There is still that contingent of the GOP which says things like "let’s pin a diploma to every foreign graduate" and "we need more H1-B visas so talented foreigners can come to America."

Let’s revisit the case of Muhammad Masood, a Pakistani doctor, who came to America in 2018 to work as a researcher at the world-famous Mayo Clinic.

Masood was named a Mayo Bronze Quality Fellow and conducted clinic trials. Then he joined ISIS.

Now he’s going away for a long time, at taxpayer expense, where he can conduct research in prison.

A former Mayo Clinic research coordinator was sentenced Friday to 18 years in federal prison for attempting to provide material support to ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Masood’s attorney, Jordan Kushner, blamed his client’s action on mental illness. But Senior U.S. District Judge Paul A. Magnuson told Masood that not withstanding those issues, "First and foremost, you are sitting in this court as a convicted terrorist. That’s the way it is."

Magnuson noted that before his arrest, Masood had said: "I will kill or be killed."

While the thrust of the case involves Masood trying to join ISIS abroad, there were mentions of terrorist attacks in America.

Pakistani doctor jailed for 18 years in US for attempting to help Daesh

[GEO.TV] Muhammad Masood, a 31-year-old licensed Pak doctor, living in the United States on a work visa, was sentenced to 18 years in jail for attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization, ISIS.

"A Rochester man was sentenced today to 216 months in prison, equivalent to 18 years, followed by five years of supervised release for attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization," a blurb issued by the US Department of Justice stated.

The court documents showed that Masood was formerly employed as a research coordinator at a medical clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, under an H-1B visa.

As per the official statement, Masood's activity from January 2020 to March 2020 showed his attempts to become a part of the bully boy outfit and provide material support in carrying out terrorist acts in the US.

"Between January 2020 and March 2020, Masood used an encrypted messaging application to facilitate his travel overseas to join a terrorist organization," the statement added.

It further stated that the Pak man made multiple statements about his desire to join ISIS and also pledged his allegiance to the designated terrorist organization and its leader.

"Masood also expressed his desire to conduct 'lone wolf' terrorist attacks in the United States."

he was eventually arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) upon arrival at the airport.

Masood pleaded guilty last year on August 16 to attempting to provide material support to ISIS.

Senior Judge Paul A. Magnuson sentenced him to 18 years in prison on Friday, after the completion of investigations by the FBI's JTTF.

Pak legal fraternity threatens boycott on elevation of 1st woman SC judge

GREATERKASHMIR] Pakistain's legal fraternity has called on Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed to postpone Thursdays meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistain to consider the elevation of Justice Ayesha A. Malik of the Lahore High Court (LHC) to the apex court, Dawn news reported.In case the meeting is not called off, the Pakistain Bar Council (PBC) and all bar associations would boycott all court proceedings, from the superior judiciary to the lower courts.

This was announced by PBC Vice Chairman Khushdil Khan and PBC Executive Committee Chairman Muhammad Masood Chishti and others after a representative meeting on Monday.

Thursday's session of the JCP was summoned after the Chief Justice once again proposed the name of Justice Malik for elevation.

The last time this question came before the JCP on September 9, 2021, a lack of consensus during an extended meeting forced the commission to defer the appointment of Justice Malik, who is fourth in the seniority order of the LHC, to enter the Supreme Court

Former Mayo Clinic researcher indicted on terrorism charge after telling FBI informants he wanted to carry out attacks

[Washington Examiner] A former Mayo Clinic research coordinator has been charged for attempting to provide support to a terrorist group.

Muhammad Masood, 28, was indicted Friday after investigators said he told undercover informants that he planned to carry out terrorist attacks in the United States. The Pakistani doctor has been jailed since he was arrested in March at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, according to the New York Post. He was initially charged by criminal complaint at the time, and he has been in custody ever since.

The Mayo Clinic said Masood had worked there in the past, but at the time of his arrest, he was no longer employed by the medical center.

