[NYPOST] Bodies found in a mass burial site outside of the recently liberated Ukrainian city of Izyum show signs of torture, Ukrainian authorities said — a grim echo of the grisly discoveries made after the liberation of Kyiv’s northern suburbs in April.
The site, on the outskirts of the city, contained 445 graves, according to Ukrainian police. Some bodies discovered there had their hands tied behind their backs and rope around their necks, Oleksandr Filchakov, head prosecutor for the Kharkiv region, said.“Bucha, Mariupol, now, unfortunately, Izium,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly address Thursday. “Russia leaves death everywhere. And it must be held accountable for it.”
“We want the world to know what is really happening and what the Russian occupation has led to,” he added.
More than 400 bodies were discovered at a burial site in Izium after the city was liberated from Russian forces.
Reporters from the Associated Press witnessed at least 400 wooden crosses marking graves in the forest outside Izyum.
While authorities said they believe most of those buried there were civilians, one grave was marked as the burial place of 17 Ukrainian soldiers.
“We haven’t counted them yet, but I think there are more than 25 or even 30,” Oleg Kotenko, a Ukrainian official, said of the soldiers in the grave.
Investigators and witnesses said some among the dead were shot, others killed in artillery barrages, by airstrikes and land mines.
Sergei Gorodko, an Izyum resident, said that among the dead were dozens of adults and children killed in a Russian airstrike on an apartment building. Gorodko said he’d pulled some of them from the rubble with his own hands.
Despite the gruesome echoes of the war’s earlier atrocities, the Izyum site differs from those uncovered in the spring in Bucha and other northern towns.
In the Kyiv suburbs, bodies of civilians appeared to have been thrown together into unmarked graves. At the recently discovered Izyum site, graves were marked and numbered.
Russia did not immediately comment on the reports. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied allegations its forces are targeting civilians.
With an estimated 445 bodies, the Izyum mass grave would be the largest found in Europe since the brutal Balkan wars of the 1990s.

The European country took control of the oil refinery on Friday, risking retaliation from Russia.
The move comes amid Germany’s target to shore up energy supplies and meet its European Union commitment to eliminate Russian oil imports by the end of the year, Reuters reports.
The economy ministry said it was putting a unit of Russian oil firm Rosneft (ROSN.MM) under the trusteeship of the industry regulator and taking over the business' Schwedt refinery, which supplies 90 percent of Berlin's fuel.
Energy supplies from Russia were disrupted after Moscow invaded Ukraine and NATO countries hit Russia with sanctions.
The economy ministry in a statement said Rosneft's German subsidiaries, which account for about 12 percent of oil refining capacity in the country, were placed under trusteeship of the Federal Network Agency.
"The trust management will counter the threat to the security of energy supply," it said.
"With the trusteeship, the threat to the security of energy supply is countered and an essential foundation stone is set for the preservation and future of the Schwedt site," the ministry said in a statement.
Governments across Europe have been racing to prop up their power providers and secure fuel deliveries as they ratchet up sanctions on major supplier Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

[FoxNews] Germany backtracks stern stance on military vehicles to Ukraine and send infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers.
Russia's ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev told state-owned media on Friday that Germany had "crossed" a red line by proving arms to Ukraine.
"Supplying the Ukrainian regime with German weapons is not only against Russian servicemen, but also against the Donbas civilians," Nechayev told RT. "It is certainly the red line which the German authorities should not have crossed."
The ambassador’s comments come one day after German defense officials pledged weapons and equipment for Ukraine as it faced backlash at home and abroad for not doing more.
Two multiple-launch rocket systems, known as MARS II, 200 missiles and 50 Dingo armored personnel carriers will be sent to Ukraine, Defense News confirmed Thursday afternoon.
Germany will also work to finalize a swap with fellow NATO member Greece that will see Berlin send Athens 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, as Greece deploys 40 of its BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht reportedly confirmed.
The announcement is not the first time Germany has appeared to backtrack its stance on sending more aid to Ukraine after suggesting its own stocks were vulnerably low.
Lambrecht’s decision comes just days after Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba slammed Germany for its refusal to send military vehicles earlier this week.
Kuleba’s comments came after Lambrecht said Monday that Germany could not send Ukraine tanks or other vehicles despite its pleas as it makes gains against Russian forces on the front lines.
"It's not so simple just to say ‘I'll just risk that we won't be able to act, the defense of the country, by giving everything away’," she reportedly said. "No, I won't do that. But we have other possibilities, from industry, with our partners."
Russia has repeatedly used escalatory language regarding Ukrainian arms supplies from the West.
Foreign Minister Maria Zakharova on Thursday warned the U.S. that sending Ukraine longer-range missiles like the Army Tactical Missile System, which has a range of roughly 185 miles, would again be a "red line" crossed.
The Biden administration has repeatedly said it does not intend to send longer-range missile systems to Ukraine, citing fears over sparking a third World War.
