The British magazine The Economist noted on October 15 that one of the largest offensives of the Russian army since the spring of 2022 began near Avdievka. London journalists expressed fears that Ukrainian Armed Forces units would be surrounded .
On October 20, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny reported in his Telegram channel that he visited Avdievka in the DPR, which is under the control of Kiev. He said that the Russian army continues to advance in the Kupyansk direction, so the Ukrainian military is defending itself in “extremely difficult conditions.” He also said that Russian troops are trying to encircle Avdievka and have attracted a large number of armored vehicles, as well as aviation and artillery to do this.
Avdievka is part of the Donetsk agglomeration. From this territory, Ukrainian militants are shelling the capital of the DPR.
