US court approves extradition of 26/11 attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India
2023-05-19
[OneIndia] A US court has approved the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian businessman of Pak descent, to India where he is sought for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Ten terrorists laid siege to the city and kept many hostage in various hotels and a Chabad House before killing 166, including the rabbi, his wife, and several of their children. The siege lasted nearly 60 hours before the police gunned down the terrorists. The lone surviving terrorist, Ajmal Kasab sang like a canary, was found guilty and subsequently hanged a few years later at a jail in Pune.
Rana was arrested in the US on an extradition request by India for his role in these attacks in which 10 Pak gunnies laid a more than 60-hour siege, attacking and killing over 160 people, including six Americans, at iconic and vital locations of Mumbai. The US court consented to the Indian request, through the US Government for his extradition.

"The Court has reviewed and considered all of the documents submitted in support of and in opposition to the Request and has considered the arguments presented at the hearing," US Magistrate Judge of the US District Court of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Judge Jacqueline Chooljian, said in a 48-page court order dated May 16, which was released Wednesday.

Not just Manipal – Muslim students across India are deluged by hate in their classrooms
2022-12-17
Seeing the mote in India’s eye while ignoring the beam in Pakistan’s.
[Dawn] Moslems students say they face hate inside the classroom, both from peers and, even more troublingly, from teachers.

Last week when the video of a Moslem student confronting his teacher at Manipal University in Karnataka went viral, it triggered an unpleasant memory in the mind of 21-year-old Humza Siddique.

In the video, which sparked a massive uproar on social media, a young engineering student berates his teacher, telling him that it was not funny to crack jokes about his religious identity. The teacher had compared his Moslem student to Ajmal Kasab, the Pak terrorist who had attacked Mumbai in 2008.

Udaipur murder: 2 more arrested for conspiracy in connection with tailor's murder while knifemen questioned
2022-07-02
[OneIndia] Two persons were arrested from here on Thursday night for conspiring the brutal beheading of a tailor, a senior police official said.

Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was killed Tuesday afternoon by two cleaver-wielding men, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who posted a grisly video of the crime online claiming responsibility for the beheading . Both the accused were arrested in Rajsamand hours after the crime.

Two persons have been arrested. They were co-conspirator of the murder of Kanhaiya and they are being interrogated, the official said on Friday.

The arrested accused were identified as Mohsin and Asif.

The case is being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA) with support of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police.

Udaipur murder accused duo sent to 14 days judicial custody
[GreaterKashmir] A Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Thursday sent Riaz Akhtari and Ghaus Mohammed, the two prime accused who killed a tailor Kanhaiya Lal, to 14 days judicial custody.

Both the accused were produced before the special court amid tight security. The court after hearing the contention sent them to judicial custody.

The sources in the agency said that they received crucial input that both can be attacked by different organizations and hence they decided to produce them before Udaipur court.

"There are many more involved in the incident. It was a larger conspiracy which was executed in a well planned manner. The people who are involved in this are yet to be caught. And we don’t want any untoward incident, as we have input that accused might be attacked, hence we have postponed the plan to take them to Delhi," said the source.

The source said that both had been keeping an eye on the accused for a long time.

2611- The bike number of the terrorists who killed Hindu tailor in Udaipur
[OneIndia] The cycle of violence used for escape by the killers of an Udaipur tailor had "2611" as its registration number, a possible reference to the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

Serial terror attacks in Mumbai took place on November 26 and referred to as 26/11 in general. Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad had fled after brutally hacking tailor Kanhaiya Lal to death in Udaipur on June 28.

Akhtari had paid Rs 1000 to obtain the number of his choice for the cycle of violence which he had bought in March 2013, officials said. The accused were caught in the Bhim area by the Rajsamand police hours after the incident. "The registration number of the bike on which they were fleeing was RJ 27 AS 2611.

The cycle of violence was handed over to the SIT for further action," SHO of Bhim cop shoppe said. Udaipur RTO Prabhu Lal Bamniya said the cycle of violence was issued in the name of Riaz Akhtari and a fee of Rs 1,000 was paid for securing the number in March 2013.

On November 26, 2008, 10 Pak Death Eaters arrived at Mumbai by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately at people, killing 166, including 18 security personnel. Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive. He was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.

Cancellation of Lakhvi’s bail in Mumbai attacks case sought
2019-04-10
[DAWN] A division bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday summoned the record of Mumbai attacks case proceedings pending before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in two weeks.

