AQAP announces the death of its emir Khalid Batarfi
[Twitter]

Le Monde adds:
Batarfi had appointed his successor back in February 2020, following the death of his predecessor, Qassim al-Rimi, in a US dronezap or Yemen.

Al-Qaeda's branch in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
has announced the death of its leader Khalid Batarfi and named a successor, SITE Intelligence Group reported Sunday, March 10. The monitoring service said Batarfi's body was shown in footage released by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP) in a burial shroud and wrapped in a flag bearing the jihadist group's name.

"God took his soul while he patiently sought his reward and stood firm, immigrated, garrisoned, and waged jihad," SITE quoted an AQAP veteran as saying of Batarfi in the nearly 15-minute video. There were no immediate details of the time or cause of Batarfi's death. He was believed to be in his 40s.

The United States considers al-Qaeda's Yemen branch the most dangerous faction of the global jihadist network, and the State Department designated Batarfi in 2018 a "global terrorist". SITE said the group had named its new chief Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, who last appeared in a video released in February 2023 urging Sunni rustics to join AQAP.

The Sunni bad boy group thrived in the chaos of years of war since 2014 between Yemen's Saudi-backed government and Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s
. AQAP has carried out operations in Yemen against both the Huthis and government forces.

It has also carried out sporadic attacks abroad, including on the offices of the French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo

in 2015 and a 2019 mass shooting at a US naval base in Florida, in which a Saudi Air Force officer killed three American sailors.
Update from the Times of Israel at 2:15 p.m. ET:
Khalid al-Batarfi had a $5 million bounty on his head from the US government over leading the group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula over years that saw him imprisoned, freed in a jailbreak, and governing forces in Yemen amid that country’s grinding war.

Though believed to be weakened in recent years due to infighting and suspected US drone strikes killing its leaders, the group known by the acronym AQAP has long been considered the most dangerous branch of the extremist group still operating after the killing of founder Osama bin Laden.

Al-Qaeda released a video showing al-Batarfi wrapped in a white funeral shroud and al-Qaeda’s black-and-white flag. Terrorists offered no details on the cause of his death and there was no clear sign of trauma visible on his face. Al-Batarfi was believed to be in his early 40s.

In the announcement, the group said Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki would take over as its leader. The US has a $6 million bounty on him, saying al-Awlaki “has publicly called for attacks against the United States and its allies.”
Why is the new guy worth 20% more than the dead one was?
Estimates provided to the UN put AQAP’s total forces as numbering between 3,000 and 4,000 active fighters and passive members. The group raises money by robbing banks and money exchange shops,
…how very tawdry and commonplace…
as well as smuggling weapons, counterfeiting currencies, and ransom operations, according to the UN.
…smuggling weapons and ransom operations being the usual occupations of Yemeni lads when they’re feeling feisty. Currency counterfeiting is a bit more technical than they usually get up to, but every group contains at least a few eager to learn and better themselves…
Under al-Batarfi, AQAP fell further under the influence of al-Qaeda fighter Saif al-Adel, now believed to lead the terror group after the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri in a US drone strike in Afghanistan in 2022. That came as Yemen has been locked in a war between the Houthi rebels, who hold the capital, Sanaa, and a Saudi-led coalition backing the country’s exiled government based in Aden.

“Since 2020, Saif al-Adel has been able to convince al-Batarfi of his strategic approach, focused on confronting Western states and their allies in Yemen — the Saudi-led coalition, the Aden-based government, the United Arab Emirates and its allies — rather than confronting the Iranian-backed Houthi movement,” a 2023 report by the Sanaa Center for Strategic Studies said.

Al-Adel is believed to be in Iran, part of a longtime al-Qaeda presence in the Islamic Republic. That’s long been denied by Tehran but backed up by documents seized in the 2011 US raid in Pakistan that killed bin Laden, who orchestrated the September 11, 2001, attacks on the US.
Good to know.
Al-Batarfi’s ties to al-Adel had strained relations in AQAP, experts say. However, it has seen the terrorists become armed with bomb-carrying drones — something the Houthis now use to target shipping in the Red Sea amid the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.
Very interesting — a hint that not only is Iran sheltering Al Qaeda’s top leaders, but supplying at least one of its key franchises as well.
AQAP “developed unmanned aerial systems capabilities, establishing a specialized drone unit, with operational training from the Houthis,” a UN report from January says.
That goes well beyond hinting. And the Houthis would only help their enemy on direct orders from Tehran.
“It prioritizes liberating its prisoners to replenish ranks; in September, the Houthis released several AQAP members and explosives experts.”

