Israeli forces kill Palestinian in West Bank raid
2023-05-30
[An Nahar] Israeli forces killed a Paleostinian man Monday in the occupied West Bank, the Paleostinian health ministry announced, as the Israeli military said forces were in a firefight during a raid.

Ashraf Mohammed Ibrahim, 37, was "shot by the Israeli occupation" in the northern city of Jenin, the ministry said.

Ibrahim was an officer in the Paleostinian intelligence service, according to the official Paleostinian news agency Wafa.

The Israeli military said "suspects fired heavily at the forces, who responded with fire toward the gunnies" during a raid in Jenin.

"In addition, suspects hurled bombs at the forces," added the army statement.

Six people were arrested in Jenin, according to Paleostinian prisoners' advocacy groups.

The Times of Israel reports the Israel perspective at 7:35 p.m. ET
Army says troops came under ‘massive gunfire’ in overnight op, vehicles damaged by bombs; fatality was member of Al-Aqsa brigade terror group; 6 detained elsewhere in West Bank

A Paleostinian man was killed and at least seven were maimed during a raid by the Israeli military on the northern West Bank city of Jenin early Monday, according to Paleostinian health officials.

The Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry said 37-year-old Ashraf Muhammad Amin Ibrahim was fatally shot in the abdomen and chest by Israeli troops during the raid. Earlier, the official Paleostinian news agency Wafa said eight people were maimed, including one seriously, during the raid on several neighborhoods in the city.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that no suspects were arrested in Jenin, but that several weapon parts and other military equipment were seized.

The IDF said that troops came under "massive gunfire" in the city, and armed Paleostinians hurled improvised bombs, causing damage to several military vehicles.

Troops returned fire at the Paleostinian button men, hitting several of them, the IDF said.

Paleostinian media later circulated a graphic and carried a statement by the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade claiming Ibrahim was a member of the terror group as well as an intelligence officer in the Paleostinian Authority security forces.

The military said it was aware of a Paleostinian being maimed by an IED that was hurled toward troops in the northern West Bank city.

A short clip circulated by Paleostinian media outlets showed an bomb detonating near an Israeli military vehicle in Jenin.

The IDF said that troops detained six wanted Paleostinians in other areas of the West Bank during overnight raids.

The raid came hours after a Paleostinian man was shot and moderately maimed after allegedly placing an IED on a highway in the central West Bank on Sunday night.

Earlier on Sunday, the local wing of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

SC orders demolition of Karachi's Nasla Tower within a week
2021-10-26
[DAWN] The Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
(SC) directed the Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
commissioner on Monday to demolish Nasla Tower, a 15-storey residential building located at the intersection of Sharae Faisal and Shahrah-e-Quaideen, through "controlled blasting" within a week and submit a report.

The matter was taken up by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistain (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed, at the SC's Karachi registry, where the city commissioner appeared before the court.

The court further instructed the commissioner to ensure that no harm was caused to other buildings and persons in Nasla Tower's vicinity because of the blast.

It also directed the builder of Nasla Tower to refund money to registered buyers of the residential and commercial units, adding that the city commissioner should ensure that the refunds were made.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case until Tuesday (tomorrow).

A three-judge SC bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistain Gulzar Ahmed, had initially ordered the demolition of the 15-storey building for encroaching on the land meant for a service road on June 16.

Issuing a detailed order for the same on June 19, the court had also directed the builders of Nasla Tower to refund the amount to the registered buyers of residential and commercial units within three months.

The court had said in its judgement that "After examining the entire record and scrutinizing the reports submitted by all concerned agencies and departments, we are in no manner of doubt that the tower in question (Nasla Tower) has indeed been constructed on encroached land which amongst other things has also blocked a service road."

"Being illegal construction and there being no provision for compounding such illegality specially where a service road has been blocked, the same is liable to be demolished," it had added.

The apex court had also directed the Karachi commissioner to remove all persons from the building and take its possession immediately and initiate and complete the demolition process as expeditiously as possible and submit a report in court.

Later, the builder of Nasla Tower had filed a review petition against the June 16 order, which was dismissed by the apex court last month.

