Gunmen have abducted the wife of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Chairman in Gwargwada Ward, Kuje Area Council, Mrs Asabe Mohammed Koriya.

She was abducted alongside 10 others.

According to Daily Trust, a relation of one of the victims, Salihu Ibrahim, said the incident happened on Friday, about 5pm, along Gwargwada-Gwombe junction near Rubochi community.

He said the victims were returning to Gwombe and Pesu villages after attending a political function at neighbouring Gwargwada village.

He said the gunmen, who are over 30 in number and armed with guns, barricaded the road with logs of wood.

They flagged down motorcycles and whisked the victims into the bush.

"But two other persons who are on a motorcycle escaped. Upon sighting the kidnappers, they abandoned the motorcycle and fled into the bush but the kidnappers set the motorcycle ablaze," he said.

Terrorists locally known as bandits, on Tuesday, launched an attack on travellers at Garun Gabas community along the Zungeru-Kontogora road in Niger State.

According to an eyewitness report, travellers are currently trapped on the road at Zungeru waiting for the bandits to be done with their operations.

The eyewitness, who spoke with TVC News, is said to be travelling from Minna to Kontogora.

Meanwhile, the bandits have shattered a car with bullets and the passengers dispossessed of their valuables.

Terrorists Attack Buhari’s Home State, Kill 13 Residents, Abduct Traditional Ruler

At least 13 people have been killed and many others abducted by bandits, now designated as terrorists, in attacks carried out between Monday night and Tuesday morning in three Katsina State communities.

The three communities, Guga, Gidan Kanawa and Dukawa, are in the Bakori and Funtua Local Government Area, all in the southern part of the state sharing boundaries with Kaduna State, Premium Times reports.

Katsina, despite being the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, has witnessed sporadic attacks by bandits and kidnappers that have claimed the lives of many.

A villager, Nafiu Muhammadu, said the village head of Guga, Alhaji Umar, was abducted while 10 people were killed in the attack.

“When they came, they started shooting sporadically and putting fire on shops in the community, which caused panic. When residents started running, some of the bandits started shooting, which led to the death of the 10 people I told you.

“The village head, despite the chance for him to run because his house is a little far away from where the attack started, came towards the bandits, asking his people to run. That was when he was captured. He was taken back into his house where some money and foodstuff were also taken,” Muhammadu said.

He said only the village head was abducted. Those killed had not been buried yet.

Local sources added that the marauding bandits stormed Dukawa in Funtua local government Monday night and ran a house-to-house search.

An anonymous source, who is now seeking refuge in Funtua said that the bandits were possibly there to loot food.

“They did not kill anyone in the village but eight women and six children were taken by the bandits when they couldn’t get any meaningful food stuff. I was there and there was no attempt by the security agents to repel the attack despite the fact that we called the policemen stationed not far from the village,” he said.

The source, however, said negotiations had started for the release of the women and children.

The attack in Gidan Kanawa came hours after the one in Dukawa, all in Funtua local government area.

Attahiru Bala, another resident of Funtua, said the attack on Gidan Kanawa in which three people were killed in the village was a reprisal attack.

“My sister-in-law lives there with her husband. She told us that the bandits were frustrated by vigilante members last Saturday when they attempted to attack the town. But they regrouped and came back this morning around 1am and launched the attack.

“If not because of the resilience of the vigilante members who still confronted them and helped residents escape, the casualties would have been more than the three killed. But I was also told that several people were abducted,” he said.

Bala said the three people were buried Tuesday morning in the area.

Bandit Who Escaped From Imo Prison Returns To Community To Kill Eight

Eight persons have been shot dead by a bandit said to be one of the inmates who escaped from Imo Correctional Centre.

It was learnt that the bandit has been terrorising the oil-bearing community of Mmahu Egbema, headquarters of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

The bandit was said to have stormed the community from an adjoining bush and started shooting, killing residents.

President of Egbema Community, Mr Romano, told Tribune that the unnamed assailant, said to be from the community, had since escaped from prison.

Romano said the assailant had been terrorising community residents since he escaped from prison.

According to him, because of the threat posed by the assailant, the community invited security operatives for assistance. He said with the help of some youths, the assailant was almost arrested but he was able to escape into the bush.

The community leader said before Monday’s incident where people were killed, the bandit had killed three persons and escaped into the bush.

Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abattam said the command had begun an investigation into the killings but did not state the number of people killed.

Fighting eases in Yemen’s Marib as Arab Coalition revamps forces

The Arab Coalition has deployed newly-formed units near Yemen’s Marib where battles have abated, according to military and government sources, as the warring sides hold their positions in the fight for energy-rich areas that has led to the war’s biggest escalation in years.