The Shiite Zaydi Houthis have previously denied working with AQAP, a Sunni extremist group. However, AQAP targeting of the Houthis has dropped in recent years while the terrorists continue to attack Saudi-led coalition forces.
Me and my brother against my cousin. Me and my cousin against the outside world.
Yemen’s history and tribal structure long has seen alliances rapidly shift, something its late strongman President Ali Abdullah Saleh referred to as “dancing on the heads of snakes.”

Al-Batarfi, born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, traveled to Afghanistan in 1999 and fought alongside the Taliban during the US-led invasion. He joined AQAP in 2010 and led forces in taking over Yemen’s Abyan province, according to the US.

In 2015, he was freed after an AQAP raid that saw the terrorists capture Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s largest province, Hadramawt, amid the chaos of the war. A photo at the time showed al-Awlaki with a Kalashnikov rifle, posing inside a government palace there.

AQAP was later pushed out of Mukalla but has continued attacks and been the target of a US drone strike campaign since the administration of then-president George W. Bush.

In 2020, there had been claims that al-Bartafi had been detained, which later were denied. In 2021, he appeared in a video by the terror group and referred to the January 6 riot at the US Capitol as “only the tip of the iceberg of what will come to them, God willing.”

Africa Horn
Sudan: Internet shutdown threatens delivery of humanitarian, emergency services
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A near total communication blackout in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
following all network and internet shutdowns in early February poses serious risks to the coordination of emergency assistance and humanitarian services to millions of people caught up in the conflict, a campaign group said on Friday.

The continued shutdown, Amnesia Amnesty International said, has limited millions of people’s ability to communicate with their families, seek safe zones from fighting, access life-saving necessities, as well as receive mobile money services.
and watch western white women
"The ongoing telecommunications blackout is unacceptable; it puts millions of lives at risk. As millions of Moslem faithful in Sudan prepare to mark the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadhan, Amnesia Amnesty International demands full restoration of communication services in all of Sudan," said Sarah Jackson, Amnesia Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa.

"This blackout is affecting already vulnerable populations who have had to endure conflict for close to a year now. Without communication, humanitarian operations and emergency services are likely to grind to a complete halt, putting millions of lives at risk. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) must refrain from shutting down the internet as this is a lifeline for civilians," she added.

Since conflict broke out in April 2023, according to Access Now, both SAF and RSF have shut down the internet to block information flows in areas controlled by the opposing sides. The latest shutdown in early February is reportedly exacerbating an already catastrophic humanitarian and human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
crisis that has seen more than 14,000 people killed and more than 9 million other displaced.

The continued weaponization of internet shutdowns by the warring parties in Sudan is a violation of international law, according to human rights organizations.

More than 20 people interviewed by Amnesia Amnesty International said they continue to face challenges communicating with their friends and family members since the beginning of the communication blackout in early February.

This has created anxiety among Sudanese communities outside the country who are unable to connect and communicate with their loved ones.

Nigeria: Parents of abducted school children wait anxiously for news
[AFRICANEWS] Parents of kidnapped children in Nigeria waited anxiously to hear off any news concerning the recovery of the children on Saturday.

Nearly 300 children were kidnapped from their school by cycle of violence-riding button men in the latest mass kidnapping, which analysts and activists blamed on the failure of intelligence and a slow security response.

The abduction of the 287 children in Kaduna state, near the West African nation's capital, is one of the largest school kidnappings in the decade since the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Borno state’s Chibok village in 2014 stunned the world.

Analysts and activists say the security lapses that allowed that mass abduction remain.

"They came in dozens, riding on (motor) bikes, shooting sporadically and randomly," said the school's assistant headteacher, Nura Ahmad.

The victims of the latest attack — among them at least 100 children aged 12 or under — were surrounded and marched into a forest just as they were starting the school day, said locals in Kuriga town, located 55 miles (89 kilometers) from the city of Kaduna.

One man was rubbed out as he tried to save the students, school authorities said.

One mother, Rashidat Hamza, had five of her six children among those kidnapped.

She hopes her children, aged between 7 and 18-years-old, can be brought back home swiftly.

"We don’t know what to do but we believe in God. We don’t have security, no soldiers, no police to protect the school," Hamza said.

"Since this happened, my brain has been scattered. I can’t even walk around because I am worried about the children and their condition," said Shehu Lawal, whose son was also kidnapped.

No group has grabbed credit for this mass abduction but locals blame it on the bandidos who carry out frequent mass killings and abductions for large ransoms in remote villages across Nigeria’s northwest and central regions.

Women, children and students are often targeted in the mass abductions in the conflict-hit northern region and many victims are released only after paying huge ransoms.

