#1  Just wanted to wish y’all exactly the kind of New Year’s Eve celebration you like best. And that those who are out and about get home safely, because there are always lots of idiots on the road.

And that 2023 fulfills all our hopes that didn’t come true in 2022, plus a few we would have hoped for if we’d thought of it.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief December 31, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • PAKISTAN SAYS MILITANTS ATTACKED AN ARMY POST FROM AFGHANISTAN, 3 SOLDIERS DEAD – The attack was reported on Thursday in the Kurram border district (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). Local residents said the fighting began before daybreak and the fighting lasted for more than an hour. Pakistan claimed to have killed two of the militants and was attempting to identify the men. They say they were carrying Afghan currency on them. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

  • INTERNAL DIVISIONS CONTINUE TO BUILD WITHIN THE TALIBAN – The standoff between Haibatullah Akhundzada and a cabal of his Ministers led by Mohammad Yaqoob and Sirajuddin Haqqani has continued. After the Supreme Leader spurned talks with his two most powerful Ministers, both sides have begun rallying loyalists to their sides. A source in a neighboring country who has enjoyed access to both camps said that Yaqoob and Haqqani hold a significant tactical edge over Akhundzada and have taken to calling the Supreme Leader’s forces, “The Militia of Kandahar”. The source went on to say that Kandahar is an island on an inner sea that would fall in days should the Kabul clique decide to remove Akhundzada. Another source in Kabul said any campaign to remove the Supreme Leader would be a protracted affair and said he holds significant sway with the older warlords who would likely come to his aid.

  • HACKING GROUP ANONYMOUS SHARES TALIBAN MEMBERS’ PHONE NUMBERS AND EMAILS PUBLICLY – The hacking collective began posting the information on Twitter and are expected to continue leaking the information in a coordinated campaign that will see Afghan diaspora activist groups deluge the Taliban members with emails, texts, and phone calls over the next few months. Supporters of the campaign hope they will be able to change some opinions of those fighting for the group. The Taliban initially planned a press release about the situation but canceled it at the last minute.

  • OFFICIALS IN KARACHI COME UNDER FIRE AFTER PHOTOS OF AFGHAN CHILDREN IN A PRISON ARE RELEASED – The UNHCR has asked for information about the Afghan people who have been arrested in Sindh Province. Authorities in the Province say they have rounded up approximately 1,400 Afghans, 400 Nigerians, and several hundred other foreigners since August of 2022. The officials say they have been detained in three detention facilities while their cases are reviewed and decisions are made about what to do with them. The photos have been shared widely on social media and will likely elicit further criticism from other organizations and governments.

  • INDIAN DRUG MANUFACTURER ACCUSED OF KILLING 18 UZBEK CHILDREN FORCED TO HALT OPERATIONS – Marion Biotech, the firm that makes Dok1 Max, a children’s cough suppressant, was forced to halt production on Thursday night after irregularities and deviations were discovered. Indian authorities had already launched an investigation but were now trying to determine where the cough syrup may have been exported over the past year. There is concern that some of the cough syrup may have been sold in Balkh Province after being delivered by a supplier from Uzbekistan.

Militants attack security checkpoint in Egypt
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Al Ahram doesn’t have anything on this as of the midnight publication. We’ll see if anything shows up during the day.
[REGNUM] At least two policemen died December 30 as a result of an attack by militants in the city of Ismailia, east of the Egyptian capital Cairo, Reuters reported, citing local authorities and the Egyptian Interior Ministry.

The bandits drove up to the national security checkpoint and opened fire. One passer-by was also killed.

In addition, the militants wounded two more police officers. Representatives of law enforcement agencies specified that one of the shooters was killed, and the second managed to escape.

As REGNUM reported , in mid-September, in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, terrorists blew up a car, killing one of the heads of the local pro-government militia.

Reuters: Militants attack checkpoint east of Cairo, kill two policemen

Update from Al Ahram at noon ET:
Four killed, 12 injured in attack on checkpoint in Egypt's Ismailia: Media

Four people were killed, including two coppers and a civilian, and 12 others were maimed on Friday afternoon in a suspected terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia, according to local and foreign media.

No official statement has been released by the Egyptian authorities so far, and there has been no official account on the corpse count or injuries.

One of the two assailants was reportedly killed during the attack, while the 12 injured were taken to a hospital for treatment.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the attack.

In May, an officer and ten soldiers from the Egyptian Army were killed, and five others were maimed in an attack by a takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
bully boyz against a water lifting station checkpoint east of the Suez Canal.
Al Ahram means the group that has called itself ’Wilayat Sina’ (’Sinai Province’) — an affiliate of Islamic State in North Sinai — which repeatedly grabbed credit for terrorist attacks in North Sinai in recent years. There used to be a Gaza branch that called itself the Sheikh Omar Hadid Brigade, but they appeared in the news only briefly. Back when the Sinai Province swore loyalty to Al Qaeda, they called themselves Ansar Bayt al Maqdis/Al Qaeda in the Sinai.
Terrorist attacks in Egypt — which spiked in the wake of the 2013 ouster of the Moslem Brüderbund President Mohammed Morsi, most notably in North Sinai — have declined in recent years following massive and successive security and military operations.

