PAKISTAN’S DEPORTATION THREAT - ECHOES OF HYPOCRISY – Lost amid the panic over the recent call to deport over 1 million Afghans from Pakistan is a lesson from a similar situation that shares many similarities with the crisis between Kabul and Islamabad of today. Pakistan’s Minister of the Interior has recently claimed that Afghan nationals have been complicit in terror attacks and are to blame for much of the insecurity in the country. In addition, both the previous regime and the current one have continued to blame the Taliban authorities for sheltering the TTP terror groups in Afghanistan and have suggested they are aiding the terrorists with weapons and equipment. While this may be true, the heavy-handed response called for by the caretaker regime seems excessive and calls to mind the events that transpired after the deadly Mumbai terror attacks that struck India in 2008.
On November 26th, 2008 a terror group consisting of 10 militant Islamists that was headquartered and trained in Pakistan, Lashkar-e-Taiba, launched a series of 12 coordinated gun and bomb attacks which lasted for a total of four days across Mumbai. The attacks killed 175 people (9 of whom included the terrorists) and wounded another 300. The attacks are commonly referred to as the 26/11 Attacks.
Similar to the situation facing Pakistan today, India alleged that support for the terrorists had been provided by the Pakistani intelligence services and that Pakistan had provided shelter for the group as it trained for its mission. Pakistan vehemently denied these accusations for several months but was eventually forced to investigate the cases in Pakistan under significant international pressure. Just like Pakistan, India lost nearly twenty police and military personnel putting the terrorists down. However, while there were some calls for the mass deportation of Pakistani nationals living in India, the brunt of the criticism fell on the Indian government and a slew of officials resigned.
Most will concede that Pakistan has borne the brunt of the violence outside of Afghanistan’s borders after the Taliban seized power in 2021. Few agree with this bizarre and unprecedented deportation action that has seemingly come out of nowhere and could affect over a million people who never had anything to do with terrorism.
INDIAN OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE IN TOUCH WITH AFGHAN DIPLOMATS IN THE COUNTRY – Officials in the Ministry of External Affairs said that their government was in discussions with Afghan diplomats who worked in the Embassy in New Delhi and also in both consulates (Mumbai and Hyderabad). The discussions indicated that the Embassy wanted to close but both Consul Generals wanted to keep their missions open to continue serving Afghan citizens.
55 AFGHAN FEMALE STUDENTS FINALLY ARRIVE IN DUBAI – Photos of another 55 female students who had been invited to Dubai to study under a wealthy patron’s offer to pay for their scholarships made the rounds on social media. Some staunch supporters of the Taliban regime took to social media and called on the Supreme Leader to reverse his policies with regard to banning education for women.
IRANIAN MEDIA OUTLETS CONTINUE TO SOUND ALARM OVER AFGHAN REFUGEES – A report from Jahan San’at News in Tehran is sounding the alarm that Southern neighborhoods of Tehran are overrun by Afghan refugees and that government infrastructure is being threatened by the additional workload. Some Iranian media outlets continue to promote xenophobic reporting with regard to the Afghan community there.

Nearly a month has passed since their detention, and there is no available information regarding their fate.
Sources from the province speaking to Hasht-e Subh on Wednesday, October 4th, stated that the Taliban’s intelligence apprehended Mohammad Nabi, the former principal of a public school, 25 days ago near the village of Qorbudeen in the Yayha Khel district of the province. As of now, no details have emerged about his current status or whereabouts.
Additionally, the Taliban intelligence arrested another resident of the same village named Yar Gul approximately 10 days ago. He is presently being held in the Taliban’s intelligence detention center in Yahya Khel district.
Despite persistent efforts by local tribal elders and the families of the detained individuals to seek clarification from the Taliban concerning the reasons for their detention, they have been unsuccessful in securing a meeting with the detainees. The Taliban have not provided any information about the alleged crimes of these individuals, leaving their families and the community in a state of uncertainty.
Many local residents have deemed the detention of these individuals arbitrary, contending that they have been imprisoned without cause and are likely being subjected to torture by the Taliban.

