Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief July 2, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • ANOTHER PAKISTANI RAID NEAR THE BORDER KILLS 6 – Pakistani Army forces launched another round of raids in the Tank and North Waziristan Districts on Friday and both resulted in sizeable gun battles with militants. The clashes resulted in a total of 6 militants killed but did not say which organizations they were from and how many were killed in each engagement. Both operations were conducted close to the border with Afghanistan and weapons and ammunition that was recovered are thought to have originated from within Afghanistan.

  • US PRESIDENT’S REMARKS HAILED BY TALIBAN AS ‘REDEMPTIVE’ – Most Afghanistan observers expected the press to lambast President Biden for the controversial remarks he made upon receiving questions about the recent State Department report. In a comment made ‘off the cuff’, he claimed that Al Qaeda was no longer present in Afghanistan. Critics immediately jumped on the comments and dredged up recent analysis from the United Nations and other agencies that allege Al Qaeda not only continues to operate in Afghanistan but in an unfettered capacity. However, the Taliban also seized on the comments and used them to make a case that it was fulfilling its international obligations with regard to terrorism and ought to be credited for its actions. It's not clear what actions they may be referring to, as the regime recently appointed several Al Qaeda leaders to senior leadership positions.

  • JUNE WAS ANOTHER BLOODY MONTH FOR PAKISTAN – Analysis of terrorist actions carried out by the TTP in June reveals that nearly 160 soldiers were killed and/or wounded during the month. While the casualties incurred in May were slightly higher (206 killed/wounded), the latest figures are not being taken as a sign that the rest of 2023 will be less violent. However, the ongoing relocation of suspected TTP sympathizers from areas adjacent to the Durand Line could have an impact on the organization’s viability over the rest of the year and casualties may continue to fall. A bright spot in Pakistan’s war against terror has been its success in targeting senior TTP Commanders recently. Intelligence gathering operations have successfully produced timely and actionable information which has allowed counter-terrorism forces to deal with leaders of the terror group much more effectively. While it is not publicly discussed, there are suspicions that the Taliban in Afghanistan may be cooperating with Pakistan on at least a limited basis. It's no secret that the TTP has become a bit of a thorn in the side of Kabul as it seeks to increase trade and economic cooperation with its neighbor to the East.

Al-Shabaab targets mosque in Somalia
[Garowe] Al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
bandidos bully boyz on Friday targeted a mosque in Somalia, the latest in the wave of attacks which have been activated by the bandidos bully boyz across the Horn of Africa nation, which has been struggling with instability for the last decade.

The attack, reports show, targeted a mosque in Daru-nimca area within Middle Shabelle, with photos from the site showing that the building was completely dismantled. The bandidos bully boyz took responsibility for the devastating attack.

According to state media, nobody was injured during the attack, but the impact was huge and equally destructive. The attack was the first in as many days following vigilance which was activated a few days ago in the country to neutralize the krazed killers.

"Al-Shabaab had previously targeted a large mosque in the Bula-Burde district of the Hiraan region, the Qayyib mosque, and the Bahdo mosque in the Galgaduud region. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the security forces protected the mosques. Other mosques in their areas were closed off to prevent people from gathering and learning," as reported by SNTV.

The group has been targeting innocent civilians, security forces and senior government officials in the past, leaving questions about the country's preparedness in taking over security responsibilities. The African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] is set to drawdown troops in the country.

Somalia is set for also initiate the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab in the country. The al-Shabaab controls large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia, but the government troops have managed to reclaim several areas so far.

Why is Al-Shabaab increasing terrorist attacks in Kenya?
[Garowe] In recent weeks, the al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
forces of Evil have gone rampage in northeastern Kenya, with the forces of Evil targeting members of security forces through Improvised Explosive Devices [IEDs], a significant increase from the past according to security experts.

Throughout the same period, senior government officials led by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and his Defence counterpart Aden Duale, have visited security officers in the Frontline, while encouraging them to continue defending the country from al-Shabaab aggression.

But according to experts who spoke to The Star, the surge is informed by ongoing crackdown against the forces of Evil in several parts of Somalia, with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud now targeting Jubaland and Southwest states. The first phase focused on Galmadug and HirShabelle, leaving over 3,000 forces of Evil dead.

So far, more than 30 people, the majority of them security officials have been killed in separate attacks by the terrorist group near the Kenya-Somalia border. The campaign in Somalia has displaced many of the Death Eaters who escaped to Kenya.

