has expressed his wish to see defiant PTI as part of the ongoing "reconciliation".

Addressing a joint presser flanked by former leadership of the Pakistain Democratic Movement (PDM), including PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-Q’s Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and other leaders, Zardari said: "Everyone will have to be united on the economic agenda in the larger interest of the country."

The development comes hours after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, during a presser in the federal capital, announced pulling out of the candidacy for the prime minister's post stating his party would back PML-N's candidate for the country's chief executive.

The veteran politician's convoy was fired upon from multiple sides at Yarik interchange, the party said, but also added that fortunately, the JUI-F emir was not present in the vehicles at the time.

Fazl has been constantly calling on the interim government and the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) to ensure the law and order situation and also stressed that it wasn’t the right time to be holding the polls.

"The incident yesterday [Sunday] raises questions on the security situatiuon," the former parliamentarian told a presser in DI Khan on Monday, adding, "It won’t be a big issue If elections are delayed for a few days."

JI announces no-trust motion against PPP's Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab

[GEO.TV] Moments after the City Council approved a resolution allowing the K-Electric to collect Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) charges from the citizens through their monthly power bills, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Monday announced tabling a no-confidence motion against Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

Expressing his disappointment over the attitude of the first Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) mayor of the port city, Rehman blasted the ruling party over the acute water crisis in the city, grabbing the mayor slot vial alleged rigging and not tabling the budget in the house.

Addressing the council's session, the JI leader said that the elected representatives were helpless to address the water-related issues of the public. He said that the solid waste department should be handed over to the local government.

has hinted at joining the race for the coveted slot of prime minister.In an interview with a private news channel on Monday, the "king of reconciliation" said: "I can be a candidate for prime ministership and Bilawal too. Even Khursheed Shah can be the candidate."

Without unveiling the name of PPP’s candidate for the top slot, the former president said: "Time will tell who will be the candidate."

All political parties are gearing up for the general elections set to take place across the country on February 8, 2024, with some expressing fears that the security situation is still not feasible to stage them.

Responding to a question, Zardari claimed he made Shehbaz Sharif premier, adding that he arranged the required numbers to get him elected as the chief executive of the country.

has agreed to play a leading role in national reconciliation, The News has learnt.

According to sources, Fazl, who also heads the multi-party alliance Pakistain Democratic Movement (PDM), has supported the idea of playing a role in political dialogue among key stakeholders at the suggestion of former senator Muhammad Ali Durrani.

Durrani called on the PDM chief at his residence in Islamabad on Tuesday and the meeting lasted for two hours.

When contacted, Durrani told The News that PDM chief had agreed to play a leading role in national reconciliation. "Fazl is a national leader who can bring about national reconciliation," he said.

According to sources, Fazl will discuss the agenda of reconciliation with the national leadership in the coming days. In the first phase, efforts will be made to create a consensus on the national agenda for reconciliation among the political parties.

It may be mentioned here the PTI has already agreed to the agenda of national reconciliation while former prime minister Nawaz Sharif

according to a blurb issued by the Central Media Cell of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam, former federal information minister Muhammad Ali Durrani met JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and offered condolences on the death of his mother-in-law.

In the meeting, the country’s political situation, upcoming elections and other issues were discussed.

Earlier this month, President Arif Alvi called for ending "bitterness" to pave the way for "cooperation and forgiveness" among the stakeholders in a meeting with Durrani.

Durrani held a third meeting in one month with President Alvi which is part of his efforts to reduce political temperature in the country.

Urging free, fair, transparent, and inclusive elections, President Alvi emphasised that all political parties and their leadership should be given equal opportunities to participate in the election process to strengthen democracy in the country.

The president was of the view that there was a dire need for political, institutional and stakeholder unity in the country to battle the difficulties on all possible fronts, including that of economy.

BOMBING IN PAKISTAN KILLS AT LEAST 40, 150 WOUNDED – The bomb was detonated at a rally for a hard-line cleric and political leaders in the Bajur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday. The convention was organized for Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his party, Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI). Rehman is thought to be allied with the TTP and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Police say that a suicide bomber likely infiltrated the gathering and successfully bypassed the JUI party’s security personnel. JUI party officials were quick to point the finger at other political groups and said the bombing was an attempt to keep JUI candidates out of the November elections. No group has yet claimed credit for the attack but a source in Islamabad said it was almost certainly an ISIS operation and authorities believed the bomber had slipped across the border from Afghanistan. Based on preliminary reports from medical personnel, the death toll is expected to rise in the coming hours and days.

US SPECIAL INSPECTOR GENERAL FOR AFGHANISTAN RECONSTRUCTION ISSUES WARNING TO TALIBAN – In a recent report from the US SIGAR, the funds on reserve in Switzerland could be withheld should the Taliban continue to interfere in the central bank’s operations. As the Taliban have rejected the former constitution, there are currently no laws that govern the banking infrastructure in the country. The current governor and deputy governor of the central bank are Taliban leaders, possess no banking experience, and are reputedly not the smartest people in any room. The US’s position is firm, there can be no political interference in the banking system but there are rumors the Taliban intend to vacate the banking laws and will try to replace them with a hybridized Sharia-based system that some other countries claim to have adopted. Most observers believe the loss of these funds would cause a collapse of the Afghan economy.

MINISTRY OF MARTYRS AND DISABLED SAYS IT IS FINALLY READY TO PROVIDE COMPENSATION FOR THE DISABLED, ORPHANS, AND WIDOWS – After delaying the support payments for nearly two years, the Ministry says it will provide a back pay allowance of six months to those who have been verified on the lists in the Ministry. There are concerns that employees of the former government have had their names struck off the list and there are also rumors that many Taliban officials have created some ‘Ghost Disabled’. The term refers to people who do not actually exist but whose benefits are sent to accounts owned by corrupt officials. A few select NGOs are waiting to see how the disbursements are paid and are concerned that minorities and women may be left out.

"I have not accepted the results and will not. I have not even acknowledged the results of this fake government. Congratulations to the workers and voters. What will be the course of action on this shameless fraud, the party will decide soon, God willing," Maryam tweeted.

"PML-N has fought a very good election, has fought hard. It is not easy to deal with all the centers of state and power and fraud. I would like to commend all the voters and workers of PML-N for their courage and bravery. I am very proud of them," she said in a subsequent tweet.

on Wednesday accepted the resignations of Pakistain People’s Party (PPP) and Awami National Party
founded by Abdul Wali Khan in 1986. Part of the PPP-led cabinet 2008-13. The ANP is considered left wing, advocating for secularism, democratic socialism, public sector government, and economic egalitarianism....
(ANP) from all posts of the opposition alliance, a private TV channel reported.

The PDM chief, while reshuffling the PDM ranks, also approved the appointment of Hafiz Hamdullah as information secretary. Earlier, ANP’s Mian Iftikhar held the post.

On Monday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had once again urged the PPP and the ANP to reconsider their decision to resign from all posts of the alliance. "I urge them to reconsider the situation, and if they have committed a mistake, they should accept it [...] as these are the tenets of democracy," Fazl had said while addressing a presser flanked by other PDM leaders.

On April 12, the PPP had announced that the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) had called upon its members to resign from all positions of the PDM, while leaders of the ANP had withdrawn from the alliance after show-cause notices were issued to the party to explain their actions during the recently held Senate polls.

The presser had come after the opposition alliance met in the day to deliberate over its anti-government strategy. However,

PPP and ANP were not invited to the steering committee meeting.