The division bench sought the record while hearing an appeal filed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) seeking cancellation of the post-arrest bail of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi
...an asset of the Pak govt and a big turban in Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is actually a redundant statement. Zak was the criminal mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai attack. Despite what India's provided there is not enough evidence in this world for a Pak court to convict him or even to keep him in the calaboose for very long...
, the alleged criminal mastermind of the attacks.

An ATC in Islamabad had on Dec 18, 2014, granted the post-arrest bail to Lakhvi.

In the appeal against the ATC judge’s order, the FIA said: "The fact remains that such like cases of defunct terrorist organizations are not so easy to be conducted and especially the prosecution in such cases is the most difficult job in our country for the last many years."

It added: "In the present case, the learned trial judge (of ATC) after the terrorist attack in Islamabad courts (of March 2013) refused to visit Adiala Jail for a long time due to security reasons.

"Even the prosecutors of this case have been receiving threats through cell phones during the proceedings which were duly conveyed to the concerned authorities. The witnesses are also not secured, and reluctant to depose against the accused persons in the given situation."

The appeal pointed out that the confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
by Indian authorities after the Mumbai attacks, was still part of the evidence and it was at no stage discarded and that statement clearly established Lakhvi’s link to Mumbai attacks.

The prosecution claimed that it had sufficient evidence against Lakhvi and requested the court to cancel his bail.

The counsel for the accused person argued before the court that the prosecution was not pursuing the case.

He said some witnesses in the case were Pak nationals and some were foreign citizens. The local witnesses are not appearing to testify and the ATC had issued their perpetual warrants for arrest.

, for allegedly providing financial assistance to the LeT men to carry out the deadly assault in 2008.

"The FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) has arrested Sufyan Zafar recently and is interrogating him for his role in providing financial assistance to the accused of the Mumbai attack - who are lodged in the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi," FIA special prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar told PTI on Friday.

He said Zafar was absconding after being declared proclaimed offender in the Mumbai case.

A resident of Gujrawala district of Punjab, some 80km from Lahore, Zafar is among 21 other absconding suspects wanted in this high-profile case.

"Zafar will be indicted in the Mumbai case after completion of the investigation," the FIA official said. A Pak anti-terrorism court has charged seven Lashkar-e-Taiba

The case has been underway in the country for more than six years.

Lakhvi, the criminal mastermind of the Mumbai attack, is living at some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location after getting released from jail on bail over a year ago.

The other six suspects are in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

The trial proceedings have come to a halt as India is yet to send 24 witnesses to Pakistain for recording of their statements in the trial court. Pakistain says the trial cannot be concluded unless India sends its nationals for recording their statements in the case.

As many as 166 people were killed and over 250 injured in the attack carried out by 10 LeT men.

Nine assailants were killed while the lone survivor, Ajmal Kasab, was captured and later executed.

All you need to know about militant Naved aka Usman, who was captured in Udhampur
2015-08-07
That would be India. It must already be a couple of days after the Pakistanis fired wildly over the border to cover the latest infiltration.
[FIRSTPOST] A krazed killer involved in an ambush on a BSF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Wednesday has been captured, authorities said. Initially there was confusion over the name of the krazed killer. The terrorist told the Sherlocks that his name was Mohammed Naved. But in a video shot minutes after he was handed over to the police, he called himself "Usman." Earlier TV channels reported that his name is Qasim Khan.

According to initial reports, Usman aka Naved was caught with a AK-47 rifle. The attacker came from Faisalabad

, Pakistain last week, intelligence sources said. A top police officer said that preliminary questioning has revealed that Usman, aged 16-18 years, is from Faisalabad in Pakistain and he told police that he had recently infiltrated from across the border to carry out terror attacks here.

operative.

"Its fun doing this," Naved, the suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba krazed killer from Pakistain who was caught alive after the attack on the BSF convoy that killed two constables, revealed casually to cameras.

Naved, who says he hails from Faisalabad in Pakistain, claimed before the media that he entered the Jammu region 12 days ago along with a fellow terrorist identified as Momin Khan. Khan was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF.

This is the first suspected Pak terrorist to be captured alive after Ajmal Kasab, who was nabbed during the dreaded terror attack in Mumbai in 2008.

"I came to kill Hindus," said Naved, dressed in a dark blue shirt and brown trousers, with a relaxed demeanour. He also alleged that Kashmiris were being killed all the time.

