665 militant attacks reported in KP since June 2022: police

[Dawn] The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have said 665 Death Eater attacks, including 15 suicide kabooms, were reported in the province between June 18, 2022, and June 18, 2023.

They also reported 382 gun attacks, 107 grenade blasts, 145 IED explosions, 15 rocket and missile hits, and two vehicle-borne IED attacks in the province during that period.

According to the list of ’Motive Wise Terrorism Incidents’ compiled by the provincial police, 140 Death Eater activities, including eight suicide kaboom

district reported 56 acts of militancy, including 19 gun, 25 grenade, eight IED, and two suicide and rocket attacks each.

The document revealed that 55 Death Eater activities took place in Bajaur tribal district and they included 21 gun, four grenade and 30 IED attacks, while South Waziristan tribal district recorded 49 such attacks, including 33 gun, 13 IED and one rocket one.

It said snuffies carried out 48 attacks in Khyber and Lakki Marwat district each.

The list revealed that 30 gun and 11 IED attacks were reported in Khyber, while 19 and six grenade explosions occurred in Lakki Marwat and Khyber respectively.

According to it, Tank district recorded 39 acts of militancy and 29 of them were gun attacks, seven IED and two grenade attacks, and one suicide blast.

Bannu district reported 38 such Death Eater acts during the period and they included one suicide blast and 22 gun, three rocket, five grenade and seven IED attacks.

2 terrorists killed in gun battle with security forces in North Waziristan’s Dossali: ISPR

[Dawn] Two bad boyz were potted by security forces during an intelligence-based operation in the general area of North Wazoo’s Dossali, the military’s media affairs wing said on Wednesday.

According to a blurb issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on the reported presence of snuffies in the area.

"During the operation, an intense fire exchange occurred between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the killing of two terrorists," it said.

The ISPR said weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain snuffies who were "actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and the killing of innocent citizens".

It added that sanitisation of the area was under way to eliminate other snuffies in the area.

Army soldier, CTD official martyred in KP in exchange of fire with militants

[Dawn] A Pakistain Army soldier and a Counter-Terrorism Department constable embraced martyrdom in exchange of fire with holy warriors in North Wazoo

Wazoo and Mardan districts on Friday, ISPR and police officials said.

"An exchange of fire took place between holy warriors and the security forces in Mirali area of North Waziristan. During intense exchange of fire, Sepoy Irshadullah, 29, a resident of Karak district, embraced martyrdom," a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.

The statement said sanitisation of the area was being carried out to eliminate any holy warriors found there.

a CTD constable was martyred and a wanted bully boy was killed in an exchange of fire in Mardan on Friday.

Police said a CTD team raided a mosque located in Seri Behlol locality after receiving information about the presence of a wanted bully boy there.

The bully boy, who was identified as Maulana Jawad, opened fire on the CTD officials, causing serious injuries to constable Usman Shah. In retaliatory firing by the injured constable, the bully boy also sustained critical wounds.

The officials said the injured constable embraced martyrdom while being shifted to a hospital. The bully boy also died on the way to the hospital.

The CTD lodged an FIR against the bully boy and his family members and launched an investigation.

14 ‘militants’ held in operation on Swabi mountain

[Dawn] The police arrested 14 suspected bully boyz during an operation conducted on the Karamar Mountain here on Tuesday.

District police officer Najamul Husnain told mediapersons that drone technology was used to locate the movement of suspected persons on the mountain. He said since surge in murderous Moslem activities in the district the police had kept the Karamar Mountain under tight watch.

He said personnel of Elite Force, Rapid Response Force, bomb disposal squad, police’s security branch and lady constables participated in the operation. He said the mountain stood at the junction of Buner and Mardan districts.

Mardan District is in Mardan Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, so our militants are probably TTP.

He said often criminals took refuge on the mountain as it was a secluded place, which was locally known as Ster Baba.

DPO Husnain said it was the first time that drone was used for acquiring information about the suspects hiding in the mountain.

He said criminals won’t be allowed to take refuge on the Karamar Mountain.

In a separate development, two proclaimed offenders were arrested during an action on Tuesday.

Pilot safe as 3rd PAF trainer aircraft crashes in less than two months

Didn’t Pakistan once have female pilots? Perhaps they would be better served letting the girls take over.

[DAWN] A Pakistain Air Force (PAF) trainer aircraft crashed on Wednesday while on a routine training mission near Takht Bhai in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Mardan district, the PAF said in a statement.

A spokesperson for the PAF added that the pilot ejected safely before the crash

"A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of [the] accident," the blurb said.

This is the third PAF training aircraft to have crashed while on a routine training mission in less than two months.

Women-only bus service to hit roads on Thursday

Another source told Dawn that launch of Abbottabad bus service was also in the process and was likely to be finalised by the end of the current month.