Investigators said Masood told informants he wanted to go to Syria to help the Islamic State. He allegedly said he wanted to carry out lone wolf attacks in the U.S. but decided to go to ISIS’s hub in Syria instead. Prosecutors said Masood was originally planning to travel to the war-torn country through Jordan but reassessed after the country shut down its borders because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"There is so much I wanted to do here ... lon wulf [sic] stuff you know ... but I realized I should be on the ground helping brothers sisters kids," he is accused of saying in a message to an informant.

Masood tried to travel from Minnesota to Los Angeles so that he could hitch a ride to Syria on a cargo ship, court documents show.

Pak Doctor on H-1B Visa Wanted to Attack U.S. for ISIS

They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....

Muhammad Masood, a 28-year-old Pak national, first arrived in the U.S. in February 2018 after he was able to secure an H-1B visa — the visa program whereby more than 100,000 foreign workers are brought to the U.S. every year and are allowed to stay for up to six years. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment.

Masood worked as an H-1B visa holder "research coordinator" at a medical clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

That’d be the Mayo Clinic, according to his previous appearance on these pages.

According to a criminal complaint by federal agents with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Masood repeatedly stated his wanting to commit terrorism on Americans for ISIS while in the U.S. on his H-1B visa.

"[Masood] indicated ... because he was currently in the United States, ’sometimes I want to attack [the] enemy when I am behind enemy [lines] itself’ because ’not many people [can] even reach here to attack,'" the criminal complaint states. "Discussing his travel to [commit jihad for ISIS], [Masood] noted that he will lose the chance to conduct an attack in the United States: ’I wonder if I will miss the opportunity of attacking the enemy when I was in the middle of it.'"

In another message through a messaging app, Masood said he had intended to attack Americans in the U.S. while on his H-1B visa but decided to make travel plans to fight for ISIS in Syria instead, according to federal agents.

"You know [brother] ... there is so much I wanted to do here ... [lone wolf] stuff you know... but I realized [I] should be on the ground helping brothers, sisters, kids inshAllah," Masood allegedly wrote in a message.

Pakistani doctor arrested in US for terrorism after pledging allegiance to ISIS

[Am Military News] A Pakistani doctor has been arrested in the U.S. state of Minnesota on a terrorism charge, after he told paid FBI informants that he had pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State extremist group and wanted to carry out lone wolf attacks in the United States, prosecutors say.

Muhammad Masood, 28, a former research coordinator at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, was arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on March 19 by FBI agents and was charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Prosecutors say Masood was in the United States on a work visa. They allege that starting in January, Masood made several statements to paid informants ‐ whom he believed were members of Islamic State ‐ pledging his allegiance to the group.

He also allegedly voiced his desire to travel to Syria to fight for IS and a desire to carry out lone wolf attacks in the United States.

Mayo Clinic spokeswoman Ginger Plumbo said Masood formerly worked at the medical center but "was not employed by Mayo Clinic at the time of his arrest."

Court issues non-bailable arrest warrants for eight cops

[NATION.PK] LAHORE - A sessions court on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for eight personnel of Nawab Town Police Station for killing a lawyer’s son in an alleged encounter three years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Munsif Khan passed the order while hearing a private complaint moved by Advocate Muhammad Masood Akhtar. The judge issued non-bailable arrest warrant after the accused repeatedly ignored the court orders for appearance. Masood Akhtar, father of deceased Ihtesham Masood, had moved a private complaint to the court imploring that Naseerabad SHO/SI Khalid Pervez, Nawab Town SHO/SI Imran Qamar, Nawab Town SI Naveed Aslam, Inspector Sajjad Rasheed, Constable Muhammad Azam, Muhammad Javed, Muhammad Riaz and driver Abdul Ghafoor kidnapped his son from outside the sessions court and took him to an unknown place. He said that accused SHO Imran Qamar, SHO Khalid Pervez, Inspector Sajjad Rasheed and others killed his son Ihtesham Masood. The body of his son, he said, was later found in Jinnah Hospital’s mortuary. He said that police potted his son and ruined their lives. He asked the court to take action against the accused for killing his son. The court adjourned the hearing until June 11. Islampura police booked the police officials on charges of murder.

