President Ali Abdullah Saleh has returned to the country three months after surviving an assassination attempt, according to Yemeni state television. He went to Saudi Arabia in June for treatment after a bomb attack on the grounds of the presidential palace.Saleh, who's held power for more than 30 years, has refused calls for his resignation. Clashes have continued in the capital, Sanaa, between government troops and opposition forces. More than 80 people, the majority unarmed protesters, have died since Sunday.
Hopes are fading of a lasting ceasefire between the sides. On Tuesday, the government agreed to a truce after negotiations with Western envoys. But the ceasefire broke down hours later and at least three people were reportedly killed by sniper fire and shelling on Wednesday.