Yemeni military forces train for combat against Zionists in Negev desert
Got that ol' Zionist Entity quaking in their boots, betcha.
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i forces carried out on Sunday a military maneuver simulating the storming of Israeli enemy positions in the Negev Desert and control of the Dimona settlements and the virtual Israeli enemy’s camps and leadership centers.
They aren’t training in the Negev, but for fighting in the Negev someday — should Allah choose to will it. It could happen, donchaknow.
The maneuver carried out by the units of the Sixth Military Region of the Yemeni Armed Forces affiliated with the Sanaa regime, entitled "To Quds is our path," also simulated setting up ambushes targeting American-British supplies and reinforcements that came to support the Zionist enemy.

Various military units and divisions in the reserve forces of the Sixth Military Region, including the Air Force and the heavy and medium weapons, participated in the exercise, which comes as part of the military preparation and readiness to fight the battle of "the promised conquest and the holy jihad."

Following the maneuver, member of the Supreme Political Council in Sana’a, Muhammad Ali al-Iran's Houthi sock puppets

, confirmed the readiness of the Yemeni army for any confrontation with its enemies.

Al-Houthi pointed out that "America today is the loser," pointing out that the missiles targeting ships in the Red Sea are 100% Yemeni-made, and "if Washington believes that Yemeni weapons are from abroad, then they are delusional."

He addressed a message to the Paleostinians, saying: "We are with you and our military forces are developing, and the enemy has noticed the accuracy of hitting the targets marked in the sea."

Haiti: Gang violence spreads as Caribbean leaders race to stem situation
See also here.
[AFRICANEWS] Signs of a battle between gangs near the National Palace were everywhere in downtown Port-au-Prince Haiti's capital while families fled the city in terror.

On Saturday, a woman was lying in the street with a gunshot wound to her leg.

She was hit by a stray bullet while police exchanged gunfire with gang members to clear the neighbourhood.

Police armed with assault rifles nervously patrolled the area in armoured vehicles on streets covered with bullet shells from the previous night’s battle on Champ de Mars where the National Palace and many government buildings are located.

In another nearby neighbourhood, Carrefour Feuillie, the few remaining families hurried to leave their homes after last night’s battle. They are taking their children and what they can, carrying plastic bags to join another 15,000 people displaced since violence intensified on the 29th of February. They will head to shelters in schools or any other safe place to spend the day and likely many more days and nights as there doesn’t seem to be an end to the violence soon.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Sergeant Maloney wasn't buying it. It was just too pat. The whole thing smelled phony, kind of like a dead mackeral but without the scales...
Caribbean leaders have called for an emergency meeting in Jamaica with the United States, Canada, and La Belle France on Monday to seek a way out of spiralling gang violence in Haiti.

Members of the CARICOM regional trade bloc have been trying for months to get political actors in Haiti to agree to form an umbrella transitional unity government.
‘Cause that’ll work, fer shure!
Representatives from Brazil and the U.N. have also been invited to Monday’s emergency meeting.

In a statement by the Guyanese president Irfaan Ali, acting as chairman of the Caribbean Community, said that "the situation on the ground remains dire and is of serious concern to us".

It is unclear whether Haiti's PM Ariel Henry will be in Jamaica.

Henry had travelled to Kenya to push for the U.N.-backed deployment of a police force from the East African country to fight gangs in Haiti.

Henry, who is facing calls to resign or form a transitional council, remains unable to return home. He arrived in Puerto Rico on Tuesday after failing to land in the Dominican Republic, which borders Haiti.

Widespread gang violence has plagued Haiti for nearly three years, particularly after the liquidation of President Jovenel Moise in July 2021 deepened political instability in the Caribbean nation.

More than a ton of cocaine seized in the port of Le Havre in France
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] French customs officers seized more than 1 ton of cocaine, which was delivered to the port of Le Havre from Brazil, BFMTV reported on March 10, citing a source.

According to journalists, a large batch of drugs was packaged in small packages and delivered with a load of sugar. Customs officers in Le Havre found a bag of sugar containing 100 grams of cocaine and became interested in the entire shipment.

Drug Enforcement Administration officials were reportedly called to the scene. They seized about 50 bags of cocaine. Moreover, the container had previously passed through ports in Rotterdam and Antwerp. There is information that part of the shipment has already been unloaded in Belgium.

“We can assume that initially there were about three tons of cocaine in this container,” the source told reporters.
At least now they know where to look.
He added that law enforcement officers are actively looking for those who organized the delivery of this shipment.

As Regnum reported, this is not the first time such a large shipment of drugs has been intercepted at the port of Le Havre. In August 2019, customs also detected a shipment of cocaine weighing more than a ton. The prohibited cargo was brought from Ecuador via Antwerp. It was hidden in a shipment of hearts of palm.

In February 2024, FSB officers stopped a large channel for the supply of cocaine to Russia from Latin America. They seized 641 kg of this drug in St. Petersburg. Those transporting prohibited substances were detained.

Pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel activists aim to disrupt Oscars with street protest
[IsraelTimes] Several groups collaborating on march through Los Angeles under banner ’No awards during a genocide!’; police to boost presence in addition to already heavy security.

Pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel activists aim to disrupt arrivals at Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony with a street protest that will call for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas
...one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
war.

Organizers expect hundreds of people to turn up with the intention of causing as much disruption as possible, the Hollywood Reporter said Saturday. Demonstrators intend to march and block roads under the banner "No awards during a genocide!"

The protest will also call for an end to what organizers described as "the blockade of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. and the occupation of Paleostine."

Various artists and film workers are behind the protest, which was set up in collaboration with several organizations such as Writers Against the War on Gaza LA (WAWOG), Film Workers for Paleostine, and SAG-AFTRA Members

The 96th Oscar Awards are scheduled for Sunday evening at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Film Workers for Paleostine, in a joint statement with the anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Peace LA chapter, posted details to Instagram of the rallying point for the protest at LA’s Cinerama Dome, along with a poster declaring, "While you’re watching bombs are dropping."

"Let’s mobilize and take the streets to show that we refuse to look away from this ongoing genocide! Ceasefire NOW!" the statement said.

Film Workers for Paleostine and SAG-AFTRA for Ceasefire, also among the organizers, said in a statement last week, "We will not let people turn away from the atrocities in Gaza. We are taking action and making sure Paleostine will NOT be ignored for some glitz and glam."

"We are well aware of the protesters, we have a number of backup scenarios we can activate quickly if needed," a security bigshot working for the Academy told Deadline on Saturday. "Working with our partners in the LAPD, we anticipate no problems or delays for our guests and nominees."

Steel fencing was already thrown up around the theater last week, as has been the case at previous Oscar award ceremonies.

An Oscar official told Deadline, "This is an industry built on always having a Plan B. Everyone has a right to protest, of course, but the show must go on, as they say."

Last week the Los Angeles police said it would boost its presence at the award ceremony to prevent war protests from disrupting the event.

Cmdr. Randy Goddard of the Los Angeles Police Department said intelligence, some of it gleaned from social media posts, indicated that at least one group "would like to stop the Academy Awards," The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported at the time.

Goddard said police were aiming to ensure the safety of guests at the awards but also noted, "We are going to try very hard to make contact with the groups as they show up, and lay out the expectation that we as the police are here to support your First Amendment constitutional rights [to freedom of speech]."

"We’re hopefully going to find that middle ground," Goddard said.

He noted that aside from police there will be almost 2,000 private security guards on duty for the Oscars. "My objective is to get the guests safely inside that venue," he said.

An FBI spokeswoman told the Times it maintains a presence at the Academy Awards, as it does at other special events, to share intelligence and support police.

While efforts will be made to keep war activism away from the ceremony, there will be no crackdown on opinions inside the building.

Academy sources told the New York Post last week that Oscar organizers will not censor speeches given by award winners at the event.

According to the Post, Oscar nominees Bradley Cooper and Mark Ruffalo were among over 260 artists who signed a letter to US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... or is that an act?...
in October calling for a ceasefire.

Activism has also hit the music industry. A few dozen pro-Paleostinian protesters demonstrated at the Grammy Awards in February, briefly blocking traffic. Inside the event, singer and social media influencer Montana Tucker donned a dress featuring a large yellow ribbon at its center, in a nod to the hostages still being held.

There were also minor protests at the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica the same month. In January, some celebrities donned yellow ribbon badges for the Golden Globes awards.<

Hamas high command number three possibly killed by IDF strike
[Jerusalem Post] Marwan Issa, deputy to Mohammed Deif and number three of Hamas's high command, was targeted by an Israeli airstrike on Saturday.
Everyone should be dancing the Horah. Cleaning up these vermin has been far too long in coming.
The IDF cleared the event for publishing on Monday morning.

Issa was reportedly hiding in Nusirat, in central Gaza, at the time of the strike, and it is unclear whether the Hamas leader was killed in the event. Maariv, citing Palestinian sources, reported that Hamas was concerned about the status of the terror chief.

15 TERRORISTS KILLED IN CENTRAL GAZA
Separately, in central Gaza, the IDF eliminated 15 terrorists through close-quarters engagements, sniper fire, and airstrikes, the IDF stated on Monday.

In one encounter, Israeli troops identified a terror cell carrying what were suspected to be weapons out of a Hamas military compound in the area. After observing the subsequent activities of the cell, the terror cell was eliminated by a strike from an IDF aircraft, the military noted.

The IDF similarly eliminated another terror cell that was observing the Israeli troops in the area.

