JUI-F protests have nothing to do with May 9 mayhem: Fazlur Rehman
2024-05-08
[GEO.TV] Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...Assembly of Islamic Clergy, or JUI, is a Pak Deobandi (Hanafi) political party. There are two main branches, one led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman, and one that was led by Maulana Samiul Haq. Fazl is active in Pak politix and Sami spent more time running his madrassah until his secretary rubbed him out in a jealous rage. Both branches sponsor branches of the Taliban, though with plausible deniability...

's (PTI) political rights these days, distanced himself from the former ruling party in connection with the May 9 riots.

Speaking on the Geo News programme Capital Talk, the JUI-F chief said: "Our Million March and Awami Assembly have nothing to do with the May 9 incidents."

The May 9 violence were triggered almost across the country after the deposed prime minister Imran Khan's arrest in the £190 million settlement case last year. Hundreds of PTI workers and leaders were put behind bars for their alleged involvement in violence and attacks on military installations.

During the protests, the miscreants targeted the civil and military installations including — Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military termed May 9 "Black Day" and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.

In his fresh interview with Hamid Mir, Maulana Fazl said that his party had also staged a protest against the May 9 violence and the entire nation had taken notice of the attacks on the state property.

It is pertinent to mention here that Fazl, in March this year, announced launching a movement called "Awami Assembly" against the results of the general elections which he believes were "rigged".

The JUI-F chief, while lambasting the "establishment" for "constantly interfering" in politics, had announced million marches against the alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections. He had made the announcement while delivering his maiden speech in the National Assembly last month.

White powder in threat letters sent to judges contained '10% arsenic'
2024-04-06
[GEO.TV] The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has received the forensic report of the powder found in mysterious letters sent to the judges of the high courts and the Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
, sources told Geo News.

At least four judges of the SC, eight of the Islamabad High Court and six of the Lahore High Court received letters, creating fear in the judiciary. The latest judge to receive the threatening letter was LHC's Justice Ali Baqar Najafi.

The CTD lodged two FIRs against unknown people and launched an inquiry into the matter.

The sources disclosed that arsenic mixed in white powder was found in the letters. They further revealed that the powder contained 10% arsenic, adding that a higher ratio of the material can be "very poisonous" and harmful to the human body and can affect the nervous system upon inhalation.
So does that mean 10% is dangerous or not?
The Sherlocks have obtained the videos of the CCTV cameras installed near the letterboxes in the sub-divisional post office Satellite Town, Rawalpindi.

The sources shared that the suspects in the videos are being identified with the help of Nadra.

Earlier, the judges of the IHC including the chief justice received the letters containing the white powder which was believed to be anthrax.

Later, CJP Qazi Faez Isa and three other SC judges including Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Aminuddin received similar letters.

After this, five LHC judges were sent letters while Justice Baqar Najvi received a similar letter today.

Amid calls to probe the matter mount, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has promised the government would probe the matter of threat letters received by judges with suspicious powder, with a sense of responsibility to uncover the reality.

Addressing the federal cabinet, the prime minister observed that the sensitive matter should not be given a political colour.

'Anthrax-laced letters': CCTV cameras around post boxes found malfunctioning
2024-04-05
Law enforcement agents investigating the suspected anthrax-laced letters sent to the judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
revealed that most of the CCTV cameras around the post boxes were out of order when the envelopes were inserted into them, it emerged on Thursday.

On March 3, just a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistain took suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
notice over the allegations of six IHC judges against intelligence agencies, the IHC chief justice among eight judges received suspected letters.

The CTD team is racing against time to collect facts and ascertain the chemical nature of the powdery substance after the eight IHC judges received "letters containing suspected anthrax powder along with a threatening message".

According to sources, the case of suspicious letters is being investigated by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Islamabad police and a report on the progress made so far has been communicated to the Registrars of the Supreme Court and the IHC.

Sources indicate that an examination of post boxes located within Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, is ongoing, with many CCTV cameras surrounding the post boxes found to be inoperative.

Islamabad police have expanded the scope of the investigation using alternative means, including questioning individuals working in shops and offices in the area of post boxes. Furthermore, all staff at the Satellite Town, Rawalpindi post office have been included in the inspection.

According to sources, the letters were sent by a woman named Resham without mentioning her address. They added that a staffer of a judge accidentally dropped the envelope containing the suspicious powdery substance and later felt extreme irritation in their eyes and burns on the skin around his lips.

Following the incident, Islamabad Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) police were summoned to the IHC. All the suspicious letters were handed over to the police for further investigation.

It is noteworthy that initially, eight judges of the Islamabad High Court received suspicious letter, later judges of the Lahore High Court and even judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistain also got similar mail.