The attacks targeted security forces, particularly at military and police checkpoints, as well as civilians, causing hundreds of casualties.

Hundreds of bad boyz were potted in anti-terror military operations, according to Armed Forces periodical reports.

In 2018, the Armed Forces launched a major counterterrorism drive, Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018, that has succeeded in the near eradication of terrorism from North Sinai as well as the Nile Delta and desert areas.

During the past hours, the UAE pushed the "Al-Amaliqa Brigades", which it brought in from the western coast at the beginning of this year, to control "Arin" camp in "Armaa" area, east of the city of Ataq, the capital of the province, after tribal pressure for the Islah forces of Evil to leave the area and force them to withdraw to Ma’rib province, according local sources.

The sources stated that the command of the UAE forces in Shabwah threatened earlier this week with targeting the Islah krazed killers, after they refused to withdraw from the Arin camp.

The UAE funded a tribal sit-in of the Arama and Shabwah tribes during the past month in the vicinity of the Arin camp, and last Tuesday gave the Islah forces of Evil 48 hours, as a final deadline to leave the camp.

Member of Lion’s Den terror group nabbed by troops in daytime Nablus raid
[IsraelTimes] Military says no soldiers hurt during fierce festivities with Paleostinian button men in West Bank city; Ahmed Masri, 19, taken to be questioned by Shin Bet

Israeli troops on Friday morning detained a member of the Lion’s Den terror group in the West Bank city of Nablus
... an ad hoc group of jihadis from the area with no regard to their formal affiliation — call them the PLO of terror orgs...
amid a fierce shootout, the military, police and Shin Bet security agency said in a joint statement.

The arrest came amid a months-long Israeli anti-terror effort, mostly in the northern West Bank, following a series of terror attacks that have left 31 people dead since the beginning of the year.

The Israel Defense Forces, Border Police and Shin Bet said troops entered Nablus on Friday morning to arrest Ahmed Masri, 19, a member of the gang based in the northern West Bank city.

The Shin Bet said Masri was close with Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a senior al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade fighter and one of the founding members of the Lion’s Den. al-Nabulsi was killed by Israeli troops in late August, around the time when the terror group was being formed.

It added that Masri was still actively involved in terror activities.

When troops arrived at a building in Nablus to arrest Masri, he fled and hid in another building while armed. The military said several uninvolved civilians were in that building at the time. Special Border Police forces broke into the building, arrested Masri and seized the firearm in his possession. He was taken to be questioned by the Shin Bet.

During the raid, Paleostinians shot up troops and hurled explosives, stones and Molotov cocktails at them, the IDF said. Soldiers and Border Police officers returned fire at armed button men, the military said.

The Paleostinian Red Cresent said four Paleostinians were maimed by gunfire and bullet fragments, and one by rubber bullets, while 25 required treatment after inhaling tear gas and one suffered a head injury for unclear reasons during the festivities.

No Israeli soldiers or officers were hurt in the raid, Israeli officials said.

In recent months, Paleostinian button men, mostly members of the Lion’s Den, have repeatedly targeted military posts, troops operating along the West Bank security barrier, Israeli settlements and civilians on the roads.

The IDF’s operation has netted more than 2,500 arrests in near-nightly raids. It has also left 170 Paleostinians dead, many of them while carrying out attacks or during festivities with security forces.

Israel indicts soldiers for trying to bomb Palestinian home
[An Nahar] Israel's military said its prosecutor has filed indictments against two soldiers who allegedly hurled an bomb at a Paleostinian home in the occupied West Bank, a rare instance of Israeli troops facing serious charges over an offense against Paleostinians.

Prosecutors charged the two soldiers with making an bomb, aggravated intentional assault, intentional harm to property and impeaching the investigation, the army announced late Thursday. The court ordered the soldiers to remain in detention until a hearing next month. They were arrested on Nov. 28.

The indictment said the two defendants acted out of Dire Revenge for the abduction of the body of an Israeli schoolboy in the flashpoint West Bank city of Jenin on Nov. 22.
And now we finally come to the meat of the thing:
Paleostinian murderous Moslems in Jenin had snatched the body of 17-year-old Tiran Fero, a member of Israel's Druze Arab minority, from a local hospital where he was receiving treatment after a car crash. Fero's father accused the murderous Moslems of removing his son from his life-support machine while he was still alive. The Israeli military had said he was already dead when the murderous Moslems took him.

The seizure of the boy's body spread alarm among Israel's Druze community. As anger rose, videos circulated on social media of Druze men threatening to take Dire Revenge against Paleostinians. Police said Druze villagers even attacked and tied up three Paleostinian laborers in northern Israel.

Amid the standoff over Fero's body, the two defendants — reportedly Druze soldiers
...that is to say, Israeli-Druze soldiers...
— teamed up with another soldier to assemble https://regnum.ru/news/accidents/3766333.html an bomb, the military said on Thursday. The soldiers identified a Paleostinian home near the West Bank city of Bethlehem as their target and lobbed stones at it. A few days later, they threw the explosive into the crowded house "with the intent of starting a fire in the home," the military added.