According to intelligence reports, the group has been arriving in Kenya in small numbers, vanishing into local community while at the border. After a lull of almost eight months, the first attack was reported in Mandera on May 2, 2023.

Also, low morale among soldiers in Frontline is said to be another contributing factor. This multi-agency security team has been flushing the forces of Evil in Lamu and Northern Frontier Districts of Wajir, Garissa and Mandera for several years now .

Some of the officers say they have not received the stipends they used to get, the Star reports. This stopped after the new government announced cuts in various financial commitment departments. Plans are underway to return the money to the officers on the ground, sources said.

Furthermore, the change of guard in Kenya staggered security operations across the country. President William Ruto came to power last year and changed security chiefs including the military, police and intelligence.

Insiders believe the terror group is opposed to plans to reopen the Kenya-Somalia border and hence wants to increase the attacks to force the authorities to stop the same. The terror group wants to continue collecting taxes on contraband goods coming to Kenya.

"They know once the border is reopened they will lose the money they collect from contraband goods. They are increasing the attacks to force the halting of the plans to open the border," said an official aware of the trend.

But to tame the forces of Evil from wreaking havoc in the country, the government is now embracing local, elders, scholars and other influential members of the society to help in identifying hideouts of the forces of Evil for actions.

The al-Shabaab has lost significant territories in central and southern Somalia, with Kenya Defence Forces taking part in the operations.

11 killed in east DR Congo attack
[Al Ahram] Militants have killed at least 11 people in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, officials said on Saturday, in the latest attack to hit the turbulent region.

The attack occurred on Friday in the village of Mutuey, and the surrounding area, in Ituri province's Irumu territory, according to village chief Adidas Mupitapilipo.

Militants from the Islamist-aligned Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed 13 people, he said, adding that only 11 bodies could be recovered.

AFP was unable to independently confirm the details of the attack.

A security official in the area, who asked not to be named, also said that ADF fighters had killed 11 people in Mutuey.

A local Red Thingy official likewise said the ADF had killed 11 people.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group claims the ADF as its central African affiliate. It is one of the deadliest militias in eastern Congo, accused of slaughtering thousands of civilians.

Congolese army front man for military operations in Ituri, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, confirmed that an ADF attack had occurred in the area but said he had no information about the number of people killed.

Armed groups have plagued mineral-rich eastern DRC for three decades, a legacy of regional wars that flared in the 1990s and 2000s.

Explosions at ammunition depot in Aden
by Emad Almarshahi

Violent explosions on Saturday shook the Sha’ab area in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalitions factions.

According to local sources, the explosions took place in an ammunition depot belonging to the Security Belt Forces affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), in the Sha’ab Camp, without recording casualties.

The sources attributed the causes of the explosion, which occurred in one of the weapons depots, to a short circuit.

The explosions caused a state of panic and terror among the people near the camp, one of the sources said, adding that shell fragments flew from the scene to various areas, but no injuries have been reported among citizens so far.

This comes after a number of cultural and societal components in Aden demanded the removal of the coalition factions’ camps from the city.

Europe
France Riot: President Macron Cancels Foreign Trip
[TWITTER]

More than 1,300 people were arrested in La Belle France during a fourth night of rioting and President Emmanuel Macron cancelled a trip to Germany on Saturday as the funeral took place of teenager, Nahel M, whose shooting by police sparked nationwide unrest.

Macron’s government deployed 45,000 coppers as well as armoured vehicles overnight to tackle the worst crisis to face his leadership since the "Yellow Vest" protests which brought much of La Belle France to a standstill in late 2018, Rooters reports.

The French president postponed a state visit to Germany that was due to begin on Sunday.

The interior ministry said on Twitter that 1,311 people had been arrested overnight, compared with 875 the previous night, although described the violence as "lower in intensity".

Finance minister Bruno Le Maire said more than 700 shops supermarkets, restaurants and bank branches had been "ransacked, looted and sometimes even burnt to the ground since Tuesday".

Local authorities all over the country announced bans on demonstrations and ordered public transport to stop running in the evening.

Nahel,
...a precocious known wolf who had a long history of this kind of thing...
a 17-year-old of Algerian and Moroccan descent, was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop on Tuesday in the Gay Paree suburb of Nanterre.

Several hundred people lined up to enter Nanterre’s grand mosque, which was guarded by volunteers in yellow vests, while a few dozen bystanders watched the funeral from across the street. Some of the mourners, their arms crossed, said "God is Greatest" in Arabic, as they spanned the boulevard in prayer.