The source said that the launch of the project in the Mardan district would be a milestone towards facilitating the female population, which lacked decent transportation facilities.

A DSNG engineer belonging to the 24 News channel, Shariq Ishtiaq, sustained bullet wounds when unknown people resorted to firing outside the residence of Pak skipper Sarfraz Ahmad in the Buffer Zone area.

SSP Central Muqaddas Haider confirmed the firing incident and added that engineer was initially taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later referred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali told Dawn that Shariq sustained wounds on his head but his condition was stable.

Dr Jamali further said that 15-year-old Husain Raza was also brought to the hospital from Model Colony with a bullet wound on his abdomen. His condition was said to be serious.

Dr Jamali later said one of the victims had succumbed to injuries.

Two other persons, identified as Faraz, 22, from Lines Area and Sardar Sultan, 30, from Orangi Town were also brought with bullet wounds for treatment at JPMC.

A top police official told Dawn that the police would conduct raids to arrest the suspects involved in jubilation firing. He said spent bullet casings were being collected and information being taken from witnesses to ascertain the identity of the culprits involved in firing incidents in different parts of the city.

Clash between political parties in Mardan leaves four dead, five injured

[GEO.TV] At least four people were killed and five others injured when workers of two political parties clashed in Mardan on Friday, Geo News reported.

Faisala Shahzad, District Police Officer (DPO) Mardan, said exchange of fire ensued after an altercation between activists of two political parties in Hoti area of Mardan district.

ASI killed, constable injured in Mardan raid

PESHAWAR: One police official was killed and another injured during a raid in the Sajan area of Mardan district on Wednesday morning, District Police Officer Faisal Shahzad said.

Police were conducting a raid on the house of a wanted individual, Imran, when they were ambushed, police said, but the suspect, Imran, was hiding in a nearby house belonging to Bakhtaj.

During an exchange of fire with the suspects, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sultan Mehmood was killed and Constable Shoaib injured.

Constable Shoaib was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Mardan for treatment, and both suspects were arrested during the raid, police said.

Elderly couple shot dead in Mardan

2014-09-29

[DAWN] MARDAN: A man allegedly killed his father-in-law and mother-in-law over a woman dispute in Takhtbai tehsil of Mardan district on Saturday, police said.

Takhtbai cop shoppe SHO Kamran Khan told Dawn that the alleged killer barged into the house of the victims in Mazdoorabad area and rubbed out the elderly couple after exchanging hot words with them. The slain couple hailed from Dir district, who had recently settled down in the area. The slain man was also the uncle of the suspected killer.

According to the the preliminary police investigation, the SHO said that the suspect had got married some years back, but later his wife had allegedly eloped with another person of Bashkhali locality of Mardan district.

Woman set ablaze by husband, locked up for three days

[Dawn] A woman suffered severe burns when her husband allegedly set her ablaze by throwing petrol on her at her house in Mardan district of northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

, her family said Wednesday.

Shahida, who is currently fighting for her life at a hospital in Chakwal district of Punjab province, said her husband Taseer Khan sprinkled petrol on her and set her on fire after a minor domestic dispute.

The burn victim, in her mid-twenties, said she was locked up in a room and was not allowed medical treatment for three days after the incident.

The girl's family said she received medical attention only after they rescued her from her husband's house and took her to a hospital in Chakwal, where she is now being treated.

Shahida suffered severe burn injuries on her face while her entire body was badly charred.

Murad, a brother of the ill-fated girl, said that about 90 per cent of her body had been burnt and her condition was "very serious". The family also claimed the victim was also pregnant at the time of the alleged incident and that she suffered a miscarriage after she was badly beaten up by her husband.

When contacted, officers at the Mardan Cantt Police station said they have taken Taseer Khan under custody after registering an attempted murder case against the accused.

The police said they had initiated further investigation into the case.a

PHC bans open sale of acid in KP

High Court on Wednesday banned the open sale of acid, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan, heard the case pertaining to an acid attack.

Justice Khan remarked that acid was being used as a form of weapon, adding that women were being targeted with it.

He moreover said that leaders legislate day in and out for their own interests, but do not implement court orders.

Earlier in June, a young Pashto actress Bushra had suffered critical burn injuries after a local TV drama producer allegedly threw acid on her while she was asleep in her home, her family members had claimed.

In year 2012, 150 acid attack cases were registered in Pakistain, 30 of which were reported from KP's Mardan district alone.

According to the Islamabad-based NGO, Acid Survivors Foundation, the data shows an upward trend in this form of violence targeting women. Some 45 per cent of the acid attacks are the result of family feuds while 17 per cent are linked to refusals to marriage proposals.

Moreover, a report by the Aurat Foundation released in January 2013 said that although the total number of reported cases of violence against women had decreased by 12 per cent, a deeper analysis showed a significant 89 per cent increase in cases of acid-throwing, followed by a 62 per cent rise in domestic violence.
