Afghanistan
Motorbike bombing shakes Afghanistan’s Maimana city
[KhaamaPress] A cycle of violence bomb went kaboom! near a mosque in Maimana city, Faryab provinces of Afghanistan, according to local people.

The explosion took place on Wednesday close to the Imam Abu Hanifa Mosque in Miamana capital city of Faryab in northern Afghanistan that at least six people, including three Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
members, were maimed in the earth-shattering kaboom, said local people.
Could be ISIS — they like blowing up mosques, whereas Northern Alliance and other rebel groups generally go after soldiers in duty to advance their civil war...
So far, no one has grabbed credit for the earth-shattering kaboom. However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the security situation in Afghanistan has tanked over the past couple of months, causing further challenges for the interim government in Kabul.

Since August 2021, gangs linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Khorasan Province-Afghan branch gained power and carried out bombings, targeting civilian citizens, Taliban officials, ethnic minorities, and foreign nations.
A hint that the Khaama Press reporter thinks ISIS-K dunnit.
Despite the ruling regime’s tremendous efforts, security in Afghanistan is still a major concern. Target killings, explosions, and suicide kabooms routinely happen in Kabul and other cities.
Ariana News adds:
Shamsullah Mohammadi, head of information and culture of Faryab, says that an explosion took place at around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, near the entrance gate of the Imam Abu Hanifa Mosque in the 3rd district of Maimana city.

According to Mohammadi no casualties were reported.

Daily Evacuation Brief February 9, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • SECURITY INCIDENT AT AIRPORT, TALIBAN USE GUNFIRE TO DISPERSE CROWDS – A rumor began circulating on social media yesterday that Turkey had dispatched planes to Kabul and was interested in transporting volunteers to assist with the earthquake disaster relief effort. A crowd of Afghans descended on the airport, hoping to be evacuated to Turkey. Several groups of people stormed the gates and made it onto the airfield and the Taliban opened fire to disperse the crowd. Some local eyewitnesses claimed to have seen bullets hit some of those in the group. The Taliban released several statements dispelling the rumors. A Turkish aircraft was said to have landed at the airport but was there to evacuate some of the diplomatic staff and their families from the country.

  • BLAST NEAR MOSQUE IN FARYAB – An IED that had been stashed on a motorcycle was detonated during the early afternoon hours near the entrance to the Imam Abu Hanifa Mosque in Maimana City yesterday. Taliban authorities said no casualties had resulted from the explosion but local eyewitnesses said that 3 Taliban and 3 non-combatants had been injured in the blast. No group has yet claimed credit for the bombing.

  • CANADA IS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE ITS EXPANDED REFUGEE PROGRAM FOR AFGHANS IN THE COMING WEEKS – The program is focused on assisting approximately 45 Afghan interpreters and cultural advisors to bring their families to Canada. The program is expected to launch after a human-rights campaign filed by several Afghan Canadians was adjudicated in a settlement.

  • MOSCOW CONSULTATIONS ON AFGHANISTAN LAUNCHED YESTERDAY, TALIBAN NOT IN ATTENDANCE – The fifth meeting of national security advisors from Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan began yesterday in Moscow. The focus of the meeting was to discuss security matters related to Afghanistan and the Taliban were not invited to the event. While Iran and Russia spent much of their time grinding axes with the US, they also agreed that an inclusive government and commitment to control terrorism are precursors to further engagement. The Taliban had called on Russia to invite their delegation last week but the request was denied.

Conflict Tracker
Helmand: An ALM team assassinated a senior Taliban judge in an operation near Shin Nawar of the Danhar Siraj district. No ALM troops were wounded or killed in the hit-and-run attack.

NEXT 24 HOURS
SEARCHES CONTINUE IN KABUL, AIRPORT TO TIGHTEN SECURITY – Security searches are expected to continue but will be hampered by a lack of manpower as the incident at the airport has drawn over 100 Taliban off the search details to reinforce the guard force there. Sources in the Ministry of the Interior said that Taliban leadership was incensed upon hearing the airport defenses had been overwhelmed so quickly and were looking for answers from security officials in charge of the site. One official is said to have complained that the incident will cause the world to wonder who is in control in Afghanistan. At-risk Afghans can expect more of the same over the coming days with detailed identity checks at Taliban checkpoints and house searches across the city. We do believe the airport and its surrounding neighborhoods will be the focus of searches for today.