'Bushra Bibi poisoned in Bani Gala sub-jail', Imran Khan tells court
2024-04-03
[GEO.TV] Incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan Tuesday apprised the court that his wife and ex-first lady Bushra Bibi was poisoned at the Bani Gala sub-jail.

The PTI founder made the claim during a hearing of the £190 million settlement case in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail. Khan informed the accountability court judge that the former first lady had marks on her skin and tongue after "being poisoned".

He sought the court’s order for an inquiry into the incident and a complete medical checkup of Bushra Bibi.

Khan said: “I know who is behind it."

He insisted that the medical examination of the former first lady should be done by Dr Asim Yunus, a doctor at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

At this, the court directed Khan to submit a written application seeking the medical examination of Bushra Bibi.

In February this year, the PTI expressed grave concern over what it claimed serious threats to the life and health of Bushra, who has been put under house arrest at Bani Gala. PTI Women Wing President Kanwal Shauzab pointed out that Bushra had serious health issues due to the harmful and substandard food being provided to her.

PTI lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha had claimed that Bushra’s “health worsened and she got mouth ulcers after she was given a spicy meal” during her house arrest.

Bushra was placed under house arrest at her husband’s Islamabad mansion after she and her husband were convicted of graft allegations. Khan and his wife were sentenced to 14 years in jail in a case that relates to accusations the ex-premier undervalued gifts from a state repository and gained profits from selling them while he held the country’s top office.

'Toilet cleaner mixed in food'
During her interaction with journalists before the court appearance, the former first lady claimed that “three drops of toilet cleaner” were mixed in her food on the eve of Shab-e-Meraj. She revealed that the food and water served by the jail authority tasted bitter.

Responding to a question, Bushra said that “someone” had told her in jail that toilet cleaner was mixed in her food. She, however, refused to disclose the name of the official.

“My eyes swell up, I feel pain in my chest and stomach,” the former first lady claimed.

Research showed that the health of a toilet cleaner victim worsens after one month, she also insisted.

Bushra further said that the windows at Bani Gala were kept closed earlier but now they are open for some time.

Najaf is facing charges of accumulating assets beyond his known source of income, corruption and misconduct.

The statement came after Khan, a former prime minister imprisoned in several cases and serving more than three decades, was barred from holding meetings inside Rawalpindi's Adiala jail for two weeks owing to security concerns.

"This move wasn’t made to take away any facility from him [Khan]. There is a serious threat alert, which is under investigation," Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bukhari told Geo News’ Shahzeb Khanzada.

Bukhari, who recently assumed office after her party, Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz, an arch rival of the PTI, came into power, said her party was not seeking Dire Revenge from the former prime minister.

She said the fresh restrictions were imposed, as a few days back, the law enforcers had arrested bandidos forces of Evil who possessed a map of the jail in which Khan is currently imprisoned.

Last week, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have arrested three terrorists, allegedly belonging to Afghanistan, who had a map of Adiala Jail, a hand grenade, and Improvised Explosive Devices.

"The incident is under investigation. A series of threat alerts have been issued. These measures were taken to ensure the security of all the prisoners. The security of the facility has to be improved," she said.

On the reported presence of terrorists, the security forces came into action immediately and conducted an operation in the tribal district today.

During the conduct of operation, intense fire exchange took place between the troops, and the terrorists, as a result of which six bad boyz were potted, whereas, one soldier also sustained injuries, the military’s media said in an official statement.

"Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the killed terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities including murder as well as extortion and abduction of innocent civilians," it added.

The forces were conducting a sanitisation operation to eliminate any other bully boyz found in the area, the ISPR said, adding that locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

An intelligence-based operation had been conducted by the security forces in Tank District, according to the ISPR. During the IBO, two terrorists, including a high-value target (HVT) Rehmat Ullah alias Badar Mansur, were killed.

"In another operation conducted in South Waziristan District, after intense fire exchange, seven bully boyz were sent to hell." However,

and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million reference.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana conducted the hearing at Adiala jail today where the PTI founder is currently incarcerated in Toshakhana, cipher and illegal marriage cases.

The accountability court judge read the charge sheet in Khan and Bushra's presence in the courtroom.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Deputy Prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi, along with his team, also appeared in the court.

The NAB had initiated an investigation against Imran Khan, his wife, and others regarding the alleged acquisition of hundreds of canals of land under the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a reported loss of 190 million pounds to the exchequer.

During the hearing today, the court said that statements of 58 witnesses will be recorded in the case.

The judge asked the PTI founder if he was guilty or not while framing charges against him.

At this, Khan said: "Why should I read the charge sheet when I know what's written in it?"

Both Khan and his wife then denied the charges against them.

At this point, Khan came to the rostrum and said that they didn't want a delay in this case. "NAB was in a hurry before February 8, now we want a quick conviction."