The Israeli forces also operated in the area of Hamad in southern Gaza, where special forces units conducted raids on a number of civilian residences that were being used for terror purposes, the IDF reported.

During these raids, the IDF troops arrested Hamas terrorists and found weapons, ammunition, and other military ordnance. In one operation, an anti-tank missile was launched at the soldiers, however not injuries among IDF personnel were reported as a consequence.

This is a developing story.

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Sunday the death of a soldier killed battling Hamas

in Gaza, as fighting showed no signs of waning amid deadlocked truce talks on the eve of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan, while several countries continue efforts to send more aid to the besieged Strip amid widespread hunger.

Sgt. First Class (res.) Michael Gal, 29, of the Bislamach Brigade’s 450th Battalion, from Jerusalem, was killed fighting in southern Gaza on Sunday, the IDF said, bringing the toll of slain troops in the ground offensive against Hamas to 249.

Gal was slated to be buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, a few hours after the funeral at the same site of Maj. (res.) Amishar Ben David, 43, who was killed on Friday while fighting in the Strip.

Among those at Ben David’s funeral was his cousin, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

"You grew up and you sang the song of your life, a song of kindness and generosity," Ben David’s father, Haim, said at his funeral on Sunday, making a reference to his name, which is Hebrew for "my nation sings."

The military said Sunday morning that the Hamas operative who was responsible for killing Ben David was killed in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
. The IDF released footage of the strike, which it said was directed by troops of the Egoz commando unit.

The strike came as the IDF’s Commando Brigade continued to focus on the Hamad Town residential complex in Khan Younis, where troops have been fighting since March 3.

The IDF said Sunday morning that its troops were engaged in "intense fighting" against Hamas button men in the complex of modern apartment buildings. The project was largely funded by Qatar

and opened in 2016, with many apartments going to those whose homes were destroyed in previous wars between Israel and Hamas.

The IDF said the Maglan commando unit raided several apartments used by Hamas, and captured seized weapons. At one of the apartments, two Hamas operatives surrendered to the troops, the IDF said.

Later Sunday, the IDF said that an attack helicopter struck a Hamas site in the complex that was used by turbans who participated in the October 7 onslaught, killing four operatives.

The IDF said troops of the Givati Brigade also captured a cache of weapons at a Hamas hideout apartment in the area. The soldiers seized mortars, bombs, assault rifles and ammunition, the military said.

Givati troops are operating in the eastern part of Hamad, where the IDF said Hamas uses the high-rise towers for terror activity.

Also in Khan Younis, the IDF said the Bislamach Brigade killed 17 button men, and the 7th Armored Brigade killed several more operatives, including by calling in airstrikes.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Irene was indignant at the thought of doing such a thing without benefit of clergy...
in central Gaza, the Nahal Brigade killed 13 button men over the past day, including with sniper fire and by calling in airstrikes and tank shelling, the IDF said.

Airstrikes were also carried out against a site from which rockets were fired at troops inside Gaza, as well as Hamas infrastructure in Jabaliya and Beit Hanoun in the northern part of the Strip, the IDF added.

TRUCE HOPES DISSIPATE AS RAMADAN BEGINS
As the fighting continued to rage, Israel’s war cabinet was meeting Sunday night to discuss how to deal with temporary truce talks that appear to be stuck, Channel 12 news reported, a day after the Mossad intelligence service said that efforts to secure a deal were ongoing, but accused Hamas of refusing to negotiate in good faith.

“At this stage, Hamas is fortifying its position as if it is not interested in a deal, and it strives to ignite the region during Ramadan at the expense of the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip,” the Mossad said in a rare message Saturday night.

Hamas has accused Israel of refusing to budge in its demands and not actually being interested in a deal.

Citing two Egyptian security sources, Reuters reported Sunday evening that Egypt has been in contact with senior Hamas and Israeli figures as well as other mediators in an effort to restart negotiations, which ended in Cairo last week without a breakthrough.

Mediators have been scrambling to get a deal for a truce and to release hostages in place by the start of Ramadan, which begins Monday morning. War cabinet minister Benny Gantz has threatened that Israel would expand fighting into the southern city of Rafah, where over a million displaced Gazans are sheltering, if no deal was reached by the Ramadan deadline.

Police scuffle with worshipers outside Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on 1st night of Ramadan
[IsraelTimes] Officers seen assailing some with batons at entrance to site where thousands of Moslems prayed at start of fasting month

While thousands of Moslem worshipers entered the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem to pray on the first night of the holy month of Ramadan Sunday, coppers scuffled with some attendees at the entrance to the flashpoint Temple Mount site, according to a video circulating on social media.