A member of Jubaland Parliament shot dead in Mogadishu
Al Shabaab, clan warfare, political infighting, plain vanilla criminal? Lots of possibilities for mayhem in Mogadishu.
[ShabelleMedia] Gunmen have last night shot and killed MP Isak Mohammed Hassan, known as Sandheere as he left a mosque in Mogadishu after the evening prayer.

Sandheere was one of the members of the Jubaland Regional Parliament, and he previously served as the Deputy Minister of Security in Ahmed Madobe’s Kismayo

The killers immediately beat feet from the scene of the crime before the arrival of the police, according to the eyewitnesses, who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone.

In a statement, Ahmed Madobe, has expressed his condolences over the death of the politician, whom he said was killed by al-Shabaab

"The President of the Government of Jubaland, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Islam, has sent his condolences to the relatives, members of the Parliament of Jubaland and the people of Jubaland in general for the tragic death of the MP Isak Mohammed Hassan who was shot full of holes in Mogadishu by al-Shabaab while coming out of a mosque" said the President.

In conclusion, the President of Jubaland prayed to ALLAH to bless the dear departed in paradise, his family and the people in general, and to give him patience and faith.

UAE-Backed STC Imposes Siege on Saudi-led Coalition Controlled Area Near Aden

...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
News] On Tuesday, The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia imposed on a suffocating siege on a site near Ma’ashiq Palace in Crater district in the port city of Aden, which is controlled by the Saudi-led coalition.

The Yemeni Press Agency learned from its sources that elements of the so-called "anti-terrorism force" led by Shalal Shaya surrounded a site where about 6 officers from Taiz were present, adding that the officers were summoned to Aden by the president of the Riyadh-formed "Presidential Council," Rashad al-Alimi.

The sources pointed out that a force loyal to al-Alimi tried to remove the officers, but Shaya’s elements rebuffed the force’s interference, threatening to blow up the situation without providing any other details on the names of the officers.

UAE-Backed STC Military Commanders Killed in Road-Side Bombing

In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
FSB raids a farm in the Stavropol Territory
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
It’s not clear to me whether the terrorists here are Ukrainians/supporters of Ukrainian independence or jihadis. I understand not wanting to name bad guys so as not to give their cause more attention, but it really is counterproductive for those of us trying to track what’s going on. Do you discern clues here that I am missing in my ignorance, dear Reader?
[RIA Novosti] In the Stavropol Territory, a counter-terrorist operation regime was introduced within the boundaries of the Petrovsky farm, the FSB department for the region reported.

"On February 8 at 20 o'clock <...> in order to suppress and disclose a terrorist act, a decision was made to conduct a counter-terrorist operation and introduce a CTO legal regime for the period of its implementation within the boundaries of the Petrovsky farm of the Soviet urban district," the statement says.
Does Soviet have another meaning other than the defunct communist Soviet Union?
Recently, Ukrainian sabotage attempts have become more frequent in Russia. So, at the end of December, the FSB detained a Ukrainian migrant in the North Caucasus, who, as he himself admitted, was planning to stage a terrorist attack. A few days earlier, two militants who were preparing a terrorist attack in Chegem on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services were killed in Kabardino-Balkaria.

At the end of last year, Vladimir Putin signed a law punishing up to life imprisonment for the creation of sabotage communities, financing and propaganda of sabotage.

New Zealand police find 3.5 tons of cocaine worth $300M floating in Pacific Ocean
[NYPOST] More than 3 tons of cocaine was found bobbing in the Pacific Ocean after the drugs were dropped there by an international drug-trafficking ring, New Zealand police said.

New Zealand Police Commissioner Andrew Coster said the wholesale value of the drugs was about 500 million New Zealand dollars, which is the equivalent of $316 million, and it was likely destined for Australia.

"We believe there was enough cocaine to service the Australian market for about one year, and this would be more than New Zealand would use in 30 years," he said.

Although they have made no arrests yet, police said they had dealt a financial blow to everyone from the South American producers of the cocaine to the distributors in what was New Zealand’s largest-ever drug bust.