Subsequently, the district administration served notices to the residents of Nasla Tower earlier this month, directing them to vacate the 15-storey building by October 27 or face coercive action by relevant authorities.

Saeed’s plea against detention deferred

against his detention to wait for a decision on the matter by a provincial review board.

As Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmad resumed hearing, a deputy attorney general stated that a provincial review board comprising judges of the high court was scheduled to take up the detention matter of Mr Saeed on Nov 21. He said the court should adjourn hearing of the petition till a decision of the review board was out. The judge accepted the request and deferred the hearing till Nov 22.

The provincial review board had on Oct 18 approved one-month extension in detention of Hafiz Saeed while accepting an application of the government. However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the board had rejected the application regarding four other leaders of the organization, including Qazi Kashif Niaz, Prof Zafar Iqbal, Abdul Rehman Abid and Abdullah Obaid, and released them.

The provincial government had detained the JuD leaders under Maintenance of Pubic Order as recommended by the federal government.

Against the detention, JuD’s counsel A.K. Dogar contended that government detained Saeed on apprehensions and hearsay. He said an order of preventive detention had to satisfy the requirements laid down by the Supreme Court in its many judgements, but in the instant case sheer violation of laws had been committed by the government. He said imprisonment without trial and conviction was prima facie unlawful and unconstitutional.

7 men to be hanged in Sialkot lynching case
2015-04-02
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday issued death warrants for seven individuals convicted for being part of the mob that lynched two brothers in Sialkot in 2010.

The warrants were issued by the ATC after the Lahore High Court rejected appeals submitted by the seven convicts Ali Raza alias Peter, Muhammad Iqbal, Jameel alias Jeela, Shafeeq alias Foji, Sarfraz Ahmad, Rashid and Muhammad Amin.

The court also set the date of their hanging for April 8. However,

the convicts have the right to appeal in the Supreme Court.

In August 2010, dozens of people clubbed to death Hafiz Mohammad Mughees Sajjad, 18, and Mohammad Muneeb Sajjad, 15, in the presence of eight coppers and also allegedly of former district police chief Waqar Chauhan. The bodies were later hung upside down at a chowk.

The incident sparked shock and horror across the country as cellphone footage of the heinous murders was uploaded to video-sharing sites and caused a viral stir.

Justice (retd) Kazim Malik who investigated the case had said in his report in 2010 that the boys were not robbers or hardened criminals and not a single case of mobile phone snatching or robbery was ever reported against them.

A local ATC in 2011 had sentenced the seven of the convicts to death on four counts, gave life-term on four counts to six of them and jugged

The court had acquitted five co-accused on grounds of insufficient evidence.

ATC judge Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmad had sentenced to death the seven convicts on four counts under section 302 of the PPC and 7ATA. They were also fined Rs500,000 each.

Kabul Residents Concerned Over Rocket Attacks
2014-10-28
[Tolo News] For the last three nights, three rockets have landed in Wazir Muhammad Akbar Khan and Shash Darak areas of Kabul, resulting in the death of a civilian.

One rocket was fired on Friday night, targeting Wazir Akbar Khan area of the capital. Two other attacks took place on Sunday night few hundred meters from the Presidential Palace at Kart-e-Ariana.

Kabul residents accuse security institutions of carelessness in maintaining the capital's security.

"If security forces cannot even maintain security of Kabul, then they will not be able to maintain security of provinces," Kabul resident Muhammad Amin said.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reported that they have locked away
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
one person in regard to the accident, but has not provided details about where the rockets were fired from.

"Further investigations are underway," MoI front man Sediq Sediqqi said.

Analysts claim that a main reason behind the insecurity is the government's vague policy toward the Taliban.

"The president must have a clear definition of enemy; not having a clear definition of enemies of Afghanistan will empower the Taliban," military analyst Saleh Muhammad Regestani said.

This is while during his first week at office, President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
had ordered the country's security institutions to take a new strategy in maintaining the capital's security.

"Security forces need to take serious preparations for security of the capital and it's surrounding areas," the president had stressed.

The insecurities in Kabul are as a part of the growing insecurities all around the country in the past few months.
