Pompeo’s book reveals facts about former Afghan president, saying he was a thief
2023-01-28
[KhaamaPress] Mike Pompeo’s new book, Never Give An Inch, released on Tuesday, reveals certain facts about Afghanistan’s former Afghan President, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, ex-president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. When Biden abandoned the country left with a helicopter, four cars, and part of the national treasury...
and the previous administration in Afghanistan during his time as secretary of state and the reasons for the collapse of the entire political system in the country.

Pompeo, who served under President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
as the 70th United States secretary of state, had much to say about Afghanistan’s former president, Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
. He mentioned that "both led cartels that stole millions of dollars in aid money from the United States."

He added that one of the main reasons for collapsing the entire political system was the high level of corruption and the "crooked system of patronage in the country."

He stated that, in his opinion, "low-level corruption secured a measure of stability" and prevented the country from collapsing.

On the other hand, Zalmay Khalilzan, whom President Donald Trump appointed as the US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation, stated in a series of tweets that "president Ghani felt he could ignore clear messages from Pompeo, myself and other US officials while had great connections with members of congress, retired generals, and lobbyists."

He further said that this was a tragic mistake by former president Ghani: "These connections led him (Ghani) to believe the US would maintain a robust military presence in Afghanistan, despite what both administrations told him regarding American withdrawal."

Ghani, however, believed that any agreement between the US and the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
would "throw him out of power, which was probably true, so he spearheaded a tremendous campaign to disrupt our negotiations," according to Pompeo.

He noted that the two met in Kabul on one occasion when Ghani refused "to negotiate in good faith.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the 2019 peace deal has been severely criticized by experts who argue that it did not lead to sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan but rather than it was a face-saving device for the Trump administration to bring back US troops from Afghanistan.

Desecration of Late Commander of Resistance Front's Tombstone Sparks Reactions
2022-11-06
[KHAAMAPRESS] The desecration and vandalism of the tombstone of the late resistance front commander, Ahmad Shah Massoud, in his mausoleum, in the northern Afghan province of Panjshir, caused a stir once again and infuriated the people.

The former government’s Supreme Council for National Reconciliation head, Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
, responded angrily to the vandalism of Ahmad Shah Massoud’s gravestone by describing the offenders as "villainous and irresponsible."

Pictures that have been made public reveal that the recently restored headstone of the late resistance front leader has once more been desecrated and broken, with pieces scattered all over the place.

The tombstone of the resistance front commander has previously been disrespectfully and hatefully destroyed by Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
government fighters. Videos of Taliban dancing and stomping in Ahmad Shah Massoud’s tomb have been circulated throughout the past year.

In response to the outrage and protests of the public, the Taliban restructured Massoud’s mausoleum, but recent reports indicate that the tomb has once more been damaged.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a front man for the Taliban government, claimed on Saturday, November 5, that Taliban forces were not responsible for destroying Ahmad Shah Massoud’s tombstone. He dismissed the claims and stated that the rumors of the Taliban members desecrating the tombstone is untrue.

Thomas West Meets Afghan Politicians, Civil Society in Istanbul
2022-06-01
[ToloNews] The US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, held separate meetings with a number of Afghan figures including politicians, journalists and women activists in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
Some of the politicians who met with West said that overcoming the current Afghan crisis and the formation of an inclusive government were the main focus of the talks.

"The proposal of the High Council of Resistance® and Rescue of Afghanistan and politicians was to continue the Doha negotiation, reach a political path, an interim government, and an election," said Iqbal Safi, a former member of the parliament.
Negotiate with whom, exactly? The Taliban have already taken over, set up their “interim” government, and have no plans for an election.
The Islamic Emirate said the commission of "Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures," will address the concerns of Afghans abroad.

"The Commission of Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures was established for this purpose, to consider the problems of those who have concerns and compel them to return to the country," said Bilal Karimi, deputy front man for the Islamic Emirate.

The US special envoy has yet to make any comment about the meetings with the Afghan politicians, journalists and women's rights activists.

Earlier, West said he met with the chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...

The question was asked the other day about where Dr. Abdullah Abdullah might currently be found. This appears to be the answer.
Muhammad Mohaqiq, leader of the People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan said on Facebook that West had met with the representatives of political parties and members of the Resistance® Council.

The council was formed several days ago by the Afghan political parties that are in Turkey.

"This is a strong signal to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
... that there should be an inclusive government that can represent the reality of Afghanistan," said Sayed Javad Sijadi, an international affairs analyst.

Politicians Call for Probe into Alleged Torture of Civilians
2022-05-15
[ToloNews] Afghan politicians called for an investigation into the alleged reports of torture and mistreatment of civilians in the provinces of Panjshir, Baghlan and Takhar.

