Taliban Seize Wedding Musicians’ Drums After Assaulting Ceremony in Zabul Province

Reports emerging from Zabul province indicate that following an attack on a wedding ceremony, Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters have confiscated the drums of female musicians, subjecting them to humiliation and degradation.

Sources have provided details to Hasht-e Subh, stating that this incident transpired on the evening of Friday, August 5th, within the city of Qalat, the center of Zabul.

The Taliban fighters not only forcefully seized the drums used by the female musicians but also carried out aggressive acts against several attendees, resulting in injuries to one individual.

Local Taliban officials have refrained from making any statements regarding these events thus far.

In recent times, the Taliban’s campaign against wedding ceremonies held in hotels and private residences has escalated.

Over the past two days, the Taliban’s enforcers of virtue and prevention of vice have launched attacks on wedding ceremonies and women’s beauty salons, which operate within homes, in the provinces of Ghazni and Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
. These assaults have resulted in the brutal mistreatment of participants, including a bride and a female beautician.

Former Soldier Succumbs to Multiple Torture by Taliban: A Tragic Tale from Badakhshan

Local sources in Badakhshan have reported the tragic demise of a former soldier due to enduring multiple instances of torture inflicted by the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
within this province.

According to sources on Sunday, August 6th, the individual identified as Faraidoon hailed from the Jerm district in Badakhshan.

These sources reveal that over the course of the past eight months, Faraidoon were tossed into the calaboose and subjected to torture on four separate occasions by the Taliban. These brutal acts were carried out under the pretext of his alleged collaboration with the former government.

As per the information provided by these sources, in the most recent case, Faraidoon was apprehended by the Taliban just two weeks ago. After enduring excruciating torture, he was eventually released from captivity with the intervention of tribal elders. Regrettably, despite surviving the torment, his kidneys had suffered irreversible damage.

Additional information from these sources underscores that Faraidoon had previously served as a local police officer for five years under the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the previous government.

It is crucial to note that the detention, torture, and even killing of former military personnel by the Taliban is a recurring tragedy. The group has consistently targeted and subjected former government soldiers to various pretexts for torture, and in some instances, they have resorted to outright murder.

Foreigners, Including Americans, Detained for Various Issues: Mujahid
Caliphate, emirate, sultanate, mullacracy — all carry on the ancient tradition of kidnap for fun and profit.
[ToloNews] The Islamic Emirate’s front man, Zabiullah Mujahid, said that some foreign nationals including Americans have been detained on charge of various issues including security issues.

Mujahid told TOLOnews that the decision about the detainees will be made by the interim government after the investigation of their cases is completed.

The detainees will be released if they are proved innocent, Mujahid said, without providing details about the exact numbers of the detainees.

"The people who are suspicious of being involved in security issues or issues which are against our law, and law of living in Afghanistan, have been detained. We investigate and see how many of them were criminals. If they were not proven criminals, they will be released but if they are criminals, then we will seek a solution," he said.

Political and military analysts said that the foreign nationals should be released based on the court’s decision.

"Every foreign national who travels to a second country, he/she is obliged to obey the law of that country. If the foreigners are detained in Afghanistan, they should be treated based on Afghan law," said Zalmai Afghanyar, political analyst.

"The release of foreigners who are in detention of the Islamic Emirate, should be based on a gesture. This will begin a positive engagement with the countries whose citizens are detained here," said Samar Sadaat, political analyst.

Earlier, the US Department of State said that the American officials in their meeting with the delegation of the Islamic Emirate in Doha, had discussed the issue of American detainees in addition to various other matters.

Daily Evacuation Brief August 7, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • HOUSE SEARCHES REPORTED IN SEVERAL NORTHERN KABUL NEIGHBORHOODS – Intensive search efforts have been reported across several of the neighborhoods in Northern Kabul over the past 24 hours. Unlike in previous search efforts, Taliban security forces are not searching for people but seem to be looking for documents or technology. It is not clear what has prompted the recent search effort and there has been no information provided about how long the searches will continue. As of publication time, there has been no word of any arrests that may have resulted from the searches.

  • RECENT US/TALIBAN TALKS POSSIBLY BEARING SOME FRUIT – Taliban officials announced the establishment of a new Economic Commission on Saturday and sources in Kabul say the new body was formed in answer to criticisms by US officials during the recent round of talks in Doha. The US and both of the major international financial institutions (IMF and World Bank) have criticized the lack of expertise and transparency in the banking and finance sector. A senior source said that senior Taliban leaders believed the establishment of the new commission would allow the Taliban officials who serve in leadership roles at the Central Bank to continue in their roles while satisfying the international community’s concerns.