South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans... ese army on Wednesday repelled a major attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the headquarters of the 16th Infantry Division in South Darfur state. Sudanese military aircraft participated in the battle, bombing RSF positions in various city areas.
The state of South Darfur has been affected by violent mostly peaceful fighting between the army and the RSF, with fierce festivities in Nyala, Kass, Um Dafuq, and Mershng. The United Nations ...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense... estimates that the fighting has left many casualties and displaced about 50,000 residents of Nyala.
The RSF is seeking to control the army garrison in Nyala to gain control of the strategically located state of South Darfur. Still, the army has been determined to defend its base in the city centre.
A statement issued by Sudanese army front man Nabil Abdullah said, "Today, the forces of the 16th Infantry Division in Nyala repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces, which mobilized thousands of mercenaries."
He added that the attacking force was forced to flee after suffering heavy losses in lives and equipment.
Military sources told Sudan Tribune that over the past three weeks, the RSF has mobilized thousands of fighters from the states of Central, West, and North Darfur, as well as other forces from the cities of Kas, Rahid al-Bardi, Buram, and Um Dafuq to participate in the attack on the division’s headquarters.
The sources said that the RSF carried out the heaviest attack on the army’s military base with a large force led by a Rapid Support Colonel named Salah al-Fouti. The force used all types of weapons, including drones, to target sites surrounding the military garrison.
The sources added, "The army responded to successive waves of attacks, inflicting heavy losses on the attacking forces in lives and military vehicles, capturing several fighters, including a major officer, and destroying military vehicles in the vicinity of the Grand Market and the neighbourhoods surrounding the army headquarters."

Two questions exists, how much longer can the so-called government forces in South Darfur hold out without being resupplied? Second, who or what is supplying the RSF with arms and munitions? Reporting on this war, which has its impact from the Red Sea to the border with Chad (and beyond), has been excremental.
[ShabelleMedia] An Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... was reported in the central region of Mudug, targeting al-Shabaab ...... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa... positions as the Somali army stepped up a ground offensive against the group.
The morning aerial bombardment took place in Shabellow area, south of Mudug province where al-Shabaab has a training and command base, according to the military officials.
The SNA officers in the region say the operation inflicted losses upon al-Shabaab although they did not elaborate on the figures of the casualties. The situation was said to be tense.
Prior to today’s airstrike, there was intense fighting between Somali troops and al-Shabaab in the area which caused casualties on both sides. The SNA tries to capture the small town.
In August 2022, Mohamud launched a "total war" against al-Shabaab. In the first phase, Somali forces concentrated on the central regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug ...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth... , supporting local clans that were rebelling against al-Shabaab.
The first stage was the most effective offensive since 2016, expelling al-Shabaab from areas it had controlled for over a decade, and in March 2023 the government launched phase two to attack al-Shabaab in the south.
However, those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things... concerns remain about Somalia’s ability to hold the areas it has cleared and take more territory given the planned drawdown of foreign troops and the fact that southern clans have not shown the same propensity to turn on al-Shabaab.

Oct 4, 2018: The U.S. Defense Department awarded a more than $12 million contract for “emergency runway repairs” at Camp Baledogle, Somalia, last month. Camp Baledogle was the subject of a Foreign Policy Magazine exclusive...,it was described as a training base for Somali Army commandos. trainers were reported to be U.S. contractors working for Bancroft Global Development.
Now, the new runway repairs appear to be stepping up the capabilities of the airfield, and could be the harbinger of an expanding U.S. foot print in Somalia. U.S. Africa Command confirmed to Air Force Times that it operates facilities at Camp Baledogle alongside African partners, but scant on details regarding what aircraft currently, or are planned, to fly from there.

A blurb from the government said that Farah Yare and other members who were with him were targeted in the operation while they were passing through the village of Raydabley between Mubarak and Ugunji areas in the Lower Shabelle region.
The statement further said, "Mahamud Hassan Kadiye (Biriq) was an old man who was in charge of extortion and tribal lawsuits, and he was in charge of the water wells in Ugunji."
On the other hand, the government forces and international partners are carrying out a planned operation in the forest area of Mahaday district in the Middle Shabelle region.
The statement did not specify the foreign partner that helped the operation, but often, U.S. Africa Command drones carry out attacks on Somali Death Eater targets.
[Garowe] Dozens of local fighters were reportedly killed in the Mudug region following an ambush by al-Shabaab ...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... bully boys, multiple sources confirmed, in what could be a major setback in the ongoing crackdown against the group which controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia.
According to sources, the faceless myrmidons ambushed a local fighter between Wisil and Shabeelow, triggering a fierce shootout between the two rival groups. Local militia have been integral in the fight against al-Shabaab, giving the Somali National Army [SNA] much-needed backup.
The fighting started after senior military and civilian officials who have been at the frontline went to a hill to get a better phone signal, only to be ambushed by al-Shabaab fighters who have been monitoring their movements in recent days, witnesses said.
According to sources who spoke to Voice of America, as many as 30 local fighters have died in the ensuing fighting. Among the dead is a senior military officer, and civilian officials who traveled from Galkayo town to stay with the troops, witnesses added.
Al-Shabaab faceless myrmidons claimed killing 58 people in the fighting and maimed over 70, but these casualty figures have not been independently verified. The group usually exaggerates numbers as part of their propaganda to scare civilians and security forces fighting to stabilize Somalia.