Salsabil, a young woman of Arab descent, told Rooters that she had come to express support for Nahel’s family. “I think it’s important we all stand together," she said.

Marie, 60, said she had lived in Nanterre for 50 years and there had always been problems with the police.

"This absolutely needs to stop. The government is completely disconnected from our reality," she said.

The shooting of the teenager, caught on video, has reignited longstanding complaints by poor and racially mixed urban communities of police violence and racism. Macron had denied there is systemic racism in French law enforcement agencies.

"If you have the wrong skin colour, the police are much more dangerous to you," said a young man, who declined to be named, adding that he was a friend of Nahel’s.

Rioters have torched 2,000 vehicles since the start of the unrest, which have spread to cities such as Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
, Strasbourg and Lille.

More than 200 coppers have been injured, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said, adding that the average age of those arrested was 17. Justice Minister Eric Dupont-Moretti said 30% of the people arrested were under 18.

Friday night’s arrests included 80 people in Marseille, home to many people of North African descent.

Social media images showed a kaboom rocking the old port area of the southern city, but no casualties were reported.

Rioters in La Belle France’s second-largest city had looted a gun store and stole hunting rifles, but no ammunition, police said.

Mayor Benoit Payan called on the government to send extra troops to tackle "pillaging and violence" in Marseille, where three coppers were slightly maimed on Saturday.

In Lyon, La Belle France’s third-largest city, police deployed armoured personnel carriers and a helicopter, while in Gay Paree, they cleared protesters from the Place de la Concorde. Lyon Mayor Gregory Doucet has also called for reinforcements.

Border Patrol Agents Cut Texas Border Barrier, Let Migrants Enter U.S.
[Breitbart] A video provided to Fox News shows a Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agent appearing to cut a Texas-erected razor-wire border barrier. After opening the barrier, the agent allowed multiple migrants to enter the U.S. freely.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin tweeted a video that appears to show a Border Patrol agent cutting a razor-wire border barrier on private property near Eagle Pass, Texas. The state of Texas erected the barrier with the permission of the land owner to deter or turn back migrants attempting to enter the United States illegally.

Melugin said an unnamed source provided the video showing what is believed to be the first time a Border Patrol agent has cut the Texas-erected barrier built under Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star border security mission.

Not only does the Texas Department of Public Safety have permission from the land owner to erect the barrier along the edge of their property, but the State also has permission to arrest migrants who cross the barrier for criminal trespass, DPS officials told Melugin.

Turnout rises, several arrested as anti-overhaul protests enter 26th week
[IsraelTimes] Organizers estimate some 150,000 at central rally in Tel Aviv as government advances legislative push; 2 arrested when demonstrators block city’s main highway
Assume they’re exaggerating on the order of 50% is my WAG based on the history of claims for astroturf protests against democratically elected governments in the West. After all, these protests are being run by professional “activists” with international connections and sponsored by the US State Department. Oddly enough, the organizers — the Movement for Quality Government (MQG), which called itself V15 when the Obama State Department hired it to agitate against Bibi Netanyahu when he was running for reelection in 2015 — hasn’t been mentioned in news reports for ages. These days it’s the Israeli army veteran group Brothers and Sisters in Arms that rushes the microphones at every protest.
Israel’s 26th weekend of nationwide protests against the government’s efforts to shake up the judiciary drew thousands to rallies across the country as the coalition moved forward with its plan to limit judicial oversight of government decisions. Police had expected an increased turnout, as negotiations between the coalition and opposition have collapsed and the fight over the judicial overhaul has begun to heat up once more.

The main demonstration was, as usual, held on Tel Aviv’s Kaplan Street. Channel 13 partner Crowd Solutions estimated some 130,000 participants while organizers put the number at some 150,000. Nationwide, the organizers claimed a turnout of some 286,000. Protests were also held in some 150 other locations around the country, including more than 1,000 near the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.

Biden's Iran envoy on unpaid leave pending review of classified documents handling
[An Nahar] The Biden administration's special envoy for Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been placed on unpaid leave and had his security clearance suspended pending a review of allegations he may have mishandled classified information, U.S. officials said Thursday.

Rob Malley has led administration efforts to revive the faltering Iran nuclear deal and resolve issues related to detained Americans in Iran, but has not been active in his main job for weeks. He told colleagues he was taking extended personal leave for unspecified family reasons.