The 3.5 tons of cocaine had been dropped at a floating transit point in 81 bales before it was intercepted by the royal navy ship HMNZS Manawanui.

Three drown, many feared missing in migrant shipwreck off Greece
[ShabelleMedia] Three people drowned and 11 were believed to be missing in the second migrant shipwreck off Greece this week, the Greek Coast Guard said on Tuesday, as the search continued in cold and windy weather.

The Coast Guard said in a statement that 27 people were rescued in an operation that began in the early hours of Tuesday, after an inflatable rubber boat was spotted on rocks along the coast of the island of Lesbos, near The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
At least 10 people were taken to hospital, authorities said, some suffering from hypothermia as a cold weather front brought freezing temperatures and snow across many parts of Greece this week. Others were huddled in thick blankets on the side of the road as they received help by aid workers, Rooters television pictures showed.

Survivors told authorities that about 41 people were on board the dinghy that had sailed from the Ottoman Turkish coast. Two coasties vessels and a Super Puma helicopter were assisting in the search operation amid strong winds, the Coast Guard said.

State broadcaster ERT said the migrants colonists were from Syria, Yemen

and Somalia, citing survivors’ accounts.

for refugees and migrants colonists from the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Most cross on inflatable boats from Turkey, a short but perilous journey during which thousands have died.

Four migrants colonists, including three children, died after their boat sank off the island of Leros in the southeastern Aegean Sea on Sunday.

105 Migrants from 8 Countries Caught Sneaking Across Frigid U.S.-Canadian Border
[Breitbart] Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents continue to see a spike in border crossings despite temperatures falling to minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit during the past week. Recently, agents apprehended 105 migrants from eight different nations during a week-long stretch.

Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia tweeted photos of a group of migrants apprehended after crossing the Canadian border into New York. Garcia described the migrants as part of a “snow-covered group.”

Chief Garcia reported that the recent arctic blast dropped temperatures in the region to -22 degrees. He said the migrants apprehended came to the sector’s area of responsibility from eight different countries. The chief did not disclose what nations those were.

Garcia also tweeted photos showing the illegal crossing paths into Franklin and West Berkshire, Vermont. The chief reports similar ecological damage caused by migrants discarding clothing an other debris. This is similar, on a smaller scale, to the damage caused on Texas ranches along the Rio Grande that separates Mexico and the U.S.

Swanton Sector officials report an increase in migrant apprehensions of nearly 743 percent in the first quarter of FY23 despite life-threatening weather conditions in the Canadian border region of Vermont and New York.

During the first three months of the new fiscal year, Swanton Sector agents apprehended 1,146 migrants who crossed the border from Canada into Vermont and New York, Breitbart Texas reported. This compares to 136 migrant apprehensions during the same period in FY22 — an increase of nearly 743 percent.

Agents in this sector reported increased apprehensions in each of the preceding seven months. Between May 1 and December 31, agents took 1,866 migrants into custody. This compares to the 2,004 migrants that were apprehended during FY20-22 combined.

However, an investigation by the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) revealed that while there was illegal slavery, reports were exaggerated, as slave auctions were rare and not made public. The city was later seized by forces loyal to the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its leader Khalifa Haftar in January 2019, probably for its collection of MiG-25 aircraft....
that 27 persons including 25 security personnel and two non-combatants were killed in bad boy attacks across Jammu since August 05, 2019.

In a written reply, Minister of State in the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA), Nityanand Rai, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that a total of 25 security personnel including two from Jammu-one each in 2019 and 2022, two in Rajouri in 2020, five in 2021 & four in 2022, nine in Poonch in 2021, one in Ramban in 2019, one in Kishtwar in 2020 and one in Doda in 2020 were killed in bad boy attacks post August 5, 2019.

He also said two non-combatants were killed in Jammu region , which include one in Rajouri in 2021 and one in Udhampur in 2022.

He further said 48 security personnel have also been injured in bad boy attacks, which include 10 in 2019, four in 2020, 14 in 2021 and 15 in 2022 and 20 civilians have also been injured including one in 2020, nine in 2021 & 19 in 2022.