Lieutenant-Colonel Évrard Somda has been replaced as head of the national gendarmerie by Lieutenant-Colonel Kouagri Natama, according to a presidential decree consulted by AFP.
"Lieutenant-Colonel Major Natama Kouagri of the national armed forces has been appointed Chief of Staff of the national gendarmerie," said the decree, signed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
Previously commander of the first gendarmerie region, Lieutenant-Colonel Natama had previously headed the departmental gendarmerie of Kaya (North), the region where the regiment of Captain Ibrahim Traoré was based. Traoré seized power in a coup d'état on 30 September 2022.
Evrard Somda, a former commander of the national gendarmerie's special units, had been in post since February 2022.
A respected officer, he was weakened last week by the arrest of four officers, including two commanders of special gendarmerie units, on suspicion of involvement in a "plot against state security", according to the government.
On Friday, in an interview on public television, Captain Ibrahim Traoré denied rumours that the gendarmerie had been dismantled.

[AFRICANEWS] The predominantly Tuareg rebellion in northern Mali claimed Wednesday the capture of a new camp of the national armed forces in the north of the country, the scene of a military escalation since August.
The High Council for the Unity of Azawad (HCUA) indicated in a brief statement on social networks that the army camp in Taoussa, not far from Bourem in the Gao region, was "under control" of the rebels, without further details.
A teacher contacted on-site by AFP reported exchanges of gunfire underway in the afternoon in the camp area.
The HCUA is one of the components of the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), an alliance of predominantly Tuareg gangs which, after rising against the central state in 2012, signed a peace agreement with him in 2015 but who have just taken up arms again in August.
Several army camps have since suffered attacks from the CMA but also from the Support Group for Islam and Moslems (GSIM), affiliated with al-Qaeda, between Timbuktu and Gao, and even further south.
The attackers commonly seize army positions and leave after a while, according to the rare information and images that emerge from these events. Military authorities generally say they repelled the attackers.
The assertions of all the protagonists are difficult to verify in these remote areas. Access to independent sources in a context of hostilities and military rule is complicated.
Since the end of August, northern Mali has been the scene of renewed hostilities against the army, in a context of rivalry for control of the territory. This resurgence coincides with the withdrawal of the UN mission, pushed out by the junta in power since 2020.
This resurgence is juxtaposed with persistent violence in the center and jihadist expansion to the north and east.
An army convoy made up of dozens of vehicles and armoured vehicles left Gao on Monday towards the Kidal region, a stronghold of the Tuareg rebellion. This movement fuels speculation about an offensive on Kidal, which could constitute a turning point after a decade of conflict.
Local sources reported Wednesday morning shooting in the Tarkint sector, on the route of the column.

The statement said that the hard boyz had orders from a bully boy commander, Sohail of the banned TTP to collect extortion and target some important personalities in the area. It added that during interrogation, the hard boyz revealed that two other hard boyz were also present in the area.
The statement said that Najmuddin and Ayaz Khan, both residents of Buner district, were also arrested, and arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from them.
The statement said that Ayaz Khan revealed during interrogation that he had attacked a Khateeb (prayer leader) and was also in contact with one Mufti Sajjad in Afghanistan via telegram.
The statement said that all the hard boyz had got training in Afghanistan and Kurram tribal district.
[Dawn] The police foiled an attack on the Kulachi cop shoppe here on Wednesday, forcing the snuffies to flee.
An official said that eight to 10 armed assailants attacked the cop shoppe around 11am. He said that the snuffies fired two rockets and also fired from automatic weapons on the building.
However, we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by... he said that as the coppers were already on high alert they retaliated to the attack forcefully, forcing the attackers to flee.
Immediately after the attack, a heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the site and cordoned off the area. No loss of life was reported.
The police also started a search operation in the area to arrest the terrorists.
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli military has closed off the Route 60 highway in the West Bank town of Huwara for Paleostinian motorists, following several incidents of stone-throwing toward Israelis earlier today.
In a message sent to residents of settlements in the Nablus area, local authorities say "Huwara is closed for Arab travel and open only for Jews."
Paleostinian media outlets say troops are preventing Paleostinians from traveling through the town. The road was reopened a few hours later.
Earlier today, Paleostinians hurled stones at Israeli motorists driving on Route 60 through Huwara, lightly injuring a 3-year-old girl in one case, according to the Rescuers Without Borders emergency service.
Huwara has long been a flashpoint in the West Bank, due to a main thoroughfare running through the town that is used regularly by Israelis to travel to and from settlements. There are plans to build a bypass road for settlers to avoid having to travel through the town, but work on this has dragged on for years.
The IDF says in a statement that it closed the highway to allow security forces to position themselves in Huwara "for the sake of maintaining the security of the residents and preventing friction" between Israelis and Paleosti