Two State Department officials said the agency's Bureau of Diplomatic Security was leading the inquiry, which revolves around Malley's handling of classified documents. The officials said they learned of Malley's change in status from paid to unpaid leave on Thursday, shortly after questions about his status were raised at the State Department's regular afternoon briefing.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity due to privacy reasons.

Malley did not immediately respond to a query about the situation from The News Agency that Dare Not be Named but said in a short statement to several other news outlets that he had "been informed that my security clearance is under review."

"I have not been provided any further information, but I expect the investigation to be resolved favorably and soon. In the meantime, I am on leave," he said in that statement.

State Department front man Matthew Miller said earlier Thursday that Malley officially remains in his post but is on leave and that his deputy, Abram Paley, is currently leading the Iran portfolio as the acting special envoy.

Malley's whereabouts have raised questions since he skipped a classified congressional briefing on Iran on May 16. At the time, State Department officials told politicians that Malley was on "extended personal leave" and suggested that his absence might be related to a family health issue.

Malley, a close personal friend of Secretary of State Antony Blinken, had worked for the International Crisis Group during the Trump administration. In that job he met on several occasions with Iranians and Paleostinian officials with whom U.S. officials are barred from having contact.

During the B.O. regime, Malley served as a National Security Council aide and was closely involved in the negotiations over the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

Good lads at DIPSEC. Knew a few of them years ago. Lots of old JSOC hands. Well traveled, discreet, handy with a SIG. Most had a pronounced dislike for the standard Foreign Service Officer (FOS) weenies. Even less professional regard for the Klingons.

IAF hits anti-aircraft battery in Syria after missile explodes over Israel
[IsraelTimes] Military says attack on air defense system, ’additional targets’ in response to missile launch from Syria, makes no mention of alleged Israeli strikes in Homs

Israel said fighter jets struck a Syrian anti-aircraft battery inside Syrian territory early Sunday in response to an anti-aircraft missile launched from the air defense system earlier in the night that went kaboom! over Israeli airspace.

The launch from Syria earlier occurred as the Israeli Air Force allegedly carried out air strikes near the city of Homs. Syria’s state news agency, SANA, said the IAF had targeted a number of sites near Homs in the strike, causing unspecified "material losses." SANA said Syrian air defenses responded to the "Israeli aggression."

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Sunday morning that Israeli jets attacked the anti-aircraft battery in response and also hit "additional targets in the area."

The military said that, according to an initial investigation, the missile launched from Syria "went kaboom! mid-air in Israeli airspace." It had earlier acknowledged the launch of the anti-aircraft missile in a brief statement that did not mention the alleged Israeli strikes near Homs.

The IDF said there were no special instructions for civilians following the incident and that no injuries were reported.

It did not address reports that shrapnel from the Syria missile landed in the southern city of Rahat, according to footage from the scene.

Residents of central and southern Israel reported hearing a large blast and shrapnel of what appeared to be parts of a surface-to-air missile from a Russian-made S-200 system landed in the southern city of Rahat, footage showed. Rahat is located some 230 kilometers (142 miles) from Israel’s border with Syria, and 415km (257 miles) from Homs.

The nose of the missile crashed into the side of a building, causing slight damage, and the tail landed in an open field near the city. Firefighters and police forces were called to the scene.

No sirens sounded in Israel after the Syrian missile entered Israeli airspace.

Though uncommon, Syrian surface-to-air missiles fired at Israeli fighter jets have in the past caused damage and triggered sirens in Israel as they fell back into airspace.

The last reported Israeli strike in Syria occurred on June 14, when a soldier was seriously hurt after IAF jets struck a site near the capital Damascus.

Coalition drones in Syria violated flight safety more than 300 times in a month
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Unmanned aerial vehicles of the international coalition led by the United States in Syria violated the Memorandum on Flight Safety 315 times in June, Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria (CPVS), told reporters .

According to him, these violations are still targeted and systematic. Gurinov stressed that compared to last year, their number has increased significantly.

As IA Regnum reported , at the end of May, Oleg Gurinov said that American military pilots in Syria continue to violate deconflict protocols and the Memorandum on Flight Safety during sorties .

A memorandum on flight safety in Syria was concluded in October 2015. It was signed by Russia and the USA. The purpose of the document is to ensure the safety of flights in Syrian airspace, as well as to regulate the actions of all aircraft and drones.

On June 20 and 21, high-level talks on Syria were held in the capital of Kazakhstan in the Astana format. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the meeting "a continuation of a very long journey." He added that Russia will continue its efforts to reach a settlement in Syria.