  • FORMER AFGHANISTAN PRESIDENT, ASHRAF GHANI, PLANS TO GIVE A SPEECH ON THE SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY TODAY – Several social media sites have indicated that the former President plans to address the situation in Afghanistan at 0900hrs local time (Kabul). It is not clear what platform the former President will use and what has prompted his remarks.

  • AT SOME POINT, PAKISTAN MUST PROVIDE DEFINITIVE EVIDENCE THAT TERROR ATTACKS IN THE COUNTRY COME FROM AFGHANISTAN – Pakistan continues to implicate Afghanistan in terror attacks that are taking place in the country. While most are apt to believe the announcements that come from Islamabad, Pakistani leaders would have a much stronger case if they were able to provide more public evidence to back up these claims. It is possible that such evidence is consistently circulated among Pakistan’s allies and shared with the Taliban, but international observers are not privy to these exchanges, and very little evidence has been uncovered by the press.

NEXT 24 HOURS
SEARCHES MAY CONTINUE IN NORTHERN KABUL – Without definitive information regarding the purpose of the recent search operations, it is logical to assume they may continue. At-risk Afghans residing in these neighborhoods should be prepared to have their homes searched should Taliban security forces arrive on their streets.

Dozens missing after migrant boat sinks off Italian coast
There are so many, it’s almost like this is a new edition of “The Marching Morons”.
[AFRICANEWS] At least 30 migrants colonists are missing following two shipwrecks off the Italian island of Lampedusa.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) on Sunday said survivors had reported that around 28 people were lost at sea on one boat, while three were said to be missing from the second, following stormy weather on Saturday.

Both flimsy iron boats are believed to have set off from Sfax in Tunisia on Thursday.

An investigation into the shipwrecks has been opened in Agrigento in Sicily.

On Sunday rescue teams were also preparing to pull about 20 migrants colonists to safety after they were trapped on a rocky part of Lampedusa's coastline.

The migrants colonists had been there since late Friday, after their boat was tossed onto the rocks by strong winds.

The number of bodies recovered has increased, in particular on the so-called Tunisian route, which has become increasingly dangerous partly due to the type of boats used.

Sub-Saharan migrants colonists are being put out to sea by traffickers in iron boats which cost less than wooden ones but are often regarded as unseaworthy and break up.

Moslem colonists Migrants also often have the engines stolen from their boats at sea, so traffickers can re-use them.
Dawn adds:
The bodies of 10 migrants colonists have been found on a beach in Tunisia, near the city of Sfax which has seen a spike this year in Europe-bound sea crossings, authorities said on Sunday.

"Ten bodies have been found over the past 48 hours by coasties units" north of Sfax in Tunisia’s centre-east, the national guard said in a statement.

Sfax court front man Faouzi Masmoudi said it had been informed of the discovery of "eight bodies, all apparently sub-Saharan Africans" and Sherlocks were working to identify them.

The dead migrants colonists were "found between Friday and Saturday" during a windstorm that had possibly sunk their boat, Masmoudi said but noted no reported shipwrecks off Sfax. They may have embarked from another area along Tunisia’s coast, the front man added.

Italia’s coastguard released dramatic footage Sunday of the rescues, in which people could be seen carried high on the crests of vast waves, while a coastguard vessel soared and plunged nearby. While some people tried to climb onto the vessel as it rocked, others, wearing black rubber rings, clung desperately to one another in a human chain.

’CRIMINAL LUNATIC’
An investigation into the shipwrecks has been opened in Agrigento, on the nearby Italian island of Sicily. Agrigento’s chief of police Emanuele Ricifari said the traffickers would have known bad weather was forecast. "Whoever allowed them, or forced them, to leave with this sea is an unscrupulous criminal lunatic," he told Italian media. "Rough seas are forecast for the next few days. Let’s hope they stop. It’s sending them to slaughter with this sea," he said.

According to the North African country’s interior ministry, 901 bodies had been recovered this year by July 20 following maritime accidents in the Mediterranean Sea, and 34,290 others had been rescued or intercepted. Most of them came from sub-Saharan African countries, it said.

The distance between Sfax and Italia’s Lampedusa island is only about 130 kilometres.