[IsraelTimes] IDF investigating incident near settlement of Ma’ale Levona; festivities break out between troops, Paleostinian rioters in Nablus as Jewish pilgrims visit Joseph’s Tomb shrine
A Paleostinian was reportedly shot after attacking a civilian Israeli vehicle in the West Bank late Wednesday night during festivities near the settlement of Ma’ale Levona, as fighting broke out in several areas of the territory overnight.
The Binyamin Regional Council, where the settlement is located, said an area resident had been driving with his family when they encountered large stones blocking a road.
When the vehicle reached the roadblock, Paleostinians surrounded the car, prevented it from moving and pelted it with stones. The driver fired at the Paleostinians with his personal weapon and managed to flee the scene. ... as though they had never been... the council said.
Paleostinian reports said one man had been maimed in the chest and taken to a hospital in Ramallah.
The Israel Defense Forces said that Paleostinians had thrown stones at civilian Israeli vehicles near the settlement, lightly injuring an Israeli woman. A driver whose car was damaged fired back at the attackers, the IDF said, adding that troops had been dispatched to the scene.
The IDF said it was checking into the reports that a Paleostinian had been maimed in the incident.
Also late Wednesday, festivities broke out between Paleostinians and IDF troops in the West Bank city of Nablus as Jewish pilgrims visited Joseph’s Tomb, a shrine in the city.
Dozens of Paleostinian rioters burned tires, threw Molotov cocktails and hurled improvised explosives at the IDF troops protecting the Jewish visitors.
The Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy medical service said a Paleostinian had been injured by a tear gas canister that hit him in the head.
Busloads of Orthodox Jews visit Joseph’s Tomb under IDF protection on a monthly basis, and the pilgrimages almost always spark violent mostly peacefulfestivities with Paleostinian locals.
The shrine, regarded by some as the final resting place of the biblical patriarch Joseph, is located inside Area A of the West Bank, which is officially under complete Paleostinian Authority control, though the Israeli military regularly enters, despite Paleostinian opposition.
The Paleostinian Authority police on Monday extracted five tourists who illegally entered Joseph’s Tomb, after they were attacked by an angry mob.
In a third overnight incident, near Qalqilya, Paleostinians threw a Molotov cocktail at an Israeli bus, causing no injuries. Two suspects were arrested.
Paleostinian reports also said IDF troops had entered the West Bank town of Tulkarm and that heavy gunfire had been heard in the area.

Israeli troops clashed with Paleostinian button men in a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Tulkarem on Thursday morning, with security forces reporting five Border Police officers hurt in the fighting, including three with serious wounds. Two Hamas bad boyz were potted in a separate incident.
According to a joint statement from the Israel Defense Forces and Border Police, soldiers exchanged fire with armed Paleostinians in the Tulkarem Camp overnight while carrying out an arrest raid, adding the festivities continued as forces left the area in the morning hours.
According to an initial probe, the five officers were hit by shrapnel from a hand grenade hurled by the forces themselves, seriously wounding three of them and moderately hurting the other two.
The grenade had been hurled by an officer toward Paleostinian button men but hit a metal gate and bounced back. Another officer managed to kick the grenade to the side, moments before it went kaboom!, according to the probe.
All five were evacuated to the hospital for treatment. One of the officers was in a critical condition and doctors at the Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba were fighting to save his life.
Police later published a video showing the exchanges of fire and the moment the grenade went kaboom!.
In an earlier statement, the IDF said Paleostinians set off a number of bombs near troops in Tulkarem.
The IDF also said troops hit a number of armed Paleostinians. There was no immediate information on the number of maimed Paleostinians and their conditions in Tulkarem.

Separately on Thursday morning, the IDF said Paleostinian button menshot up an Israeli motorist on a nearby highway, close to the settlement of Avnei Hefetz. Troops of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit chased after the two suspects, leading to an exchange of fire in which the IDF said the pair was "neutralized" near the entrance to the Paleostinian village of Shufa, southeast of Tulkarm. Soldiers seized an M-16 rifle and magazines found in the suspects’ car, according to the military.
The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said it was notified of the deaths of the two button men — Abdul Rahman Faris Muhammad Atta, 23, and Hudhayfah Adnan Muhammad Fares, 27 — indicating their bodies were being held by Israel.
The Hamas terror group later claimed the pair as members.
Violence has surged across the West Bank over the past year and a half, with a rise in Paleostinian shooting attacks against Israeli civilians and troops, near-nightly arrest raids by the military, and an uptick in Dire Revenge attacks by murderous Moslem Jewish settlers against Paleostinians.
