Turkey launches fresh airstrikes in Iraq as Erdogan renews threats for offensive
2024-05-07
[al-Monitor] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
launched new Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against the positions of Kurdish turbans in northern Iraq, the Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry said on Monday, as Ankara ramps up its threats of a fresh military operation in the region.

The Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry said 16 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed in the strikes conducted in the northern Iraqi regions of Hakurk, Metina and Gara.

Headquartered in Iraqi Kurdistan, the PKK has been fighting for Kurdish self-rule inside Turkey since 1984 and is considered a terror organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
A video shared on the ministry’s X account showed an F-16 fighter jet taking off from an unspecified airbase then hitting several targets in the region.

Turkey’s counterterrorism operations are "continuing at an increasing pace," Defense Minister Yasar Guler said in an address to the Ottoman Turkish army’s top brass on Monday.

The fresh strikes came as Ankara renewed its threats of a large-scale military offensive in the region. "It is not possible for us to feel safe as long as the PKK finds a breathing space in Iraq and Syria," Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Xanadu Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Pleasure Dome Palace decree. It has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
said later on Monday in a televised speech after a cabinet meeting in Ankara. "We will deliver the final blow to the separatist organization, whose maneuver room is shrinking."

Turkey also accuses the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the main ally of the US-led anti ISIS coalition in Syria, of having ties with the PKK.

Guler also issued a similar warning last week when he criticized an Iraqi Kurdish political party, as well as Iran, for what he described as their lack of action against the Kurdish hard boys.

He said the PKK "moves, operates and trains its fighters freely" in the northern Iraqi province of Sulaimaniyah, which borders Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
and is under the control of the Kurdish Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

He added that the PKK turbans were forced to retreat toward the southern parts of Iraqi Kurdistan by Ottoman Turkish military operations in the region, but that the Iraqi side was failing to take any action to counter them. "Thus, we have to do whatever is necessary, and we will do it," Guler said during a televised interview.

Turkey, which maintains more than a hundred military outposts in northern Iraq, accuses the PUK — one of the two dominant political parties in Iraqi Kurdistan — of cooperating with the PKK.

Turkey has kept its airspace closed for flights to and from the international Sulaimaniyah airport since April in a bid to increase pressure on the PUK, which is headed by Bafel Talabani, the son of late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

The Iraqi central government designated the PKK as a banned

organization
last month but stopped short of declaring it a "terrorist organization" — a long-sought demand by Ankara. Guler said the coordination between Ankara and Baghdad has increased since the move.

Turkey arrests German MP for social media posts

[NPASyria] A German official of Kurdish heritage said on Sunday that she was arrested for hours when she traveled to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
in early August for social media posts she made in 2019.

Gökay Akbulut, 40, is a member of the German parliament for the far-left Die Linke party.

Rooters reported, citing Akbulut as saying, that she was arrested in Antalya Province on allegations of "terror propaganda."

Akbulut previously criticized the Ottoman Turkish government on her official website for "waging a brutal war against the Kurdish population inside and outside its borders."

Ottoman Turkish authorities released Akbulut shortly after she contacted the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is not clear for which social media posts she was arrested. However she added that she would still travel to Turkey and express her opinion about the Ottoman Turkish government.

Akbulut has previously demanded to lift the ban imposed on the activities of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in 1993. The PKK has been in the EU list of terrorist organizations since 2022.

In recent years the relations between Germany and Turkey witnessed tension due to German criticism of the policies of Erdogan’s government abroad and at home.

Turkey always suppresses those who express their opinions that go against the Ottoman Turkish government.

In April, the Ottoman Turkish authorities carried out raids and arrested at least three Kurdish journalists, accusing them of having ties to the PKK.

In May, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) called on the Ottoman Turkish authorities to stop using the courts to muzzle opposition media outlets.

PKK attacks Turkish soldiers in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok, killing six
2023-08-11
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish defence ministry on Thursday announced that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) carried out attacks against its soldiers in the Kurdistan Region in the last two days, killing six members of the Ottoman Turkish army.

The ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the PKK opened fire on Ottoman Turkish soldiers in Duhok province, killing two and injuring three others who later shuffled off the mortal coil. One of them was a commander.

In a separate attack on Thursday, the PKK killed another soldier in the same area, according to the ministry which claimed that it "neutralised" four PKK fighters in a retaliatory attack.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
uses the term "neutralised" to denote that the person in question is captured, maimed or killed.

In April last year, Turkey launched Operation Claw-Lock with the goal of targeting PKK positions in Metina, Zap, Avashin, and Basyan areas in northern Duhok province. The operation, according to Ankara, aims to remove the PKK from the bordering areas and cut off its access to mainland Turkey.

Turkey says both deadly attacks took place in Operation Claw-Lock region.

PKK on Wednesday claimed it had killed 12 Ottoman Turkish soldiers in Zap region, which is covered by the operation, but it is not clear if it was referring to the same attacks in which Ankara says killed six soldiers.

Turkish drone attacks in Syria complicated anti-ISIS mission – Coalition
2023-08-08
[NPASyria] The US-led Coalition said on Monday, in its quarterly report, that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s continued drone attacks in Syria complicated the coalition’s mission of countering the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

In addition to Turkey, the Coalition statement said that Iran, the Syrian government and Russia also played a role in making the Coalition’s mission more challenging.

"Third party forces operating in Iraq and Syria—particularly Iran, Turkey, Russia, and the Syrian regime—complicated the progress of the OIR mission," the report said.

OIR is the US military’s operational name for the international military coalition’s intervention against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, which started in August 2016.