Nearly 90,000 migrants colonists have arrived in Italia this year, according to UN figures. Most of them embarked from Tunisia or neighbouring Libya, said the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

MEDITERRANEAN ROUTE
The central Mediterranean migrant crossing from North Africa to Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
is the world’s deadliest with more than 20,000 fatalities since 2014, according to the International Organisation for Migration.

Crossing attempts have multiplied in March and April following an incendiary speech by President Kais Saied who had alleged that "hordes" of sub-Saharan migrants colonists were causing crime and posing a demographic threat to the mainly Arab country.

Xenophobic attacks targeting black African migrants colonists and students have increased across the country since Saied’s February remarks, and many migrants colonists have lost jobs and housing.

Niger junta seeks Wagner support as ECOWAS deadline approaches
[AFRICANEWS] Niger’s new military junta has asked for help from the Russian mercenary group Wagner as a deadline approaches for it to release the country’s ousted president.

One the coup leaders General Salifou Mody made the request while visiting neighbouring Mali.

Niger’s junta faces a 6 August deadline set by the regional bloc known as ECOWAS to release and reinstate the democratically elected President Mohammed Bazoum, who has described himself as a hostage.

Demonstrations have taken place; some in support and some against the coup as international pressure on the junta increases.

Niger has been seen as the West’s last reliable counterterrorism partner in a region where coups have been common in recent years.

Foreign nationals have been leaving the country over the past week, mainly on French military aircraft.

Juntas have rejected former coloniser La Belle France and turned towards Russia. Wagner already operates in a handful of African countries, including Mali.

It remains unclear what the international community's response would be to Wagner's involvement in Niger.

While some in Niger are bracing for a fight, others are trying to cope with travel and economic sanctions imposed by ECOWAS after the coup that have closed land and air borders with ECOWAS countries and suspended commercial and financial transactions with them.

Residents said the price of goods is rising and there’s limited access to cash.

Local tribes push UAE mercenaries out of military camp at Bab al-Mandab coastline
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sana’a government, Hussein al-Ezzi, commented on Saturday on the military developments in the Bab al-Mandab strait.

Al-Ezzi published a picture on his Twitter account, commenting on it by saying: "Al-Sabiha fighters salute the people from Bab al-Mandab and force the Mocha mercenaries and dealers of ’shabu’ and drugs to reposition."

This comment comes after the al-Sabiha tribes forced Tariq Saleh’s UAE mercenary forces to withdraw from a camp that was created in Bab al-Mandab.

i media sources reported.

According to the media sources, the Saudi authorities earlier deported the famous southern Yemeni YouTuber Badr Saleh, although he was born in Saudi Arabia. Saleh appeared in the city of Aden after being forcibly deported to Yemen.

It’s still unknown why Saudi authorities have deported Bad Saleh, since he worked in several Saudi TV channels, most notably MBC.

His deportation coincides with the escalation of media campaigns between the Saudi ambassador and southern Yemeni whistleblowers, who are opposing Saudi policies in Aden.

It also indicates that his deportation is a part of collective punishment practiced by Riyadh to silence voices opposed to the policy of its ambassador.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Zelimkhan Mazaev convicted in terrorism financing case
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The court sentenced Zelimkhan Mazaev, a native of Chechnya, to eight years in prison, finding him guilty of financing a militant's trip to Syria. Mazaev was previously suspected of organizing the murder of Sulim Yamadayev, the former commander of the Vostok battalion.
The Vostok battalion was a Spetsnaz unit that fought the post-Soviet, Al Qaeda-linked Republic of Ichkeria, which in 2007 became the Caucasus Emirate. Then in 2015, following the latest fad in the jihadi world, most of them switched their allegiance to ISIS as Vilayat Kavkaz and promptly decamped for the relative safety of Syria, where they could conquer for the glory of Allah instead of being hunted down and killed by the Spetsnaz— or worse, spend years on trial in the Russian courts.
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, in September 2022, Zelimkhan Mazaeva, a native of Chechnya, was accused of organizing a militant group. On March 16, it became known that his charges were reduced.

