Comer will hold Christopher Wray in contempt as FBI won't share Biden bribe tip
2023-05-31
[NYPOST] House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Tuesday he will move to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress after he again refused to share an informant file that allegedly implicates President Biden in a $5 million bribery scheme.

Comer (R-Ky.) set a final compliance deadline of Tuesday, which the FBI made clear it would not meet.

"Today, the FBI informed the Committee that it will not provide the unclassified documents subpoenaed by the Committee," Comer said. "The FBI’s decision to stiff-arm Congress and hide this information from the American people is obstructionist and unacceptable.

"While I have a call scheduled with FBI Director Wray tomorrow to discuss his response further, the Committee has been clear in its intent to protect Congressional oversight authorities and will now be taking steps to hold the FBI Director in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a lawful subpoena," Comer added.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy
...the GOP house majority whip. He replaces Eric Cantor, who got whupped because his politix are like Kevin McCarthy's...
(R-Calif.) promised Tuesday morning that he will lead Republicans in voting to hold Wray in contempt if he refuses to provide the informant file, which McCarthy said could be redacted to protect highly sensitive informant information.

#19  stalling until the statute of limitations runs out

No legitimate court (I know) would consider that sound legal tactic.

#18  /\ Cynicism or realism?

I'm going with realism brought on by decades of failed expectations.

#17  Wray has now said he will "allow" some members of Congress to view the document. Not enough. , as a U.S. citizen have a vested interest in seeing what is in it. It seems to me the FBI is stalling until the statute of limitations runs out.

#15  ^Is that why there are so many cynics here?

I already hold Wray in contempt.

#13  Cut one percent across the board every year until the National Debt is zero. Institute a flat tax.

When there's an "emergency" like, uh, COVID *cough cough*, take the hit instead of trying to spend our way out of it.

#12  #9 Notice how that's not even a minor point of contention? Doing so wouldn't just be a political death sentence but an actionable one.

#11  ^ It can't come up for a vote because it would put too many RINOs in the house on record.

#10  How is the effort going by Rep MTG to file the articles of impeachment against Wray? When can we expect the House to take this up and have a vote and then send it over to the Senate for trial? Although, this will likely go no where, there is some value to this impeachment. It would expose the widespread corruption in the Administrative State and the weaponizing of government against its people.

#6  It appears that Deep State finds Congress and the Constitution in contempt. The fix is in. You think they'd be doing this if they knew they may lose power in 2024.

#5  At the end of the proceedings the Sgt at arms will ceremonially ring his doorbell and run away.

Radicals had called for sterner measures but cooler heads prevailed and this time the flaming bag of dog excrement will not be used.