He accused India and the US of planning to hit Pakistain's nuclear programme. Giving a free hand to American CIA with regard to drone attacks in Pakistain was a part of this planning, Saeed alleged.

"If the US is serious and sincere in eliminating terrorism in the region, it should immediately initiate drone attacks on training centres of thug Hindu terrorist organizations," he said.

He questioned the US leadership for not imposing a ban on Indian terrorist groups and singling out Pakistain in this regard.

The JuD head accused the Indian army of being also involved in terrorist activities in Pakistain.

He said it had been proved that the Indian terrorist groups were also involved in dozens of terrorist activities in Balochistan

He urged the government to take up the issue of torching Samjhota Express at the UN Security Council, adding the Pakistain should also seek handover of the culprits involved in the tragedy.

Policeman killed, five others injured in Lahore attacks

A police constable was killed and at least five other policemen, including a station house officer and a sub-inspector, were injured in suspected terrorist attacks outside two police stations in the Punjab metropolis, police and witnesses said on Friday.

Police officials told Daily Times that SHO Rizwan Latif, Sub-Inspector Abdul Razzaq and constable Muhammad Aamir, who is a driver of a police vehicle, were injured when a low-intensity timed-device, fixed inside the vehicle, exploded outside the Lytton Road police station.

They said that another police vehicle was also hit by a timed-device blast near the police station, but no one was injured because the vehicle was empty at that time.

Separately, two gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle outside the Gulshan Ravi police station, where Muhammad Saleem, driver of the police vehicle, as well as constables Muhammad Naseer and Muhammad Masood received bullet injuries. All the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, where Muhammad Saleem succumbed to his injuries.

No one can separate Islam and Pakistan: General Kayani

PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Pakistan was achieved in the name of Islam and the religion can never be expelled from the country.

Addressing a gathering at Police Line Peshawar here, the COAS said that no one can separate Islam from Pakistan as the country was achieved in its name. He said that Pakistan Army will succeed in its bid to root out extremism from the country in cooperation with the nation and the media.

Announcing Rs 20 million for the martyrs of NWFP Police, Gen. Kayani said that the all kinds of needed weapons and ammunitions would be provided to police to make its progress better.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General was received by Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam at Peshawar Airport when he arrived here on a day-long visit on Wednesday.

He will also visited Lady Reading Hospital to express solidarity with the bomb blast victims.

The Army Chief is schedule to meet Governor NWFP Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, tribal elders and students later in the day.

US will assist Pakistan in curbing militancy, says Holbrooke

US Special Representative on Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke met military and civilian leaders on Wednesday to discuss operations against Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the Tribal Areas, and pledged 'all out US assistance' to help Pakistan maintain law and order in NWFP. He was also flown over Bajaur Agency, Darra Adam Khel and Khyber Agency for an aerial view of the areas, said officials. Holbrooke separately called on Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Muhammad Masood Aslam and NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani to discuss the situation in the Tribal Areas, the officials told Daily Times. His assurance to help Pakistan rein in the Taliban came at his meeting with Ghani. US embassy spokesman Lou Fintor declined to give details of Holbrooke's meetings. The envoy also visited Landikotal, and later flew to Lahore.

'Swat operation to continue until objectives achieved'

The NWFP administration on Monday resolved that the Swat operation "will continue until all the objectives are achieved". This was decided during a high-level meeting chaired by NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and attended by Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti and Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Muhammad Masood Aslam. According to an official communiqué, " It was re-affirmed that no effort would be spared to protect the life and property of peaceful citizens." Meanwhile, Taliban in Swat kidnapped six people from the Malam Jabba area and moved them to an undisclosed location, locals said on Monday.
