The Israeli army allowed a delegation of 10 senior officers to enter Arafat's compound. After a three-hour meeting with Arafat, Col. Ziyad Habalreah told reporters the Palestinian leader had listened sympathetically to the group's insistence the new commander must come from within. "I can describe the atmosphere of the meeting as positive," Habalreah said, adding that Arafat expressed understanding and promised to consider their concerns. Habalreah added that no date was set for a return meeting and it had been agreed that in the meantime the officers would be under the direct authority of the Palestinian Ministry of the Interior and not that of Zuheir al-Manasra. That undercuts Manasra and it makes Whatsisname look impotent, which he is. It also underscores the fact that the "security" services are loose cannon |
