California Sheriffs Are Openly Protesting Their New 'Sanctuary State'
2017-10-10
[Hot Air] Back when California Governor Jerry Brown was still pondering the new sanctuary state legislation which was heading for his desk, we talked about the fact that the police unions had backed a version of the bill, but the state’s sheriffs were not onboard. Now that the measure has been signed into law, those same sheriffs are basically in open revolt, publicly protesting the changes and asking the United States Congress to step in. They justify this decision by declaring that the state’s citizens will be less safe because of these changes.

#8  Sheriffs are elected in CA Counties. In only a few Counties would this anti-Sanctuary stance lose them votes. They get it

#7  The Sheriffs are in a dilemma. Obey Federal Law or obey the wink-wink-nudge-nudge of the Democratic local regime. If the Feds arrest them the Pols will Protest briefly and then discard them like a used rubber -- and the Sheriffs know this.

#6  The Sheriff's could arrest, try, and force the guilty ones to serve time (before) sending them back to Mexico (at which point a bill for the jail time should be sent to Mexico).

The innocent ones could be driven to Sacramento once the trials are complete.

#5  One can only hope that Moonbeam's sanctuary law gets declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court so that we have a peaceful resolution to this issue. It'd be even better if Brown ignores the Supreme Court ruling and ends up in prison himself.

#4  At this point arrest those that refuse to follow federal law for aiding and abetting. Lots of politicians removed and a ton of swamp drained.

#3  You are correct that Congress will set idle and watch Rome burn down around them while Trump plays the fiddle...

Maybe a few AUSA's will step up when the State make political prisoners of duly elected Sheriff's actually trying to enforce the law and protect their citizens. The AG has to file against this mess and get it ruled as unconstitutional. A major crisis is looming.

#2  Congress has to step in and re-establish the rule of law. California is in open revolt and has lost its mind.

Precisely. Not like it's going to happen, though.

#1  The Sheriffs will support the Federal laws...and a crisis will ensue shortly thereafter when the liberal hack Judges hold the Sheriff's in contempt of State law for supporting the Federal law.

Congress has to step in and re-establish the rule of law. California is in open revolt and has lost its mind.
