Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief October 5, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN AND PAKISTANI FORCES EXCHANGE FIRE AT BORDER – Reports of a cross-border exchange of fire between both Pakistani and Taliban border elements near the Chaman Spin Boldak crossing caused a temporary closure of the border today. At least 2 people were killed and another was wounded during the incident, both of those who died were Pakistani nationals and one was said to be a child. Pakistani authorities have called on the Taliban to hand over those responsible to face justice.

  • TALIBAN TELL PAKISTAN THE PLAN TO EVICT AFGHANS IS UNACCEPTABLE – The Taliban roared back at Pakistan over claims that Afghan nationals in Pakistan constituted a threat to national security and pointed to the decades that Afghans have resided in Pakistan without taking part in anti-government sentiment. The Taliban’s chief spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid called the threat of deportation…unacceptable. For its part, Pakistan pointed to those militants it has either killed or captured in recent attacks along the frontiers and claimed that over 35% of them were Afghan citizens. Both sides are making preparations to deport/receive the Afghans as plans have been announced to establish refugee camps in Afghanistan and committees are being formed in Pakistan to carry out the deportations.

  • AFGHAN EMBASSY IN NETHERLANDS OFFERS CONSULAR SERVICES – The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Afghan consulate in Amsterdam had reopened and was already assisting Afghan citizens in the Netherlands with consular functions. The consular section will be open Monday through Wednesday and Thursdays will be reserved for those Afghans who make appointments to be seen.

  • THE US WALKS A FINE LINE WITH BI-LATERAL RELATIONS WITH PAKISTAN OVER DEPORTATION THREATS – A State Department spokesman deflected questions over what the US was planning to do with regard to the threat of deporting Afghans from Pakistan on 1 November. At a briefing on Tuesday, the spokesman said only that “Pakistan has been an important partner when it has come to the resettlement of Afghans who are fleeing and looking to resettle.” The administration has made it clear that it would like to be free of the problem of the refugees but has also voiced a commitment to make good on promises to evacuate those with valid claims for asylum, parole, and special immigrant visas.

Afghan forces 'unprovoked' firing at Chaman border martyrs two civilians
[GEO.TV] Afghan cops Wednesday opened "unprovoked and indiscriminate" fire on pedestrians crossing the Chaman border and martyred two Pak civilians, including a child, the military's media wing said.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the unfortunate event took place at 4pm at the Friendship Gate of the border crossing along the Pakistain-Afghanistan border
...also known as Pashtunistan, home of ignorance, poverty, and automatic weapons...
in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
"The incident occurred at the outbound gate located on the zero line," the statement said, noting that two Pak citizens — including a 12-year-old — embraced martyrdom, while another child was injured.

In response, Pak troops exercised extreme restraint and avoided any exchange of fire in the presence of innocent passengers to avoid collateral damage, the ISPR statement said.

The Chaman border has been, over the years, repeatedly closed and then re-opened after Afghan forces resorted to such extreme measures, with the Pak side stressing restraint.

In today's statement, the ISPR said Islamabad has approached Kabul's authorities to inquire about the reason behind such an irresponsible and reckless act and to apprehend and hand over the culprit to Pak authorities.

The military said that the Afghan government is also expected to exercise control over its troops and impart discipline to act responsibly in order to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

"Pakistain remains committed to [contributing] towards peace, prosperity, and development through positive and constructive bilateral relations, however, such unpleasant occurrences have the potential to harm the sincere intent and purpose."

The bodies of the dear departed, meanwhile, have been shifted to the DHQ Hospital Chaman, and the injured child, who was immediately evacuated by security forces, is under treatment.

The development comes a day after Pakistain told hundreds of thousands of Afghans living illegally in Pakistain to leave voluntarily until November 1 or face deportation.

The attacks are believed to have been carried out by Kenyan warplanes, which often carry out attacks in areas and districts in the regions of Juba and Gedo.

Jubaland and the federal government of Somalia did not issue a statement regarding the airstrikes last night in the town of Buale, which serves as al-Shabaab’s biggest base in Somalia.

Kenyan troops are operating in Jubaland state as part of the AU mission in Somalia. On October 16th, 2011, Kenya Defence Forces moved into Southern Somalia to pursue the bully boy group Al-Shabaab after a series of kidnappings of tourists along the border.

Gunmen kidnap five Nigerian university students - police
[AFRICANEWS] Gunmen in Nigeria have kidnapped five female students from a university in the northwestern Katsina state. This marks the second such abduction of students in the region within a month.

Kidnappings for ransom by gangs are widespread in northwest Nigeria due to high levels of poverty, unemployment, and the proliferation of illegal firearms.

The incident occurred early on Wednesday at the Federal University in Dutsin-Ma town, as confirmed by Katsina police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq. The police are taking immediate action, deploying all available resources to ensure the safe rescue of the victims. Additionally, one suspect is already in jug.

This incident follows a similar abduction on September 22, when at least 24 female students were taken from their hostel at the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara state. Fortunately, 16 of them were successfully freed three days later during a rescue operation conducted by security forces.

According to the Levies force, the blast took place in Chaghi bazaar — at a distance of 60 kilometres from Dalbandin near the Pak-Afghan border — when a security forces vehicle was passing by.

