has been fighting alongside Assad's troops.

Bahrain has been deeply divided since a 2011 uprising led by its Shiite majority against its Sunni monarchy, which brutally crushed the revolt.

Last month, the kingdom urged the international community to focus its efforts on combating the "evil theocracy" of jihadist groups such as the Islamic State.

"I call on you to discard the term 'war on terror' and focus on the real threat which is the rise of this evil theocracy," said Bahrain's crown prince, Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.

"We are fighting theocrats... We will be fighting these theocrats for a very long time," said the prince.

Referring to the jihadists' harsh and rigid interpretation of Islam, Prince Salman said: "The 17th century has no place in our modern 21st."

The head of WAMY's got a gray beard. Can they be sued for false advertising?
Announcing this, Saleh Al-Wohaiby, secretary general of the WAMY, told a presser here that WAMY conference is themed "Youth in Changing World."

"The theme for this edition of the conference stemmed from the fact that youth makes up about 60 percent of the population in Moslem countries, which is a great boon for all communities, but also puts pressure on service providers whether from government agencies or the private sector, especially education, health care and job market. Government and non-government organizations should give due care to them," he said.

"Also, choosing Marrakesh as a venue for our conference was not accidental, but rather part of the policy of conducting our big events in all the continents. This time it was the turn of Africa, and we saw the city most suitable for our event because it has the modern infrastructure and the capability to accommodate our event that will host participants from over 80 countries," he added.

"We have been warmly welcomed by Moroccan government to have our event there. The Embassy of Morocco in Riyadh played a big role in getting the matter progress smoothly," he added.

Al-Wohaiby highly lauded the support of Morocco in hosting the conference, noting that WAMY conferences always received very high level support in all the editions of its conference in all hosting locations over the years.

"For instance, the leaders of Soddy Arabia

King Abdullah: We shall not rest till we eradicate terrorism
2014-10-06
[ARABNEWS] King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on Sunday emphasized the importance of dialogue in combating extremism and promoting world peace. He also reiterated Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's determination to root out terrorism.

"Engaging in dialogue is the only method to live in peace and harmony with other communities in the world. The dialogue will eventually prevent bloodshed and avoid disunity, ignorance and extremism," the king said in his message to the guests of God who have to come for Haj this year.

King Abdullah stressed: "We shall not rest till we eradicate terrorism along with the misguided sect that has used Islam as bridge to achieve its vested interests and unlawfully stigmatizes the beauty of Islam with their misleading thought."

Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, read out the king's message during a reception in Mina, which was attended by Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, Bangladesh President Mohammad Abdul Hamid, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen and Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and representatives of foreign Haj missions.

In his keynote address, King Abdullah emphasized the Islamic teachings and values that urge Moslems to live in peace with other sects and faith communities. "It has been reported that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said while circumambulating the Holy Kaaba 'how pure and good you are! how pure and good your fragrance is! how great and exalted you are! And how great and exalted your sanctity is! But I swear by Allah that the sanctity of a believer's blood and property in sight of Allah is greater than your sanctity," the king said.

He noted the impact of the International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in Vienna, which is named after King Abdullah, saying its activities would contribute to eradicating terrorism and promoting a cultural dialogue in the world.

"We pray to Allah Almighty that dialogue will become a tool for debate and an essential approach of dealing between nations and peoples. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
we hereby declare that Saudi Arabia will continue its efforts in fighting terrorism and extremism."