The footage showed Israeli Border Police officers assailing some with batons at the entrance to the compound. In response to the video, Israel Police said it was working to "enable freedom of worship on the Temple Mount while at the same time ensuring safety and security, in accordance with instructions given by the politicianship."

It was not entirely clear what those instructions are.

Police said there was "increased inspection was carried out in the area" to detect threats and "prevent potential criminals, instigators and violators of public order, all for the sake of public peace and security, and the proper observance of Ramadan prayers."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged last week that the number of worshipers allowed to pray on the Temple Mount in the first week of Ramadan would be the same as in previous years and that no restrictions would be imposed on Israeli Arabs, overruling a previous decision by ultranationalist firebrand

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who oversees the Israel Police.

Most of the Arab population of Jerusalem, however, does not hold Israeli citizenship, and can therefore be subject to stricter limitations.

Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai was reportedly looking to limit attendance "in the initial stage" of Ramadan, adding that younger Arabs, whether Israeli or from East Jerusalem, are the main "agitators" and should therefore be barred.

Photos and videos filmed Sunday night and shared on X showed groups of young Moslem men who were refused access to the al-Aqsa compound praying in the alleys leading to it, and outside the walls of the Old City.

Ha’aretz reported that hundreds of young Paleostinians were prevented from accessing the site on Sunday night but that some managed to enter the compound with their parents or when police loosened the barriers due to pressure created by gatherings at the entrances.

According to the report, thousands of Moslem worshipers prayed at the site Sunday, with their numbers expected to swell over the coming days to reach tens of thousands on Friday.

Police: 13 Arab Israelis suspected of plotting attacks on behalf of Hamas
[IsraelTimes] Members of alleged cell, mostly from northern city of Sakhnin, accused of obtaining weapons and receiving instructions from Paleostinian terror group on preparing explosives

Israeli authorities were set to charge over a dozen Arab citizens accused of planning to carry out attacks on behalf of the Paleostinian terror group Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
, the Israel Police and Shin Bet security service said in a joint statement Sunday.

The 13 suspects, mostly from the northern city Sakhnin, are suspected of purchasing weapons from operatives in the West Bank, according to the statement.

Authorities said the plot had been unraveled during a months-long covert investigation.

Strip helped lead Sherlocks to the suspects.
Hamas intelligence documents, you say? Do tell.
Indictments against the suspects, some of whom were involved in rioting during the May 2021 Gaza war, were to be filed at Haifa District Court on Sunday.

Two men, Muhammad Khaled and Muhammad Yusef, were accused by police of leading the cell and recruiting the other members.

One of the suspects, Muhammad Khalaila, maintained contact with Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip who provided him with instructions on how to manufacture explosives and told him to recruit additional members, the statement said.

Authorities said four firearms, ammunition, and other equipment were seized in raids on the cell. Some of the weapons originated from the Israel Defense Forces, the statement said.
Whoops! The IDF has not been taking that nearly seriously enough.
Additionally, Suheib Jalbush, a West Bank Paleostinian accused of weapons dealing was also arrested for his involvement in the plot.

Authorities did not say where or when the arrests took place.

Police have been on high alert for violence amid rising tensions around the Ramadan holy month, which begins this week.

Police said separately that 20 East Jerusalem residents had been arrested on suspicion of incitement and support for terrorism over the past two weeks.

Some indictments have been made and the investigation is ongoing, they noted, accusing terror groups of attempting to stir up unrest in the capital around Ramadan by spreading "false information regarding the reality in Jerusalem, the Old City, and in particular the Temple Mount."

In the past, rumors of Israeli attempts to change the sensitive status quo at the Temple Mount, which Moslems refer to as the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, have threatened to upend any semblance of calm in Jerusalem.

saw the crescent moon Sunday night, meaning Monday is the first day of the fast in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, as well as much of the rest of the Moslem world, though others, like Jordan, will begin the holy month Tuesday.

Israeli security officials fear that Moslem anger over the Gaza war could rise to a crescendo during Ramadan, fueling unrest, especially if Israeli authorities attempt to limit access to the Haram al-Sharif holy site in Jerusalem, known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

war in remarks released to the public after his country’s Ramadan announcement.

"As it pains us that the month of Ramadan falls this year, in light of the attacks our brothers in Paleostine are suffering from, we stress the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities, to stop these brutal crimes, and provide safe humanitarian and relief corridors," the king said.

War cabinet minister Benny Gantz issued a direct appeal on Sunday evening to Moslem citizens of Israel, declaring that its war in Gaza is "not against Islam."

"These days, the State of Israel is in a difficult campaign that began with a murderous attack by Hamas holy warriors on all Israeli citizens, including Moslems," Gantz said in a pre-recorded message. "Our war is not against Islam — but against those who harmed the values of Islam. Against those who committed crimes against humanity, and also sought to tear apart Israeli society and our common future."

