U.S. envoy warns RSF against attacking El Fasher
2024-04-05
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The US Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, issued a strong warning today against a potential offensive on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

"Any offensive on El Fasher would be disastrous for Darfur’s civilians and only worsen the already dire situation in Sudan," Perriello said in a statement on Wednesday.

His comments come amid rising tensions in the region, fueled by reports that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are blocking humanitarian aid deliveries to El Fasher and restricting civilian movement.

"These actions only add to the suffering of the Sudanese people," Perriello added.

The U.S. envoy reiterated the U.S. position, urging all parties involved in the conflict to immediately cease attacks and uphold their commitments under international law, as well as the agreements reached at the recent Jeddah peace talks.

On Wednesday evening, the Sudanese air force targeted the RSF forces outside El-Fasher and in Mellit of the North Darfur state. Also, they bombed the paramilitary forces in Nyala of South Darfur.

#2  Russia / Wagner is funding and supplying Sudan's Rapid Support Forces.

The coup countries across the Sahel (Niger, Nigeria, Mali, Chad, Sudan - particularly the former French Colonies) are getting support from Russia to break away from French Colonialism, and there are seen to kill more ISIS.

#1  So who is funding the Sudan army? Traditionally equipment has arrived from China and paid for by Iran. As for the RSF, "A 2019 investigation revealed that more than 1,000 vehicles – most of them Toyota Hilux pick-ups – were purchased from dealers in the United Arab Emirates, and later equipped with mounted weapons. The funds to purchase the vehicles were likely sourced from [RSF's] Hemedti’s vast gold mining operations in Sudan." However, this doesn't make sense as the gold mining occurs northeast of Khartoum and controlled by the government.
In fact, the UAE seem to be the primary RSF funding agents, but what they hope to accomplish in the Sudan is murky at best.