The extent of the damage or any casualties was unclear. There were no details about the targeted family in Paleostinian media.

The military said it would issue an indictment against the third soldier in the coming days. The three soldiers were not named. The military did not immediately respond to request for comment on the penalties they could face.

group's sleeper cells.

U.S.-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said their raids had reportedly thwarted an attack planned for New Year's Eve. The IS Death Eaters were hiding in residential areas and farms, a statement from the forces said.

The yearslong U.S.-backed campaign had succeeded in crushing the krazed killers' territorial control in Iraq and Syria, but IS fighters maintain sleeper cells and have staged attacks that have killed scores of Iraqis and Syrians in the past months.

On Thursday, the Syrian Kurdish-led forces announced their operation, citing a surge in IS attacks and saying that ``Operation al-Jazeera Thunderbolt'' aims to target sleeper cells in al-Hol and nearby in Tal Hamis areas.

Some 900 U.S. troops in Syria support the Kurdish-led forces' fight against IS and have frequently targeted IS krazed killers, mostly in parts of northeastern Syria under Kurdish control.

The U.S. Central Command on Thursday reported conducting some 313 operations against IS in 2022 in Syria and Iraq, mostly in cooperation with Kurdish-led forces. According to a CENTCOM statement, 215 Death Eaters from the Islamic State group were arrested and 466 were killed in Syria.

Ten oil field workers killed in Syria attack
[An Nahar] An attack in eastern Syria killed 10 oil field workers, state news agency SANA reported on Friday, a day after Syrian Kurdish-led forces announced an offensive against jihadists.

In addition to the nearly dozen dead, "two others have been maimed in a terrorist attack that targeted three buses transporting workers from al-Taim oil field in Deir Ezzor" province, SANA reported.

It did not provide any information on the nature of the attack in the Kurdish-held area or who may be behind it, but a British-based war monitor said "cells of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group" carried out the assault near the oil field.

"The attack began with bombs that went off as the buses drove by, and then the group's forces of Evil shot at them," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

On Thursday the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said they had begun an offensive against Islamic State (IS) group fighters, following an earlier jihadist assault on a prison in Raqa, northwest of the attack on the bus.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said the offensive, dubbed "Operation al-Jazeera Thunderbolt", aimed to "eliminate" IS fighters from areas that had been "the source of the recent terrorist attacks."

The SDF said it was carrying out the operation alongside the U.S.-backed coalition, although there was no immediate confirmation from the international force that they were taking part.

The SDF statement said that in addition to the thwarted Raqa attack, IS fighters had recently carried out eight assaults in the Deir Ezzor area, Hasakeh and the al-Hol camp for displaced people, which houses family members of IS hard boys.

On Monday, six Kurdish fighters were killed when IS forces of Evil attacked the complex in Raqa, the jihadist group's former de facto capital in Syria, in a bid to free fellow forces of Evil imprisoned there.

Referring to recent Ottoman Turkish Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on Kurdish forces in northeast Syria, the SDF said IS was trying to "take advantage" of the situation by "carrying out more terrorist attacks."

After a meteoric rise in Iraq and Syria in 2014, IS saw its so-called caliphate collapse, but fighters remain.

Supported by an international anti-jihadist coalition led by the United States, the SDF spearheaded the fight against IS in Syria and drove the group from its last stronghold in the country in 2019.

IS continues to claim attacks in Iraq and Syria, and the SDF regularly launches operations against the jihadists.

IS said Monday's attack on Raqa aimed to avenge "Moslem prisoners" and female relatives of jihadists living in al-Hol camp.

This was the most significant jihadist attack on a prison since IS fighters launched their biggest assault in years in January, when they attacked the Ghwayran prison in the Kurdish-controlled city of Hasakeh.
Regnum adds:
At least 10 people were killed in a terrorist attack near an oil field in southeastern Syria's Deir ez-Zor province, Syrian Oil Minister Bassam Tome told state news agency SANA December 30.

Four more were injured. The head of the department specified that three cars, in which there were workers at the Al-Taim oilfield, fell under the artillery shelling of the terrorists.

He added that all the necessary medical assistance was provided to the victims. According to Al Jazeera, the terrorist group "Islamic State" (an organization whose activities are banned in Russia) is behind the attack.
From Rudaw:
SANA cited the oil minister as blaming the US-led global coalition against the Islamic State for the “blatant” assault.

The Coalition has not commented on the incident.

Deir ezZor is oil-rich and partially dominated by the Syrian regime. The rest of the province is controlled by the pro-Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Kurdish forces often carry out military operations against ISIS in the province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the attack was carried out by ISIS.

The UK-based war monitor added that 12 workers were killed and a number of others were injured in the attack, reporting military reinforcements by the regime forces.

The attack was carried out with the detonation of an IED as well as usage of light and medium weapons, according to the SOHR.

US military base attacked in northeastern Syria

[REGNUM] Syrian Radio and Television Directorate: US base attacked in Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor

The US military base in the province of Deir ez-Zor in northeastern Syria came under rocket fire on December 30, the General Directorate of Radio and Television of the Republic reported on its telegram channel.

The attacked object is located near the El Omar oil field.
