[REGNUM] The leadership of the Russian Federation must make it clear that it will respond harshly to any pressure. This was announced on February 7 to a REGNUM correspondent by a leading expert of the MGIMO Center for Military-Political Research, Doctor of Political Sciences Mikhail Alexandrov .
"Macron's visit to Russia takes place in the context of the general line of the West to put pressure on the Russian leadership in connection with the situation around Ukraine," the expert said.
Similar goals will be pursued by the visit of the German Chancellor and the British Foreign Secretary. At the same time, Macron will try, through empty promises on the Ukrainian issue, to obtain specific obligations from Russia to curtail the activity of Russian PMCs in the former French colonies in Africa, the expert is sure.
The line of Russia in negotiations with Macron should consist in the well-known formula: "Money in the morning, chairs in the evening," the political scientist believes. Moscow should not assume any obligations towards France until the latter takes real steps to force Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements.
"Macron’s threats to impose some kind of additional sanctions against Russia should be defiantly ignored. He needs to be made clear that Moscow’s response actions will be much more painful for France (or the EU as a whole), since they will not be limited to the economic sphere and will move into the political and military-political area,” concluded Aleksandrov.