The Iran-backed Houthi militia last month responded to losses in Shabwa and Marib with unprecedented assaults on alliance member the United Arab Emirates, dealing a fresh blow to stalled peace efforts.

Marib is vital because it is the internationally-recognized government’s last stronghold in North Yemen, and the country’s sole gas producing region with one of its largest oilfields.

Three military sources said the Giants Brigade, southern Salafi Sunni Muslim fighters, have halted their advance in Marib after penetrating a Houthi cordon around the main city and securing the route to oil-rich Shabwa in the south.

Ten killed in mine explosion in Yemen
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] At least 10 pro-government Yemeni troops were killed in an anti-personnel mine explosion, Xinhua reported, citing a source in Yemeni circles.

"An anti-personnel mine planted by the Houthis killed at least ten pro-government troops in Hajja province near the border with Saudi Arabia," the source said.

According to him, the explosion damaged a car with military personnel. At the same time, the source points out, the Houthis are laying hundreds of anti-personnel mines to slow down the advance of the troops.

As REGNUM reported, on February 8, the Yemeni government army and the Houthis began a battle for the capture of the city of Harad in the province of Hajja. Pro-government troops managed to shoot down eight rebel drones. The Yemeni military is trying to take the city by storm in the coming days.

Eight Houthi drones shot down in Yemen
[REGNUM] Units of the government army of Yemen and detachments of the Houthi rebels entered the battle for the possession of the city of Harad in the province of Hajja. This was reported on February 8 by Al-Hadath, citing an official statement from the Yemeni army.

According to the latest data, the rebels are actively using artillery, armored vehicles and kamikaze drones.

“Army formations of the force repelled a fierce attack by the Houthi militias, during which they tried to regain lost positions and lift the siege of the central areas of the city, where their formations continue to resist. Army forces shot down eight rebel military drones in the airspace of the liberated areas of Hajja province,” the Yemeni army said in a statement.

According to military sources, the army continues to attack Harad from three directions and intends to take the city by storm in the near future.

Dozens of Yemeni pro-government fighters have been killed in a new offensive to take a rebel-held city, loyalist sources said on Tuesday, following a surge in violence including missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates.

Thirty-two soldiers have died and at least 100 have been wounded in three days of fighting to drive the Iran-backed rebels from Haradh, north of the capital Sanaa and near the Saudi border, the sources said.

Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war between the government -- supported by a Saudi-led military coalition -- and the Iran-backed Huthis, who control much of the north, since 2014.

The latest clashes come after the Huthi rebels, after suffering territorial defeats to UAE-trained troops, killed three oil workers in a series of drone and missile attacks on Abu Dhabi.

Fighting was still raging around Haradh on Tuesday, the pro-government sources said, adding that the loyalists have besieged the area but are yet to seize the city.

One loyalist source said at least 56 rebels were killed in the fighting and accompanying coalition air strikes. The Huthis rarely report casualties in their ranks.

The Yemeni conflict has intensified in recent weeks, with the coalition and loyalist forces launching a series of offensives to recover territory lost to the rebels further south.

Meanwhile, the Huthis have stepped up their missile and drone attacks on neighbouring Saudi Arabia and have launched similar assaults on the United Arab Emirates, a member of the military coalition.

Belgian police arrest 13 in anti-terror raids
[IsraelTimes] More than 100 Belgian police have raided multiple addresses around the port city of Antwerp, detaining 13 people suspected of links to a jihadist group.

The operation was launched under the authority of anti-terror magistrates as part of a broader investigation, federal prosecutors said in a statement.

"An Antwerp group within the Salafist jihadist milieu has come under scrutiny and the aim of this operation was to further map out the group’s activities," it says.

"Thirteen people were deprived of their liberty and will appear in the course of the day before the investigating judge, who will decide on a possible arrest."

The Belgian cities of Brussels and Antwerp have been singled out in the past as alleged rear bases for international jihadist extremism.

Antwerp was the base of the jihad group Sharia4Belgium
...the Antwerp-based Salafist organization that had campaigned to introduce Sharia law to Belgium before single-handedly making Belgium the highest per capita supplier of jihadis to Syria in Europe. There was a big trial in Antwerp in 2015, but most of those convicted were in absentia. Its spokesman, Fouad Belkacem, was sentenced to 12 years in prison...

The largest group of ISIS prisoners were held in Nasiriyah Central Prison, in southeast Iraq, where more than 6,000 people were held on terrorism charges.

Earlier, Iraqi security authorities ramped up security measures in and near the prisons housing members and commanders of ISIS.

A source told our Agency, "senior commanders directed tightening security measures in the prisons where ISIS commanders are detained."