On January 9, 2017, it became known that the Lefortovo Court of Moscow found Mazaev guilty of robbery and sentenced him to six years in a penal colony, and three other defendants to five years in prison.
So many jihadis spend their off hours engaging in robbery, fraud, and rape for fun and profit — boring criminals rather than noble lions of Islam. And now that Mr. Mazaev has finished his robbery prison sentence, he can go right back in for financing terrorists.
Mazaev and three of his alleged accomplices were detained in February 2015 in Moscow on  suspicion of robbery  against two men. According to investigators, the men were beaten and robbed, they were threatened with an object that looked like a gun.
Is that a hint that he was not man enough to have the real thing?
A court in Moscow sentenced 42-year-old Zelimkhan Mazayev to eight years in prison, finding him guilty of recruiting and inciting terrorist activities, Kavkaz.Realii reported on August 5.

The 2nd Western District Military Court considered the prosecution's version proven that he financed the militant's trip to Syria in April 2014, Kommersant reported.

Recall that earlier the investigation put forward the version that Mazaev financed the sending of two residents of Chechnya to Syria - Adam Sugaipov and Yuni Murdiev. Both were detained in 2017 at Krasnodar airport when they failed to answer questions about the purpose of their trip to Turkey. During interrogation at the FSB, they confessed that they were going to Syria.

Sugaipov and Murdiev were accused of preparing to participate in the activities of a terrorist organization and were sentenced by a court to seven and eight years in prison. As part of the pre-trial agreements they concluded, they named their alleged sponsors, including Zelimkhan Mazaev.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that in 2009 Mazaev became one of the suspects in the murder of the former commander of the "Vostok" battalion, Sulim Yamadayev, who was shot dead in Dubai.
...an action of Caucasus Emirate.
For the murder of Yamadayev, the former groom of the head of Chechnya, Iranian Mahdi Lornia and a citizen of Tajikistan, businessman Maksujon Ismatov, were accused in the UAE. On April 12, 2010, a court in Dubai sentenced them  to life  imprisonment. The defendants declared their innocence.

On December 22, 2010, the Dubai Court of Appeal commuted life imprisonment to 27 months in prison. In July 2011, they  were released  from a Dubai prison and deported from the UAE.

Turkish airstrike reportedly hits PKK targets in Sulaimani province: Sources
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s reportedly targeted the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Sulaimani province’s Aghjalar subdistrict on Sunday, sources told Rudaw amid contradictory reports surrounding the incident.

A source familiar with the incident, who chose to speak on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that a Ottoman Turkish strike targeted the PKK in Aghjalar on Sunday morning.

Hemin Bahjat, mayor of Aghjalar, told Rudaw English on Sunday that authorities were contacted about a fire in the nearby village of Chnartu, and that he is unaware of any attack having taken place. "We did not find any remnants of vehicles or casualties," he stated, adding that the fire had been extinguished. "We have no extra information," the mayor said.

The Erbil-based Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) released a statement on Sunday afternoon claiming a Ottoman Turkish drone targeted a vehicle belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), killing an official, near Aghjalar. The statement added that another fighter was injured.

Aghjalar is a subdistrict of Chamchamal in Sulaimani province.

Rojnews, a media outlet affiliated to the PKK, cited unknown sources claiming that Ottoman Turkish drones bombarded Chnartu village, without mentioning any casualties.

Neither The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
nor the PKK have made any official comments.

Rudaw’s news hound Peshawa Bakhtyar spoke to villagers and locals of Aghjalar who said they had heard a loud noise, similar to that of a strike, adding that planes were heard flying above overnight.

The Sulaimani-based Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) Counter Terrorism Group (CTG) has not released any comment about the incident.

Last year in May, Ottoman Turkish drones targeted a vehicle in Aghjalar, killing five passengers, including at least two PKK members, Bahjat told Rudaw at the time. A month later, Ottoman Turkish state media reported that Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency (MIT) was behind the attack, claiming a commander of the gang was killed.

Ottoman Turkish officials have repeatedly accused Sulaimani authorities of supporting the PKK. Ottoman Turkish forces often carry out aerial attacks in the province on the grounds of targeting the PKK.

A flight ban on Sulaimani International Airport by Turkey has been in place since April 3. The Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry has said that the ban, which is to remain in effect until January, is related to the alleged "intensification" of PKK activity in Sulaimani.

Hamas sentences 7 Gazans to death by hanging for ‘collaboration’ with Israel

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. Strip on Sunday sentenced seven people to death by hanging for "collaboration" with Israel, the coastal enclave’s Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run interior ministry said.

The court also sentenced seven others to "life imprisonment with hard labor," which in Gaza amounts to 25 years, the ministry said in a statement.