Security forces have surrounded the area, while the maimed have been moved to Dalbandin hospital for medical treatment, Levies said.

The attack comes days after more than 60 people died in two separate suicide kabooms in Balochistan's Mastung and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Hangu city on September 29.

Meanwhile,

a patrolling post in the Kundal area of Punjab’s Mianwali district also came under attack by 10 to 12 snuffies on Sunday. One policeman was martyred as security forces successfully repelled the attack killing two terrorists.

Pakistain has witnessed a significant spike in the form of the recent wave of terrorist attacks across the country.

According to a statistical report released by the independent think tank Pakistain Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), at least 271 krazed killer attacks took place during the first half of 2023, resulting in the loss of 389 lives and injuring 656 individuals. Terror activities in the country soared by 79% during the period.

In light of the increase in attacks, Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced the November 1 deadline for the illegal "aliens", including Afghan illegal immigrants colonists, to leave the county voluntarily.

The caretaker interior minister revealed that Afghan nationals were responsible for 14 of the 24 suicide kabooms in the country this year.

Bugti said some 1.73 million Afghan nationals in Pakistain had no legal documents to stay, adding a total of 4.4 million Afghan refugees living in Pakistain.

"Safety and security of the people of Pakistain is the prime responsibility and foremost priority of the government," he said.

Iraq
Turkish airstrikes hit Kurdistan Region, prompting safety concerns
[Shafaq News] The Mawat District Administration in Sulaymaniyah Governorate announced on Wednesday that several areas were targeted in a series of Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s carried out by Ottoman Turkish warplanes.

The strikes, which occurred at 0700 pm, targeted three areas in Mawat District, according to Kamran Hassan, the Mayor of Mawat.

Although no human casualties have been reported, the repeated bombings have caused widespread panic among citizens, mainly due to the proximity of the airstrikes to residential areas.

A security source confirmed that the Ottoman Turkish aircraft conducted the aerial bombardment, targeting locations believed to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

This incident follows similar attacks on the same area on Tuesday, where Ottoman Turkish warplanes launched air strikes. The Ottoman Turkish Defense Ministry grabbed credit for these operations.

The Ministry had earlier revealed details of a substantial air operation conducted in the Kurdistan Region, which destroyed 20 sites associated with the PKK.

Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during a presser in Ankara, declared that all infrastructure, superstructure, and energy facilities affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party in Iraq and Syria have become legitimate targets for Ottoman Turkish forces.

Fidan's statement came after a recent terrorist attack in Ankara, which he claimed was orchestrated by individuals trained in Syria.

In the Ankara attack, two gunnies targeted the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Interior. One assailant detonated an bomb while security forces neutralized the other. Two Ottoman Turkish security personnel sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) later grabbed credit for the attack.

Turkish artillery strikes on PKK targets near Duhok raise concerns
[Shafaq News] A security source reported on Wednesday that Ottoman Turkish artillery conducted military strikes on locations belonging to Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members in the village of "Sikiri", located on the slopes of Mount "Meteen" overlooking the Amedi district in the northern Duhok governorate. Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Fat Tony demanded his rosco back. He didn't say please...
villagers expressed their fear of the ongoing shelling.

The source explained that "the shelling resulted in fires in the farmlands of the village, and we do not have precise details about the losses incurred by these attacks."

The source added that "Ottoman Turkish forces established a new military base a week ago on the summit of Mount Meteen in the area of Surê Sikiri after violent mostly peaceful festivities erupted between PKK murderous Moslems and Ottoman Turkish forces in this region."

Residents of the village of "Sikiri" expressed their "concerns about the continuous escalation of Ottoman Turkish shelling targeting the vicinity of their village every day."

Bashir Sikiri, one of the village residents, told Shafaq News Agency, "The mutual shelling between PKK murderous Moslems and the Ottoman Turkish army has greatly impacted the locals. We cannot go to our farms, and we cannot raise our livestock. We are completely trapped."

Sadiq Nahili added, "The village has become almost deserted due to the shelling, with only three families remaining. Just two days ago, a shell fell near our house, luckily, no one was injured, but this incident caused fires in our orchards and farms."

Dozens of terrorists killed in Syrian offensive in Idlib province
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Dozens of foreign-sponsored Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
holy warriors have been killed and maimed after Syrian army forces carried out a string of military operations against terrorist bases and arms depots in the northwestern province of Idlib.

Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing a statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Defense on Tuesday, reported that the strikes were in retaliation for the recent terrorist attacks on the positions of Syrian army troops and government-held towns.

The statement said the operations destroyed the headquarters and weapons caches of members of the so-called Ansar al-Tawhid (Supporters of Monotheism) Takfiri group.

Dozens of terrorists, among them high-profile commanders, were among the fatalities, it added.

Syrian government troops also intercepted and shot down two combat drones operated by holy warriors over an area in the neighboring Aleppo province.

The operation came after Russia’s Defense Ministry warned that members of Takfiri terrorist outfits were planning to stage attacks in Syria’s northwestern provinces of Latakia, Idlib and Aleppo against the positions of Syrian and Russian military forces.

Deputy Chief of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria Major General Oleg Yegorov said on Tuesday that the center had received information that the Death Eaters were set to carry out the assaults.

He said Russian and Syrian forces would adopt proper measures to repel the attacks.