"It has been 12 days since I came here. We walked all days in the jungle," he said as villagers clicked pictures with the prize catch.

"I am from Pakistain and my partner was killed in the firing but I escaped. Had I been killed, it would have been Allah's doing. There is fun in doing this," Naved said.
Opium and marijuana grow wild in that part of the world. Perhaps he chewed on some to stay hunger pangs after he lost his supplies in the affray.
Initially, he said that he was in his early 20s but later claimed that he was only 16. He had been changing his statements. First he identified himself as Kasim and later as Usman.

Two gunnies had attacked a Border Security Force convoy on Wednesday morning killing two troopers and injuring 11. One of the attackers was rubbed out in retaliatory fire. The other attacker then fled to a nearby village where they took three people hostage in a school.

The krazed killer was locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
after an operation was launched by the army and the police, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary said.

The freed hostages later said to ANI they overpowered the krazed killer and brought him down.

"As I came out of my house after hearing gun shot, this krazed killer came and asked me to come with him. He had already taken three-four people along," Rakesh Kumar, a youth who was taken hostage said.

"We were taken at gunpoint to the school. He asked us to show us the route to escape from the area," another hostage, Vikramjeet said.

The krazed killer threatened them that if they didn't show him the route, he would kill their family, he said, adding that they also offered him some food.

While the other three, Desraj, Subash Sharma and Jeeven, managed to escape, Vikramjeet and Rakesh fought with the krazed killer and caught him after a tough struggle.

"I caught his neck and he (Rakesh) caught hold of the gun. He (the krazed killer) fired a few round but we escaped narrowly and caught him," Vikramjeet said.

the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today took over the case.

They said that Naved had undergone training in two different modules with Lashker-e-Taiba terror group, as per PTI.

A team of NIA, a central probe agency created after the 2008 Mumbai attack, headed by Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh, has been camping in Jammu since yesterday and has visited the site of the encounter, official sources said.

Lashker-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammed Naved Yakub, who has claimed that he hailed from Faislabad in Pakistain.

His accomplice, identified by him as Noman alias Momin, was killed in retaliatory firing by BSF.

Naved, who remained composed during the night-long interrogation, told sleuths that he had undergone two training modules--'Daur-e-Aam' and 'Daura-e-Khas' - of Lashker-e-Taiba terror group.

While the first module teaches the terror cadre of physical fitness, mountaineering and using of small arms, in the second they are trained in assault rifles and manufacture of small explosives.

In his early 20s, Naved disclosed that he had entered into India through Baramulla in North Kashmire area by cutting the fencing. During interrogation, he said that he had stayed at Tangmarg and Baba Reshi and shifted their base to Awantipura-Pulwama in South Kashmire where he remained inside a cave located on a hill side.

The group split into two and he along with Noman moved to Kulgam in South Kashmire from where they boarded a truck to Jammu yesterday. They got down at Udhampur after staying at Patnitop for night.

I am the unfortunate father of Udhampur attacker, says Pakistan-based man
2015-08-07
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] Ripping apart Islamabad's lie once again, a Pakistain-based man has claimed that the captured myrmidon in Udhampur, the second such since Ajmal Kasab was nabbed during the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, is his son.

A daily on Thursday reported to have talked to the attacker's father.

Notably, Pakistain has asked New Delhi to provide proof of any Pak found involved in terrorist activity on Indian soil.

In the meantime, Hindustan Times have spoken to a Pakistain-based man who claimed to be the "unfortunate father" of the myrmidon, whose name is said to be Mohammad Naved alias Usman Khan.

"I'll be killed. The Lashkar is after us and the fauj is after us," Mohammad Yakub told the daily over phone.

"You are calling from India. We'll be killed. I am the unfortunate father," said Yakub.

Yakub added, "The Lashkar is after us. They probably wanted him dead and not caught alive. Please spare him."

Usman was captured on Wednesday shortly after he and a fellow myrmidon rubbed out two Border Security Force troopers on the highway near Samruli, about 10 km from Udhampur town. The other terrorist was killed in the firing, but Usman was nabbed alive.

Upon arrest, Naved told interrogators that he came from Pakistain to "kill Hindus" and that "it's fun doing this".

He has also told his interrogators that he belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba

Udhampur terror attack: NIA takes over probe, Pakistani terrorist quizzed
2015-08-07
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] In the Udhampur attack, two heavily-armed turbans believed to be from Pakistain ambushed a convoy of BSF personnel and opened fire in which two constables and a murderous Moslem were killed while another terrorist was caught alive in a manner identical to the nabbing of 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab.