The influential politicians who voiced concerns over the claims of civilian mistreatment are former chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
, former Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, Karim Khalili the former Vice President of Afghanistan and the leader of Hezb-e-Wahdat, Abdul Rasheed Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
, leader of Hizb-e-Junbish and Muhammad Mohaqiq, People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the Islamic Emirate denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
of civilian casualties in these provinces.

"The recent reports from Afghanistan speak of painful incidents in Panjshir, Takhar, and Andarab (of Baghlan) and Khost, that the military has conducted desert trials and tortured civilians. We call on the international community and the human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
organizations to launch a neutral investigation into these incidents and share the results with the people of Afghanistan," Abdullah said in a series of tweets.

Analysts said that the issue should be taken seriously.

"The government should not ignore it and should prevent it. It is important that (acting Minister of Foreign Affairs) Amir Khan Muttaqi and Mohammad Alam Izdyar restart the negotiations," said Torek Farhadi, a political analyst.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
a number of US based Afghans held protests in reaction to the alleged reports of civilian’s casualties in Panjshir, Baghlan and Takhar provinces.

"The Islamic Emirate conducted clearing operations against the people who were causing insecurity. Hundreds of them have surrendered and their weapons and ammunitions were seized by the Islamic Emirate. The civilians have a normal life. We seriously deny the reports and propaganda being spread in this regard," said Bilal Karimi, deputy front man for the Islamic Emirate.

The UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett said it was "essential for international human rights and humanitarian law to be upheld" and that they are "watching closely."

Report: Israeli Commandos Ransacked Hizbullah Depots in Lebanon
2022-02-22
[AnNahar] Israel has recently carried out sabotage and espionage operations that targeted sensitive Hizbullah posts inside Lebanese territory, a media report said.
*Snicker* They see you when you’re sleeping,
They know when you’re awake,
They know if you’ve been bad or good...
Interestingly, this story showed up in the Beirut website, but not The Times of Israel.
Israeli elite commandos managed to “destroy secret facilities inside these posts and to seize important information related to Hizbullah’s arms program, various sites and the means of communication between its combat units,” Kuwaiti newspaper al-Rai has quoted U.S. diplomatic sources as saying.

“Over the past months, Israeli elite forces conducted operations in various areas of Lebanon and entered into Hizbullah posts. These forces left messages to Hizbullah asking it to dismantle what is present in the manufacturing plants,” the sources added.
One can only imagine what they said.
“At other posts, they left sabotage marks on the contents of the sites,
“Ari was here”
while at other points they managed to obtain very precious information that exposed a lot of capabilities; means of communication and manufacturing; and other intel that is very valuable for the Israeli intelligence,” the sources said.
“For a good time call Hezbollah Joe 555-1212”
Hizbullah meanwhile managed to capture a man who was spying for Israel and had met with Israeli officers in various places in the world, al-Rai reported.
His name is Abdullah Abdullah ibn Mohammed Mahmud, but they call him George.
The spy informed the Israelis of the locations of important and secret Hizbullah and Iranian sites in Syria, the newspaper added.

Ghani’s Fleeing Ruined Last-Minute Handover Deal: Karzai
2021-12-16
All arranged beforehand.
[ToloNews] Former president Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai

in an interview with the News Agency that Dare Not be Named published on Wednesday said ex-president Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, ex-president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. i capital.

Karzai said that on August 15 rumors had spread in the city that the Taliban was entering the city. The Taliban had already arrived at the gates of Kabul. He communicated with Doha, and the Taliban leaders said that no forces will enter the city before an agreement is reached, adding that security forces should remain in their positions.

"The government should stay in its positions and should not move, that they have no intention to enter the city and, I and others spoke to various officials and assurances were given to us that, yes, that was the case, that the Americans and the government forces were holding firm to the places (and) that Kabul would not fall," Karzai said.

According to Karzai, in the afternoon when Ghani left Kabul, all the security forces, including the Kabul police chief, had gone. "There was no official present at all in the capital, no police chief, no corps commander, no other units. They had all left," Karzai said.

Ghani’s fleeing from the country, according to Karzai, ruined the last-minute deal that would have led to a peaceful power transition. "Absolutely. Absolutely. That is what we were preparing for, what we were hoping (along) with the chairman of the peace council to go to Doha that evening, or the next morning, and to finalize the agreement. And I believe the Taliban leaders were also waiting for us in Doha for the same ... objective, for the same purpose," Karzai said.

Karzai said that as the power vacuum was created in Kabul, he invited the Taliban to enter the city to prevent chaos and the possible looting of people’s property by some elements.

"It was a request to come in and protect the population, so that the country, the city doesn't fall into chaos and the unwanted elements who would probably loot the country, loot shops, so it was an automatic process subsequent to that and an inevitability."

