Pressure Cooker Bomb Scare At Everett Gas Station
2013-09-12
[CBS] EVERETT, Wash. - Police believe whoever left a pressure cooker at an Everett gas station Wednesday intended to instill fear on 9-11 with a replica of a Boston Marathon bomb.

Police say someone drove up to a gas pump at a Fred Meyer store on the Bothell-Everett Highway about 5:45 a.m. and placed the pressure cooker on the ground before driving away. An employee called 911.
That there weren't more reports of this kind of thing is interesting, since creating a fake bomb of this sort would be so easy.

#10  there's lots of ewetoobs about turning a pressure cooker into a still for making shine. involves replacing the pressure relief valve with a tube fitting for screwing the copper condenser to it. don't like that idea, especially in the house, could go boom if not watched regular-like. (and then all that mash would be wasted)

#9  We use the same here too, Barbara. We can make a pretty fair sized batch in it, too.

#8  I've got a pressure cooker. It's great for making terrorist fudge.

(Yep, fudge. Recipes tell you to use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to cook it, and a pressure cooker is about as heavy-bottomed as pans come. And no, you don't use the top when making fudge.)

#7  My mom has a big-ass pressure cooker hidden away in the fruit cellar. Sure, she's an old lady, but Sudden Jihad Syndrome can strike anywhere at anytime. No telling what's in those big sacks labeled 'Peat Moss' in the garage.

#6  I once left a George Foreman grill in the back of a horse hauler, is there a statue of limitations? If so is it marbled?

#5  But a gas station - in Everett?

Disgruntled former employee/lover.

Or someone dropping off a pot roast.

#3  These gas stations are self-serve so there is very probably a camera positions to catch the license plate of people who try to steal gas, or forget to pay (or drop of pressure cookers).

OTOH - most gas pumps now require you to pre-pay.

Once I entirely forgot to pay and, by the time I got home (about a half hour later) I was notified (by the state patrol) that I hadn't paid. Had to quickly go and pay it off. Whew!

#2  Curious place to leave it if the intention was a bomb scare.

I mean a marathon covered internationally, or massive buildings, maybe. But a gas station - in Everett?

More likely someone forgot to pickup their pressure cooker.

#1  We had a possible. Unclear if it was 9/11 related.
