Saoodi F-15 crashes in desert
2006-11-02
RIYADH - A US-made F-15 fighter plane crashed on Wednesday during a training session in an eastern region of Saudi Arabia but the pilot survived, the defence ministry said. The fighter jet fell in a training zone some 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of the King Abdul Aziz airbase, a ministry official said, as quoted by the SPA state news agency.

The pilot survived the crash, which occurred in the desert, the unnamed official said. A committee has been formed to establish the cause of the crash.

#7  So, if an F-15 (Soodi-style) crashes in the desert, and no one's around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

If you listen real carefully, you will hear something that sounds an awful lot like "Oh $hit!" followed by a popping noise! :-)

#6  A true, slightly OT story re: ejection seats: while stationed @ Pax river doing work with a ME country's F-18, part of the contract required we R7R the seat for a new one. Seemed one of our test Pilots was a (shudder) woman and no self respecting camel jockey would or could use a seat that had been warmed by the uncovered meat. New seat pan or cushions was not satisfactory, had to be a full up zero time, right from McDonnell Douglas seat.

#5  It wouldn't be the first time, skidmark. Back in the 70's a Saudi F5 pilot forgot how to do something while in the air(put the landing gear down?) so he ejected and destroyed his aircraft. He tried to claim that, as the sky belonged to allen, it wasn't his fault. The King no-likey that story; and the pilot was executed.

#3  A chicken and the egg story?

Did the pilot eject because the plane was going to crash, or did the plane crash because the pilot punched out?

Experience suggests it was an egg.
