On Tuesday, unknown gunmen shot to death two members of Iranian-backed militias in a city east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria. “Unknown gunmen, who were riding a motorbike, opened fire on a military vehicle of the IRGC in the vicinity of the city of Abu Kamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border, which resulted in the killing of two members,” a military source of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told North Press. The source, who preferred not to be named for security reasons, said that the two members were Iraqis and they were heading to a bakery to bring bread for the other members.
The Iranian-backed militias control vast areas of the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and Syria’s Badia. The Syrian Badia region is a source of concern for the Iranian-backed militias and the government forces, where ISIS sleeper cells launch operations that inflict heavy losses on the forces and militias, despite the intensive security campaigns to comb the Badia.