As for Turkey, it "conducted ongoing unmanned aerial system (UAS) strikes targeting SDF [Syrian Democratic Forces] leaders, claiming they were affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK)."

On Thursday, a Ottoman Turkish drone hit two vehicles near the Ali Faro Road in western Qamishli, northeastern Syria, killing four SDF fighters who had fought against ISIS for years.

The Coalition’s statement added, "Russia continued to violate deconfliction protocols it has agreed to with the U.S. military, mostly by conducting flights over U.S. forces in Syria."

Russia recently made several "unprofessional" encounters with US drones in Syrian airspace. On July 26, the White House reported that a Russian fighter jet fired flares and hit a US drone in Syrian airspace.

"Iran-aligned militias conducted limited, ineffective attacks on U.S. and Coalition forces in Syria during the quarter," the report said.

The Coalition said that its forces "continued to train SDF and Internal Security Forces (Asayish) to provide security at detention facilities."

SDF-held prisons in northeast Syria house more than 10,000 ISIS fighters. As for the Hawl detention camp, it holds more than 50,000 individuals of the family members of ISIS fighters.

In Iraq, the report said, "Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Kurdish Security Forces (KSF) made no notable gains in counter-ISIS capability." However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
there was more ISF-KSF coordination than before in terms of countering ISIS.

Regarding developments against the Islamic State, the Coalition noted that "ISIS capabilities remained degraded in Iraq and Syria during the quarter. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
the group continued to pose a threat and its violent mostly peaceful ideology remained unconstrained."

Speaking about the mission’s overall goal, the Coalition said "there was limited progress toward U.S. goals to improve security, governance, promote economic growth, and address humanitarian crises in Iraq and Syria."

Turkish forces bombard Mount Metina in Duhok province
2023-06-25
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish warplanes on Saturday bombarded Mount Metina in Duhok province without causing casualties, a villager told Rudaw.

Fayeq Balavayi from Balava village said he saw Ottoman Turkish air forces bombarding the nearby Mount Metina at noon, adding that the bombardment continued for hours.

No civilians were harmed because the targeted area is banned from civilians due to frequent festivities between Ottoman Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) there.

but it is listed as a terrorist group by Ankara.

Turkey has recently upped its attacks against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region. It has also intensified its targeting of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria due to their alleged ties with the PKK.

Baghdad has repeatedly condemned Turkey’s violations of its borders and called on gangs not to use Iraqi territory to attack neighbouring nations. Civilians are frequently caught in the crossfire between Ottoman Turkish forces and the PKK and hundreds of villages have been emptied with families moving in search of safety.

PKK announced a unilateral ceasefire in February due to devastating quakes in Turkey and later extended it to include the Ottoman Turkish elections period. The group ended the truce earlier this month.
It’s a day ending in -day, so the odds were good.

's warplanes reportedly bombed sites of the anti-Ankara Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the north of the Kurdistan region's governorate of Duhok on Wednesday.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that "the Ottoman Turkish offensive primarily targeted the vicinity of the Skeiri village on the slopes of the mount Matin in the Amadiyah district, which lies in the northern reaches of Dohuk."

It was not immediately clear what damages or casualties have resulted from the attack, the source said.

There has been a long-running Ottoman Turkish campaign in Iraq and Syria against bandidos holy warriors of the PKK and the Syrian Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG) militia, which are both designated as terrorist groups by Ankara.

Turkey regularly carries out air strikes into northern Iraq and has sent commandos to support its offensives.

In April, the Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry summoned the Iraqi charge d'affaires after Baghdad accused Ankara of violating its illusory sovereignty and called on it to withdraw its forces from Iraqi territory.

PKK-affiliated force says Turkish drone killed a member in Shingal

[Rudaw] An gang affiliated to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) announced on Wednesday that one of its members was killed in a Ottoman Turkish drone attack in Shingal district. This comes two days after two PKK-affiliated commanders were killed in a similar assault in the town.

Ezidkhan Asayish, a security force affiliated to the PKK, said in a statement on Wednesday that a Ottoman Turkish drone hit one of its vehicles in the Yazidi heartland of Shingal, killing one of its members, Sherzad Shamo Qassim.

The aerial attack took place at 11:30am local time, according to the statement, reported by PKK media.

Erbil-based Kurdish counterterrorism forces said Qassim was the head of the Ezidkhan Asayish, adding that one of his guards was killed in the attack as well.

The Shingal Resistance® Units (YBS), which is also affiliated to the PKK, on Monday announced that two of its commanders were killed in a Ottoman Turkish drone attack in Shingal while going to a wake, adding that a fighter was injured too.

. Ankara has listed it as a terrorist group. The All-Yazidi YBS and Ezidkhan Asayish were formed by the PKK after ISIS controlled Shingal and killed and kidnapped thousands of Yazidis. They control parts of Shingal.

Turkey considers both Yazidi groups as offshoots of the PKK and has targeted their positions in Shingal numerous times, killing dozens of their members, including top commanders.

The presence of PKK-affiliated groups and several other forces in the district has been blamed for insecurity which has prevented thousands of its residents, who fled Shingal in 2014 due to ISIS war, from returning.

There have been no comments from Turkey regarding both attacks in Shingal.
Shafaq News adds:
On Wednesday, airstrikes struck the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the Sinjar district of Nineveh Governorate. Two security sources told Shafaq News Agency.

A source reported that Turkish drones targeted a vehicle carrying PKK members near the Sinjar police station, killing all fighters, including a prominent leader.