Russia, Pakistan, China, US working together to ensure Taliban’s pledges implemented, recognition not on the table

[KhaamaPress] Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia, Pakistain, China, and the United States are in sync to ensure that the Taliban

abide by the promises they have made.
How?
The Taliban has promised to be respecting human and women’s rights, will not allow extremism in Afghanistan and will establish an all-inclusive government.
Subject to their understanding of Sharia law, which permits none of these things, including any obligation to keep promises made to unbelievers, including those Muslims who do not abide by the Talib takfiri code..

in Kabul after their visit to Doha.

Lavrov said that the caretaker government announced by the Taliban does not reflect the whole Afghan society and added that they are in contact with the Taliban in this regard.
“Hey, guys? You promised to do all the things on this list.”
“Yes, yes, kafir man. But we are still making the transition — it’ll take months and a great deal of money before we have everything organized enough to think about such things. It would go faster if we had more money, though...”
Sergey Lavrov in his UN General Assembly speech also accused the US of hasty decision over its pullout from Afghanistan as there is a large amount of weapons remain which can pose a serious threat.
Only a threat in the hands of those who understand how to use them. Otherwise they’re just future bazaar items,

Lavrov Says Taliban Recognition 'Not on the Table'

[ToloNews] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that international recognition of the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
was not currently under consideration.

Lavrov was speaking on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders in New York for the U.N. General Assembly. His comments come after the Taliban nominated a U.N. envoy, setting up a showdown over Afghanistan's seat at the world body.

"The question of international recognition of the Taliban at the present juncture is not on the table," Lavrov told a news conference.

Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Monday nominated their Doha-based front man Suhail Shaheen as Afghanistan's U.N. ambassador.

Ghulam Isaczai, the current U.N. ambassador who represents the Afghan government ousted by the Taliban, has also asked to renew his U.N. accreditation.

Russia is a member of a nine-member U.N credentials committee - along with China and the United States - which will deal with the competing claims on Afghanistan's U.N. seat later this year.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
has said that the Taliban's desire for international recognition is the only leverage other countries have to press for inclusive government and respect for rights, particularly for women, in Afghanistan.

Taliban Claims 'All Districts' in Panjshir, Fighting in Center
[ToloNews] As the fighting continues in Panjshir, the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
on Sunday said they have captured all districts of Panjshir province but the fighting is ongoing at the provincial center.

The Resistance® Front, however, rejects the Taliban’s claim, saying they have retaken Paryan district from Taliban forces.

Both Taliban forces and the Resistance® Front are claiming to have the upper hand on the battlefield.

Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the Taliban’s Cultural Commission, said on Sunday that Taliban forces have captured all districts of Panjshir.

"The Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate are actively present in all areas and districts of Panjshir. All the areas are under the control of the Mujahideen. They only faced resistance in Bazarak in the center of Panjshir," he said.

Taliban forces posted a video on social media saying they have taken heavy equipment used by the Resistance® Front.

"We have taken several cannons of the enemy," said Mawlawi Sakhidad Majmar, a Taliban commander.

The Resistance® Front front man, Fahim Dashti,
however, rejected the Taliban’s claim of taking Panjshir districts, saying that the resistance forces have retaken Paryan district from the Taliban.

Dashti in a tweet said that the Taliban has suffered casualties in the fighting.

"Panjshir’s Paryan has been completely cleared of Taliban. At least, '1,000 terrorists' were stuck as their entrance and exit ways were closed. All the aggressors were arrested or killed by the local people with support from the resistance forces while they were fleeing. A big number of those arrested are foreigners and most of them are specifically Paks," Dashti tweeted.
Al Ahram adds:
The Italian aid agency Emergency said Taliban forces had reached the Panjshir village of Anabah, where they run a surgical centre.

"Many people have fled from local villages in recent days," Emergency said in a statement Saturday, adding it was continuing to provide medical services and treating a "small number of wounded".

Anabah lies some 25 kilometres (15 miles) north inside the 115-kilometre-long valley, but unconfirmed reports suggested the Taliban had seized other areas too.

Bill Roggio, managing editor of the US-based Long War Journal, said Sunday that while there was still a "fog of war" with unconfirmed reports the Taliban had captured multiple districts "it looks bad".

Both sides claim to have inflicted heavy losses on the other.

"The Taliban army has been hardened with 20 years of war, and make no mistake, the Taliban trained an army," Roggio tweeted Sunday, adding that "the odds were long" for the Panjshir resistance.
Confirmation of one fact from The Times of Israel:
Fahim Dashti, the spokesman for the group that is fighting the Taliban, was killed in a battle on Sunday, according to the group’s Twitter account. Dashti was the voice of the group and a prominent media personality during previous governments.