NIA takes over probe

A team of NIA, a central probe agency created after the 2008 Mumbai attack, headed by Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh, has been camping in Jammu since yesterday and has visited the site of the encounter, official sources said, as per PTI.

LeT terrorist Mohammed Naved Yakub, who has claimed that he hailed from Faislabad in Pakistain.

India condemns attack:

On the other hand, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament today, "We strongly condemn the attack and the persistent attempts by turbans from across the border to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmire", as per IANS.

Rajnath Singh added that government was committed to combating terrorism with a strong resolve.

India is expected to take up strongly with Islamabad the terror attacks at Udhampur and earlier in Gurdaspur in Punjab, which left seven people dead, when the National Security Advisers of India and Pakistain meet as scheduled later this month.

Pakistain in denial mode

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
Pakistain was today in denial mode over assertions from India that the terrorist caught alive in Udhampur yesterday was a Pak national and asked New Delhi not to make "accusations" without proof.

Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said at his weekly briefing that he had seen media reports that "a person has been arrested in India and is being projected as Pakistain national".

"I will not comment on media reports. We expect Indian authorities to share necessary information about him with us to enable verification of his national status," Khalilullah said reacting to statements from India on the Pak origins of Mohammed Naved Yakub.

"We have said many times that making immediate accusations on Pakistain is not correct. These things should be based on facts. We expect that whenever Pakistain is being accused of something, it shall be accompanied by concrete evidence," he added.

Lakhvi living comfortable 'detention' life in jail: BBC report
2015-03-02
[DAWN] According to a report published by BBC Urdu on Sunday, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi -- the prime suspect and alleged criminal mastermind in the Mumbai attacks of 2008 -- is living a life of comfort while being held in detention at Adiala Jail.

After a long drawn legal battle post-Mumbai attacks, Lakhvi had been granted bail by an Anti-terrorism court that was trying him, a day after the horrific Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

The ill-timed decision was met with outrage from the international community, especially India.

He was then detained by the government under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.

Fast forward to today however, and, according to the BBC report, his detention remains highly unorthodox and suspect.

"He [Lakhvi] can receive any number of guests, any time of the day or night, seven days a week," a jail official told BBC.

It was further alleged in the report that inside his jail cell, Lakhvi enjoys the use of a television, mobile phone and internet access. Moreover, none of his visitors have to identify themselves to jail officials.

FIA files appeal against Lakhvi's bail
2015-01-05
[DAWN] The Federal Investig-ation Agency (FIA) filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged criminal mastermind of Mumbai attacks.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had on Dec 18 granted post-arrest bail to Lakhvi. The same day the federal government ordered his detention under the Maintenance of Public Order. When the IHC suspended on Dec 29 the detention order, Lakhvi was retossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in an over six-and-a-half-year-old kidnapping case.

In the appeal filed by the FIA against the ATC judge?s order of granting bail to Lakhvi, the prosecution said, ?The fact remains that such like cases of defunct terrorist organizations are not so easy to be conducted and especially the prosecution in such cases is the most difficult job in our country for the last many years?.

It said, ?In the present case, the learned trial judge (of ATC) after the terrorist attack in Islamabad courts (of March 2013) refused to visit Adiala Jail for a long time due to security reasons.

?Even the prosecutors of this case have been receiving threats through cell phones during the proceedings which were duly conveyed to the concerned authorities. The witnesses are also not secured, and reluctant to depose against the accused persons in the given situation.?

The prosecution claimed that a major part of the evidence had been recorded and the rest would not take more than three months to record and therefore the observation of the ATC?s judge that the trial may take years to conclude was not correct.

According to the appeal, the trial has not been delayed because of the prosecution but multiple applications filed by the defence counsel hampered progress of the case. The prosecution had moved several applications for an expeditious trial but the court did not `properly examine? these facts, it said.

The appeal pointed out that the confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested by Indian authorities after Mumbai attacks, was still part of the evidence and it was at no stage discarded and that statement clearly established Lakhvi?s link to Mumbai attacks.

The prosecution claimed that it had sufficient evidence against Lakhvi and requested the court to cancel his bail.

The complainant, Mohammad Khalid Qureshi, additional director general of the FIA, has cited Lakhvi as respondent.

A division bench of the IHC would hear the appeal next week.