Declaring that Hamas wants to see Ramadan turn from a month of prayer to "a month of blood," Gantz asserted that the Gaza-based terror group "doesn’t represent the absolute majority of Israel’s Arab citizens."

The minister said that October 7 proved that "Arab society is an integral part of the State of Israel. When we are in danger, we are all in the same danger and face it together."

He added a pledge to maintain freedom of worship on the Temple Mount and called on Israeli Moslems to ignore "the forces of Evil who try to incite and harm us."

Police said earlier Sunday that terror groups were attempting to stir up unrest in the capital around Ramadan by spreading "false information regarding the reality in Jerusalem, the Old City and in particular the Temple Mount."

A statement said that 20 East Jerusalem residents had been arrested on suspicion of incitement and support for terrorism over the past two weeks.

In the past, rumors of Israeli attempts to change the sensitive status quo at the Temple Mount, which houses the al-Aqsa Mosque, have threatened to upend any semblance of calm in Jerusalem.

"The Israel Police will continue to act and allow for the observance of Ramadan prayers safely on the Temple Mount, while maintaining security and safety in the area," police said in a statement.

Despite a push last month from far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to restrict worshippers at the holy site, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last week that the numbers admitted to the compound this year would be similar to last year, pending a weekly assessment.

"This is our mosque and we must take care of it," said Azzam al-Khatib, director-general of the Jerusalem Waqf, the religious foundation that oversees al-Aqsa. "We must protect the presence of Moslems at this mosque, who should be able to enter in big numbers peacefully and safely."

In the West Bank, which has seen major violence for more than two years and a further surge since the war in Gaza, the stakes are also high, with Jenin, Tulkarm, Nablus and other volatile towns braced for further festivities.

Nonetheless, there were no announcements of major troop deployments from the Israel Defense Forces.

In Jerusalem, in contrast to previous years, the usual decorations around the Old City have not been put up, and there was a similar somber tone felt in towns across the West Bank ahead of the start of the holy month.

"We decided this year that the Old City of Jerusalem won’t be decorated out of respect for the blood of our children and the elders and the deaders," said Ammar Sider, a community leader in the Old City.

In the ruins of Gaza itself, where half the 2.3 million population is squeezed into the southern city of Rafah, many living under plastic tents and facing a severe shortage of food, the mood was correspondingly bitter.

"We made no preparations to welcome Ramadan because we have been fasting for five months now," said Maha, a mother of five, who would normally have filled her home with decorations and stocked her refrigerator with supplies for the evening Iftar celebrations when people break their fast.

"There is no food, we only have some canned food and rice, most of the food items are being sold for imaginary high prices," she said via a chat app from Rafah, where she is sheltering with her family.

For many of those waiting, there is little alternative but to hope for peace.

"Ramadan is a blessed month despite the fact this year is not like every year, but we are steadfast and patient, and we will welcome the month of Ramadan as usual, with decorations, songs, with prayers, fasting," said Nehad El-Jed, who was displaced with her family in Gaza.

"Next Ramadan, we wish for Gaza to come back, hopefully all the destruction and the siege in Gaza will change, and all will come back in a better condition."

Hezbollah fires dozens of rockets at Israel's Meron after deadly Khirbet Selm strike kills 3 Hezbullies
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Hezbollah on Sunday said it fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel after Israeli strikes the day before left five dead in southern Leb

ally Hezbollah and its arch-foe Israel have been exchanging near-daily fire across the border since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7.

Hezbollah said it launched "dozens of katyusha-type rockets" in the morning on the Israeli village of Meron, eight kilometers from the border.

Meron is home to a major air control base that the Iran-backed group has targeted several times since the start of the year.

Hezbollah said it acted "in response to Israeli attacks against villages in the south and the homes of civilians," particularly the targeting of the home of a fighter in Khirbet Selm the day before.

A woman and another person were also killed in the same strike, according to Lebanon's official National News Agency.

"Following the sirens that sounded in northern Israel, approximately 35 launches from Lebanon toward Israeli territory were identified, a number of which were intercepted," the Israeli army said on Sunday.

The statement added that the Israeli air force struck Hezbollah infrastructure during the night, including a "military structure in which Hezbollah Death Eaters were identified in the area of Khirbet Selm."

At least 312 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of cross-border violence on October 8, most of them Hezbollah fighters but also including 53 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

On the Israeli side, 10 soldiers and seven civilians have been killed, according to the latest official figures.

Tens of thousands of people have been displaced by the fighting on both sides of the border.

Strikes have largely remained confined to border regions for the moment, but several have hit Hezbollah positions further north in recent weeks, raising fears of a full-blown conflict.