He was also the nephew of Abdullah Abdullah, a senior official of the former government who is involved in negotiations with the Taliban on the future of Afghanistan.
And from another Al Ahram article:
A senior Taliban front man tweeted Sunday that Taliban troops had overrun Rokha district, one of largest of eight districts in Panjshir.

fled the country, Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, and Gulbadin Hekmatyar are the only political figures who are holding frequent meetings in Kabul both with the Taliban leadership and tribal elders.

The trio who have also created a council are said to be members of the 12-member grand council which is planned by the Taliban to be leading the upcoming government.

It is still not clear whether the three will have executive authority in the upcoming council.

The Taliban are still busy discussing the format of the upcoming government but have frequently promised to be forging an all-inclusive government.

Acting minister of culture and information and spokesperson of the Afghanistan Islamic Emirate Zabiullah Mujahid in a presser in Kabul had said that the religious scholars-Ulama- will be leading the government.

Report: Corrupt Ex-President Hamid Karzai Slinks onto Taliban Ruling Council
2021-08-26
[Breitbart] Notoriously corrupt former President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
and political partner Gulbuddin Hekmatyar,
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
popularly known as the “Butcher of Kabul,” will reportedly govern Afghanistan as part of a Taliban ruling council, Afghan media reported on Wednesday.

Karzai and Hekmatyar, alongside former Afghan government peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah,
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
had announced the formation of their own “coordination council” last week to help Taliban jihadists organize a functional government following their ouster of the U.S.-backed government in Kabul on August 15. Karzai went on a media tour including both legitimate outlets like the Associated Press and Chinese state propaganda outlets like the New York Times this summer, disparaging America – despite its pivotal role in his ascent to power – and calling for China to play a bigger financial role in the future of Afghanistan.

Karzai became president in the aftermath of the American invasion of Afghanistan in autumn 2001, which resulted in the ouster of the then-incumbent Taliban regime. He served as president until 2014, running a government defined by rampant corruption, nepotism, and record-breaking narcotics cultivation. Estimates of how much money Karzai and his family stole from U.S. taxpayers range into the billions.

Taliban jihadists took over Afghanistan again on August 15, surrounding Kabul and prompting ex-President Ashraf Ghani to flee the country. Taliban spokesmen have repeatedly promised in press statements that the jihadists would commit to building a functional state apparatus, suggesting that the regime would likely consist of a supreme council, directed by radical Islamist clerics, that would ensure “inclusive” government.

The Russian news agency Tass reported on Wednesday, citing Afghanistan’s Ariana News TV, that the Taliban had agreed to give seats on its governing council to Karzai, Abdullah, and Hekmatyar. Taliban spokesmen have yet to confirm the report at press time. Tass also reported, citing Foreign Policy, that the three men are likely to be part of a “a 12-man council to rule Afghanistan.” Foreign Policy also predicted that members of the former government may also surface as ministers in charge of various government agencies, in addition to having seats on the council, as a concession to international observers.

Joining Karzai and his coordination council will likely be members of the Haqqani network, one of Afghanistan’s deadliest terrorist organizations. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, a Taliban co-founder and most powerful man in the organization, will likely serve as supreme leader.

The Washington Post reported this week that Baradar, in an attempt to transform his terrorist organization into a government, met with CIA leader William Burns this week. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the report during a press conference Tuesday.

The appointments the Taliban has made public since taking over the country indicate that the group does not have a significant number of people with political management experiment among its ranks to promote. Khaama Press reported on Tuesday that Taliban leaders had announed the appointment of several jihadis to key positions such as minister of education and head of the central bank. Karzai and his team would appear to fill a void of experience.

Karzai was Afghanistan’s head of state for 13 years. In an in-depth report published in 2010, the New York Times, revealed that Karzai largely used that power to appoint unqualified members of his family to high-ranking government positions, resulting in the disappearance of billions, much of it American money offered as aid to keep the Afghan government afloat.

“American officials say the Karzais and a handful of other well-connected families have benefited from the billions of dollars that the United States has poured into the country since 2001,” the Times reported.

Confronted by the Associated Press over the widespread corruption he presided over in 2019, Karzai blamed the U.S. government for tempting him with aid for years.

“What could we do?” Karzai shrugged.

Last month, Karzai described the U.S. government’s role in Afghanistan – not his own as president – as “total disgrace and disaster.” He urged the Chinese Communist Party to fill the void of U.S. aid in the country, calling it “a very constructive player.”

Unlike Karzai, Hekmatyar offers less in the way of formal government experience. A mujihadeen by trade, the “butcher of Kabul” developed a reputation as “a sociopath and a warlord” in the 1990s.

Hekmatyar, journalist Terry Galvin described, “almost single-handedly turned Kabul to rubble during the early 1990s,” according to Australia’s News.com.au. Hekmatyar is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 50,000 people.