"Tight security measures were taken in the prisons of al-Taji, al-Kefl, al-Hout. The directive was issued in the aftermath of the attack on the Ghweran prison in the Syrian city of al-Hasakah, which houses senior ISIS commanders."

The Iraqi authorities had also taken strict security measures on the borders with Syria, fearing ISIS members who fled from Ghweran to infiltrate the Iraqi territory.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rocket sirens sound amid alleged Israeli airstrike on Damascus UPDATE: 6 Syrian soldiers airstruck
[Jpost] This is the second alleged Israeli airstrike reported in Syria this year.

Rocket sirens sounded in and near Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel, as Syrian state media reported an alleged Israeli airstrike near Damascus on Tuesday night. The IDF confirmed that an anti-aircraft missile fired from Syria set off the sirens and that the missile exploded mid-air.

Shrapnel from an air defense missile fell on a residential building in the city of Qudsaya near Damascus, according to Syrian reports. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The IDF confirmed early Wednesday morning that it hit Syrian air defense sites in response to the anti-aircraft missile which flew into Israeli airspace. The targets included a Syrian radar and air defense batteries.

A military source told the Syrian state news agency SANA that airstrikes were launched from over Lebanon on Tuesday night, followed by an attack by surface-to-surface missiles fired from the Golan Heights targeting sites near Damascus. The source added that Syrian air defenses intercepted some of the Israeli missiles and that authorities are examining the results of the attack.

Ambulances were heard in some neighborhoods of Damascus after the airstrikes, according to the Syrian Capital Voice site. The strikes reportedly targeted sites belonging to the Assad regime and Iranian militias.

This is not the first time that a Syrian air defense missile flew into Israel. In April, a Syrian air defense missile fell near Dimona after it was fired towards IAF jets during an alleged Israeli airstrike targeted Syria.

The strike on Tuesday night was the second alleged Israeli airstrike reported in Syria this year.

The airstrike comes a little over a week after an alleged Israeli airstrike targeted sites near Damascus, causing some material damage. According to the opposition-affiliated Halab Today TV, the strikes targeted sites belonging to the Assad regime near Al-Qutayfah, northeast of Damascus, causing injuries and material damage.

A series of cargo flights on airlines used to transport Iranian weapons have traveled between Iran and Syria in recent weeks, according to independent flight trackers.

Last week, an Iranian cargo vessel called the Parnia docked at the Latakia port in northwest Syria, according to the open-source intelligence social media account Intelli Times. The port was targeted by two Israeli airstrikes in December. The
Update from The Times of Israel at 1:20 a.m. ET:
A later SANA report, citing military sources, said one soldier was killed and five maimed in the Israeli strikes.

It said that Israel had carried out two separate strikes, with jets firing missiles from southeast of Beirut in neighboring Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a formerly French, now an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. ...
. About 15 minutes later, a second barrage of surface-to-surface rockets was fired from the Golan Heights toward targets in the Damascus region.

"Our air defenses have confronted the aggressor’s missiles and shot down some of them," the report said, adding that in addition to the casualties, the strikes caused "material damage."

Analysts generally dismiss such claims of shooting down Israeli missiles — heard after nearly every Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
— as false, empty boasts.

Reports from Lebanon said that Israeli jets were seen in the skies at the time of the incident.

Syrian terrorist demands displacement camp be evacuated.

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Several people from a camp for the displaced near the town of Atma, north of Idlib, were arrested on Tuesday by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham with the aim pressure them to leave the camp.

HTS militants raided the “Our Children Appeal to You” camp near the town of Atma, near the Syrian-Turkish border, north of Idlib, and arrested six people, including the elderly, North Press reported local sources from the region.

The arrest of the displaced came days after HTS sent written notifications to about 80 displaced families in the camp, on the necessity of evacuating the land on which the camp was built within a specified period, otherwise they will be forcibly expelled, according to the same sources.

As the controller of all aspects of life in northwest Syria, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham continues to restrict the population there.

Government forces withdraw from a checkpoint in Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the 15th Division of the government forces withdrew its members from al-Ain checkpoint at the entrance to Salkhad city, south of Suwayda governorate, south Syria.

“All the members of the checkpoints have been withdrawn,” North Press reported local sources.

This evacuation came at a time when Suwayda has witnessed large protests and popular anger for four days against the government’s recent decisions to lift subsidy on basic materials.

The 15th Division is one of the military formations of the First Corps, whose presence is concentrated in Suwayda, and many of its members are from the governorate, who joined the service under a special amnesty in 2015, which allowed them to serve in Suwayda.

A number of the division’s points are deployed in the countryside of the Suwayda, and the division’s forces withdrew in mid-November from Daraa Governorate towards their points in Suwayda.