The group has repeatedly said that it will only stop its attacks on Israel with a ceasefire in Gazoo

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. But Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said recently that any truce in Gaza would not change Israel's goal of pushing Hezbollah away from the border, by force or diplomacy.
The report from the Times of Israel:
No injuries as terror group launches dozens of rockets at Meron, Mount Dov and Mount Hermon; 5 reported killed in Israeli strike in Khirbet Selm, including 3 Hezbollah operatives

killed five people, including three members of the terror group.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, some 37 rockets were fired from Lebanon at the Mount Meron area on Sunday morning. There were no reports of injuries or damage in the attack. In the first barrage of 30 rockets, one projectile was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, and in the second barrage minutes later, seven rockets were fired, with six of them being successfully downed, the IDF said.

Hezbollah grabbed credit for the attack, saying it fired dozens of Katyusha rockets at the town of Meron. It did not claim to have targeted the IDF’s nearby Mount Meron air traffic control base, which Hezbollah has fired missiles at previously. Footage posted to social media showed several rockets striking the mountainside.

The terror group said the barrages were a response to the deaths of civilians in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon’s Khirbet Selm on Saturday night. Five members of one family were reported killed in the strike. Hezbollah announced that three of them, Jaafar Marji, Ali Marji, and Hassan Marji, were members of the terror group.
So not innocent civilian bystanders after all? How unexpected.
The IDF on Sunday morning confirmed it had struck a building in Khirbet Selm, where it said several Hezbollah operatives were spotted a night earlier. It also said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in Ayta ash-Shab and an anti-tank missile post in Maroun al-Ras.

Later Sunday, Hezbollah fired additional barrages of dozens of rockets at the Mount Hermon and Mount Dov regions on the border, causing no injuries.

Also Sunday, the IDF said an anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon at the Malkia area struck a military vehicle, causing damage but no injuries.

In another incident, a Hezbollah drone crashed in an open area in the Mount Hermon region, causing no damage or injuries according to the IDF.

Meanwhile, the IDF said it struck and killed a Hezbollah anti-tank missile squad in southern Lebanon’s Chebaa on Sunday. The cell was spotted by soldiers monitoring surveillance cameras, who called in an airstrike before it managed to carry out an attack, the IDF said.

IDF DRILLS FOR LEBANON GROUND OFFENSIVE
On Sunday, the IDF announced that over the past week, the military had carried out a logistics supply drill as part of its preparations for a potential ground offensive in Lebanon.

In the exercise, forces practiced delivering equipment, water, fuel, and ammunition to simulated “maneuvering forces” in Lebanon amid potential fighting, the IDF said.

The IDF said the drill included “loading and unloading equipment from Air Force aircraft and transporting equipment using vehicles on the ground” to the front lines.

So far, during the war in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Air Force has carried out airdrops of some 110 tons of equipment to troops, according to the IDF. Thousands more logistical supply operations were carried out using convoys of trucks.

“The IDF is prepared to carry out identical operations in the northern sector as well, with high intensity and under fire if required,” the military said.

So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in seven civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 10 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.

Hezbollah has named 241 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 37 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 30 civilians, three of whom were journalists, have been killed.

It's coming. Flatten what's left of Gaza and then expect an Israel invasion of southern Lebanon.

#2  ^Actually a Ramadan ceasefire (desired by the entire world) can be used to flatten Lebanon.
Just kidding: if there is a ceasefire, Hamas will drag the rockets they've stored in Rafah tunnels and use them.

, the country’s National News Agency reported.

It said a Zionist airstrike targeted a house in the Ain neighborhood in the center of Khirbet Selm town, resulting in the murder of a family of four—who had previously fled from the town of Blida—and the injury of more than nine others.
How many of them were on the Hezbollah payroll? Israel is pretty good about getting their targets.
The agency pointed out that Israeli warplanes fired two missiles at the house, resulting in the murder of a father from the Marji family, his pregnant wife from the Fakih family, their two sons, and another person.

The Israeli attack also injured nine people from surrounding houses, all of whom were transferred to the Tebnine Government Hospital.

The airstrike caused severe damage to dozens of surrounding houses, according to the agency.

Terror Networks
We remember: Spain's 9/11, 20 years ago today
[Wiki] The 2004 Madrid train bombings (also known in Spain as 11M) were a series of coordinated, nearly simultaneous bombings against the Cercanías commuter train system of Madrid, Spain, on the morning of 11 March 2004—three days before Spain's general elections. The explosions killed 193 people and injured around 2,050. The bombings constituted the deadliest terrorist attack carried out in the history of Spain and the deadliest in Europe since 1988. The attacks were carried out by individuals who opposed Spanish involvement in the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.