Regarding those sentenced to death, the court said they had provided information to Israel on terror groups in Gaza — including names, phone numbers, addresses and weapons caches — in return for money, the Maan News agency reported. One of the defendants was allegedly given a permit to work in Israel in return for information he provided.

The terror group Hamas controls Gaza, and the military court there has regularly issued death sentence

s for people found guilty of "collaboration" with Israel.

Under Paleostinian law, a death sentence requires the approval of the president of the Paleostinian Authority, which is headquartered in the West Bank.

But since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 it has repeatedly ignored this, and last September executed two Paleostinians for "collaboration" with Israel as well as three others for murder.

In April, two people were sentenced to death and four others were given life sentences on the same charges of collaborating with Israel.

At least 17 death sentences were issued in 2022 in the Gaza Strip.

Troops kill 3 Palestinian gunmen en route to carry out attack near Jenin – IDF
[IsraelTimes] Defense officials say ambush intercepted terror cell that was headed from refugee camp in northern West Bank toward nearby settlement

Three Paleostinian button men allegedly en route to carry out a terror attack were ambushed and killed by Israeli forces near the West Bank city of Jenin on Sunday afternoon, defense officials said.

According to a joint statement by the Israel Defense Forces, Border Police, and Shin Bet security service, the cell set out from the Jenin refugee camp before being ambushed by forces near the town of Arrabeh, south of Jenin.

Footage published by Paleostinian media showed Israeli troops opening fire at a vehicle numerous times.

The Shin Bet named the head of the cell as Naif Abu Suias, 26, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp.

The agency said Suias was a "prominent military operative... who was involved in military activity against our forces and in advancing military activity directed by terror elements from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. Strip."

The other two button men were identified by Paleostinian media as Lu’ayy Abu Na’asa and Baraa Ahmed Qurum.

In their car, Israeli troops found an assault rifle. Their bodies were being held by Israeli authorities.

IDF front man Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said the cell was heading to carry out a drive-by shooting attack against Israeli civilians in the area of the West Bank settlement of Mevo Dotan, and that the forces had "removed a real and immediate threat."

"There was an alert, we were prepared and therefore we also achieved a quick result. This is a targeted and surgical operation in which intelligence is the main enabler, together with very fast flexibility of the IDF and the operational units," Hagari told news hounds.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria says four soldiers killed in alleged Israeli airstrike on Damascus
[IsraelTimes] Another four maimed and property damage reported in first apparent strike since July 19; state TV claims missile defense batteries knocked down some Israeli missiles

Israeli air strikes targeted areas in and near Damascus early Monday, killing four Syrian soldiers, the country’s official media said early Monday.

Another four soldiers were maimed in the alleged Israeli sortie at around 2:20 a.m. and there was unspecified property damage, Syria’s state-run SANA media outlet.

"The aggression led to the death of four soldiers, the wounding of four others and some material losses," SANA quoted a military official saying.

An AFP correspondent in the capital reported hearing the sound of explosions, and footage shared online appeared to show bright flashes lighting up the sky, either from missile strikes or air defense projectiles.

In one unverified video, seemingly taken from near the targeted site, at least six explosions could be heard as jets screamed overhead and a fireball lit up the night sky.

SANA said Syrian air defenses managed to knock down "some" of the Israeli missiles.

Syria regularly claims to intercept Israeli projectiles, though military analysts doubt such assertions.

There was no immediate reaction from Israel, which as a rule does not comment on specific strikes but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country, over the last decade. It also says it attacks arms shipments believed to be bound for Hezbollah and similar groups.

The attack would be the first alleged Israeli sortie over Syria since July 19, when fighter jets reportedly carried out strikes against targets in Damascus, wounding two soldiers.

UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman also issue Lebanon travel warnings
[An Nahar] Bahrain has called on its citizens to leave Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. , meanwhile called on Qataris in Lebanon to "observe caution and vigilance, stay away from the areas that are witnessing the current incidents, and abide by the instructions issued by the competent local authorities."

The UAE for its part reminded its citizens of the travel ban that has been in effect for years.

Kuwait and Oman have also issued similar travel warnings.

Bahrain's Foreign Ministry said Bahrainis should abide by the government's previous decisions to avoid travel to Lebanon.

The Saudi embassy in Beirut posted a statement late Friday night on X, formerly known as Twitter, calling on its citizens to avoid going to areas where there are "armed conflicts" and also to leave Lebanon quickly.

The four days of fighting in Ain el-Helweh camp near the southern port city of Sidon has left 13 people dead and dozens maimed.
